Last night against the Cleveland Cavaliers, the San Antonio Spurs had a total of 39 assists out of 43 field goals made. This means approximately 90.7% of their shots were assisted. As someone who pours over box scores, I can't recall a time being this blown away by the ratio of assists to shots made. Is it possible this is an all-time record?

A few weeks ago, the Bobcats did something similar. They had 42 assists on 45 field goals (93%). Both very impressive games.

I'm not embarrassed to admit that I am actually shocked right now. Not only is the Spurs game not a record it's not even the best in the last 30 days... okay maybe I am a little embarrassed. This has to mean there are other games like this out there... 93% just seems so amazingly high to me. Could anyone have an even greater percentage of assists than that?

Haha don't worry about it. I mean, it really couldn't go up much more. I feel like that Bobcats' game has to be the highest.

What I find even more amazing is Manu was the top assister with 6... Talking about spreading the assist wealth.

Classic spurs. That's why they are a threat every year in the playoffs. That ball movement is amazing

My mind is having trouble wrapping my head around 93% assist to fgm ratio but is it really possible that in the entire history of the NBA, two of the best performances not only NOW happened and happened within a month of each other? I feel like there have to be other games over 90% we just don't know where to look.

Agree x100. This is why Pop can limit Duncan/Parker to less minutes than any other star players in the NBA. Because he has produced a system that constantly moves the ball and produces easy looks. Incredible coaching. This is why the Bobcats game annoys me. The most legendary ball movement game in NBA History is coached by Steve Clifford with leading assist man Josh McRoberts? wtf?

Team game finder at BBRef. Input a criteria of <= to 42 assists/points. There may be a couple others if we play around with it a bit more.

I'm shocked the Bobcats did it too. I don't even remember hearing about that. That's impressive though for sure.

I saw on twitter that the Spurs' first basket of the game was unassisted. Then assists on 39 of next 41 field goals. That just sounds crazy

Apparently there was some historics to the game last night. According to Elias, the Spurs were the first team in history to have 13 players all record an assist.

Lakers have done it this season too.

A lot of games where we have around 6-9 unassisted buckets.

but we still suck :p

I love the Spurs because they are great proof (if you still need it) that you don't need one great "true PG" to run everything. Everyone on that team is a willing passer and that makes up for a TON. Manu, their backup 2 guard, lead the team with assists. A team that can pass as a whole >>>>>>>>>>> a team that demands a "true PG" or a "pass-first PG" to do all of that work.

"True pass-first PG" is one of my 3 least favorite NBA-related phrases. The value in that is so overrated.

Wow. And they lost the game and only won 15 games that whole season. Screw using that for an inspirational speech for any bball team that I coach. Spurs it is.
