NBA Standings: http://www.nba.com/standings/team_record_comparison/conferenceNew_Std_Cnf.html?ls=iref:nba:gnav

There are the elite teams in the west and the ones that aren't quite playoff ready yet. In the middle are three teams with close records. Currently, the Mavericks have the 7th seed but are tied with the Grizzlies (8th seed) at 39-27. Not far behind is the Suns (38-28). Pending any big run by the other teams below them that are still in contention (Minnesota, Denver, New Orleans, Sacramento), two of these teams will make the playoffs with one missing out.

I don't follow the 3 teams very closely, but for those who do, what are your predictions?

Do you see the Warriors (41-26) slipping to a lower seed or (not likely) going on a losing streak and dropping all the way out of contention? I think that would be a shock but I love how the standings are close near the bottom whereas in the west no teams but Indiana and Miami are far ahead of the others.

Personally, I am rooting for the Suns who have surprised me all season but I am happy to see the Mavericks doing better this year. I am surprised that the Grizzlies are still in the mix after the fiasco with Hollins, the Rudy Gay trade, coming up short in the playoffs after beating OKC and the Clippers, and their defense being criticized afterward.

The Suns getting Eric Bledsoe back is big, but it may take some time to adapt to the new rotation. The Suns are certainly a talented, dangerous basketball team, but I still think the smart money is on Dallas and Memphis. those two teams have been there before and they have an edge right now in the standings. I think we'd all probably like to see Phoenix make the postseason, but if I was putting money on it, they're the team I'm picking as the odd man out come playoff time.

Memphis is just so battle tested it is hard to count them out, the Mavs and Suns are a toss up but with Bledsoe back I give an edge to PHX but man it is a tough call.

With Gasol back I really think we will take over the Warriors and Portland .We have the best Defense in the NBA since Gasol's return.

My bias makes me want to vote T-Wolves but they already blew that opportunity. I say Memphis in 7th mavs in 8th.

Eric Bledsoe is a huge addition to an already good team, so I'm going to bet on Phoenix surpassing Dallas and Memphis. He might take time to integrate, but he'll significantly improve Phoenix in the long-term. Maybe Phoenix should keep him coming off the bench for a while.
I'm sure the Suns will survive if they don't make it, landing in this year's draft lottery.

3 games separate the 5th and 9th seeds.
Nobody in the West will know who they are playing in round one likely until the final few days of the season.
