The Los Angeles Lakers are expected to declare Bryant out for the rest of the 2013-14 Lakers season later this week, according to team sources. Bryant is not accompanying the team on its trip to Oklahoma City and San Antonio, staying back to be reexamined by team doctor Steve Lombardo. And considering where Bryantís level of discomfort remains with the fractured lateral tibial plateau in his left knee, barring an unforeseen change, the team will finalize the decision that Bryant will not play again this season.
- Kevin Ding of the Bleacher Report

Why not? He's not 20-something anymore.

If there is ever a guy that deserves a frigging rest it is him. Say what you want and he may be a shell of his former self but the dude has played soooooooo much.

Good, he's never had this much time off. Maybe it will extend/ rejuvenate his last few years. I expect a refreshed, 100%, and very hungry Kobe at the start of camp next season.

No surprise. Glad he get's the rest of the year off and he can use that time to rehab. We aren't making the playoffs anyway and we should be tanking to be in a better position next season.

Matter.

Who would have thought Andrew Wiggins would be paired up with Kobe Bryant in his first season in the NBA.

That would be about the best possible situation for him, learning from the best.

I don't know that he would have effected their draft status but still good move to get healthy and look forward to the future.

true, whatever happens the next two year, he deserves to play the last two years of his career at full strenght, even if he'll not be his old self anymore.

Some nice words from kd:
"Of course. Heís the greatest of all time. His skill is second to none. Him and MJ are neck and neck as far as skill. You can put in athleticism and be the best passer and strongest and quickest. But itís about skill. I think thatís how his game is played. Thatís why Kobe is the top two best ever in just having skill, footwork, shooting the three, shooting the pull up, posting up, dunking on guys and ball handling. Itís flat out skill. Him and Jordan are 1 and 1 a. Theyíre neck and neck as far as the skills are concerned."

"When you look at me, Carmelo (Anthony), LeBron and Paul George, what weíve done out there in this league is nothing compared to what Kobe did," Durant told Medina. "We live in a world of what have you done for me lately. We donít remember the day before sometimes. Think back five, six, years ago what he was doing. Itís unheard of."

Matter.
