Career high and Heat franchise record. I think Glen Rice held the record before with 57. But 60 is always a big deal.

Lol i haven't seen one for any player this season, not when melo dropped his huge game, the 50+ games from kd loves ridiculous games. But lbj gets one, he also gets one every time he passes someone for 30th all time in anything, etc.

I agree with you 100%, but there's a lot of season left and Lebron is closing the gap. I still think KD will deservingly win it if he holds to his current level. I may be a minority on here, seems like most guys hate one or the other, but I LOVE watching both Lebron and Durant play! We are blessed to watch them perform at such a high level so often. Great game by Bron.. Question for the OP.. Why would you put MJ in the title??

I have a possibly stupid theory that certain things motivate Lebron. He was totally going for it tonight points wise, and playing a team MJ, his hero, owns might be part of the motivation. No real reason. Just did it!

And I figured there would be hate for starting this thread...as there is pretty much every thread that gets started. I am not a Heat fan, nor do I have a particular bias towards Lebron. I would have made the thread if Durant, Melo, Love, Harden, Curry, Joe Johnson, Gerald Green, JJ Barea, Hasheem Thabeet, Alonzo Gee, or anyone did it. Guys like Nique, Dr. J, Kareem, Hakeem, Drexler, Barkley, and most everyone never dropped 60. Off the top I can think of Melo, Gilbert, AI, David Thompson, Baylor, MJ, Gervin, Wilt (over 30 times!!), Kobe, T-Mac, Shaq, Rick Barry, Pistol Pete, Karl Malone, David Robinson, Bird, and....yeah. Not many more. I thought it deserved a thread. No matter who did it.

Oh that goes without saying. Can't wait to see how KD responds though. Should be interesting. KD lead is team to a better record in a far more difficult conference with his second option being injured for most of the season and with a less talented supporting cast and played better individually overall. Only a complete Lebronite would argue him over KD at this point.

Anyone remember LeBron missed 2 FTs w/ 1:50 left that helped Det force OT? Then AIRBALLED open game-winning jumper w/ 7 secs left in OT!

Right here. On cue.

Kobe - 62 points in only THREE QUARTERS and OUT SCORING AN ENTIRE TEAM with only 31 FGA.

Lebron - 61 points in four quarters (garbage time included) on 33 FGA.

Which is more impressive??? Lol

I would even say that Kobe's 56 point game in three quarters back in 2002 was more impressive. Not only that, Kobe has been above the 60 point plateau five times in his career including his legendary 81 point game. While this was impressive of Lebron tonight and I do give him his props, it just doesn't begin to put him on par with Kobe scoring wise... They are just on two different planets.

Impressive. Almost as impressive as dropping 62, outscoring a entire team, and sitting out the fourth quarter.

Almost.....

Or should I say +81 haha.

So you are actually trying to make the argument that you can actually know what Lebron's motivations are from game to game and that he is making a conscious effort to not go for high scoring totals from game to game??? Is this even possible??? Are you claiming that you are clairvoyant???

So all of the sudden now Lebron decided to show that world that he can score with the best of them in this one game against the Bobcats in this his 11th season. Boy we sure were privileged that he chose this one moment in time now aren't we.

lol completely missing the point... lebron is way more efficient that kobe ever was... go look up how many times lebron has shot 33 or more times in a game... then go look up how many times kobe has done that and you will find your answer to your question

lol.. hes also missing one point.. including all of 'kobes superior scoring ability' and including lebrons ROOKIE season, lebron has scored more point on less than 600+ field goal attempts from 2003 till now..

this includes kobes prime btw, his 81 point game, etc etc

a handful of 50+ games doesnt mean much when you have a handful of bricking games.

'kobe is in another level of scoring' HA!
there goes that logic out the window

I don't hate Lebron, but come on Lebron doesn't deserve the MVP this year. KD is having a great year. It will be like when Kobe didnt win it when he should have(dropping 40's and 50's every night with a mediocre team), but then they decided to give it to him when he shouldnt have haha. The only thing I kinda dislike when it comes to lebron is that hes not as competitive or doesnt have the work ethic as jordan or kobe(heat fans go ahead and hate), because sky is the limit for him, but his window to reach his full potential is slowly closing. Good performance though.

Nobody hates on Kobe's work ethic, but to say Lebron's is worse is ignorant (and that's about as nice as I can put it).

I mean it's not like he's dramatically improved his outside shot and developed a great post game in the last few years. (that's sarcasm by the way I can tell you're not very bright so I thought I'd help you out).

people picking KD for MVP when the season isn't even over. That's how much people hate Lebron when Lebron hasn't even started playing his best yet -which is kinda scary because he was putting up already great stats and KD was MARGINALLY beating him - NOW, Lebron is finally showing up since the all-star game and now playing some serious ball. its a 2 man race now.

I don't get this argument of the Heat in a weaker conference when the Heat are 17-4, i.e. .810, against the West LOL. They have a 'worse' record against the East for crying out loud at 26-10, i.e. .722.

BTW. Heat have a better record than OKC comparing % points and have played 3 games less than OKC and 2 less games than the Pacers.

"But but but its not about team record but rather how that individual plays against the conference I'm sure LeBron gets fat against the East while struggling against the West"

That "theory" would also be wrong.

vs East: 26.9 ppg (even after scoring 61 last night), 6.9 rpg and 6.5 apg on a TS% of 65.1%
vs West: 28.4 ppg, 7.6 rpg and 6.2 apg on a TS% of 68.2%

Oh and to anyone saying a single season sample size is way too small for his entire career (298 games against the West) LeBron has played better against the Western Conference teams than the Eastern Conference.

How does Lebron NOT deserve it? Maybe better wording would be at the moment KD is ahead in the race. But to say Lebron doesn't deserve it is nonsense. He has been great. Also how do you know Lebrons work ethic? Dude has been getting better year after year. Does he so this by being lazy and sitting on the couch? Or by putting in the work?

I feel people just hate Lebron so much they now are going to be looking at things he did when he was like 5 " oh look, Lebron use to have a GI joe lunch pale and not a ninja turtle one. He clearly doesn't deserve to love". Some of you guys are crazy.

His season is good enough to win the award most any other year, at least most every year post-Jordan. If that's your point, then yeah (and I think that's your point). But KD deserves it more, still. There's only one MVP, and right now that's still KD.

As for"putting in work"...if he was putting in more work on the defensive end then he'd be more deserving. But it's hard to suggest he even has that gap over KD this year. Bron is still easily the best player in the league, but KD is still having a better season, and since he also has a better story, the MVP is still his.

I just read somewhere that Lebron doesnt work as hard as he could or at least takes it easy during games sometimes. Yea Phil shouldve let him play and see how many he gets. I mean if he had 50, ok I will bench him. But he had 61 for freak sake, he couldve made history. If Lebron ever does that, I hope the coach doesnt decide to become douche about it and let him play. Its not padding stats, its chasing history. it's pretty interesting, and I think mostly coincidence, that Melo and LBJ did this against Charlotte. they've been a damned good defense this year, and while I don't think "MKG" and "Pippen need never to be in the same sentence ever again, he is a good defender for sure.

I still think KD is the front runner right now by quite a bit. LBJ is going to have to distance himself if he wants to win it. He's won too many already. Voters will shy from giving it to him (just like they did with Jordan) unless he puts up a truly "best in the NBA" season. If it's in any way close it goes to Durant IMO.

well last season playing against the Rox twice, bron scored 38 and 31.
wade scored 19 and 31.

depends on which version of wade shows up tbh.
i honestly expect bron to score 25-30. if its more, id be surprised. pleasantly of course lol

I think this thing with KD has brought something out in Lebron. It has made him turn up his scoring aggression. IMO his scoring aggression is the only thing stopping him from being the greatest scorer of all time too. I'm very glad to see this and I think it is a trend that will continue. Lebron has always been a make the right play guy. I think he will shift towards being a get buckets guy. Not to the Kobe, AI extent, but enough to where he can sniff 40 every game.

Looking at Lebron...you would think he is completely unstoppable with that body, athletic ability, and skill. As a big fan of Lebron, I am never surprised by anything great that he does, because, looking at him, he should be able to do that. I feel like Lebron is waking up a bit, as far a realization of what he can and can't do.

I think he plays not to loose many times instead of to win. This happens do to the enormous pressure that is on him to be the best. And he has been on top so he just tries not to mess up because he is so good, that playing not to mess up is better than anyone else playing to explode on teams.

Until this year that is. KD is so good that when he plays to explode on teams, it surpasses Lebron playing not to mess up. KD in a way forced Lebron's hand to extend himself and go off. I think Lebron is showing himself that he is unstoppable enough to be more aggressive and put up bigger scoring numbers since that is what he needs to beat out KD.

All this being said, I expect Lebron to keep his current trend of play and this could be the year where he does move past Jordan by doing something so crazy, like averaging 37/7/7 on 68% from the field for the rest of the year. Maybe he ends the year shooting a TS over 70% with that kind of production and truly going to a level of efficiency and production that none but him has ever, or ever could achieve.

He's allowed to travel very consistently, at least 3 steps on every lay up and dunk, usually 4.

Well I'm not here to debate. But I disagree and do think the voting will be close regardless of who actually wins it.

What about Kobe's 62?

Edit: BTW for all you calling out Kobe dick riders its the same people who dick ride Lebron so... yeah

Whatever. You can ride whoever you want as long as it's in the appropriate thread lol. Going into a LBJ thread to try to diminish his game by bringing up Kobe games is ridiculous. And vice versa. If Kobe came back tonight, and score 40 points there'd be a thread for that with a bunch people slobbing all over him, and there's nothing wrong with that. And anyone going into the thread and putting up LBJ stats from 10 years ago would be ridiculous and dumb as well.

It's pretty silly to compare Kobe to Lebron in the first place.

Kobe's best season was what, 05-06?

Lebron has what, 5 seasons better than that?

If you'd like I can have that debate coming from the few crazy people on this forum lol. I've had it too many times.

@RealSkipBayless: I appreciated LeBron's 61 little more than Kobe's 81 b/c vs 5th-ranked D while Kobe's vs 29th-ranked Toronto and 28 in 4th-q garbage time

Ill just leave this hear for everyone and this is coming from the biggest LeBron hater of them all

Idc how good or bad the defense this, no one besides Wilt has scored more than 81. Theres bad defenses every year and you dont see people dropping 80 pts. And it wasnt "garbage time," it was a close fight so kobe stayed and kept making shots. At the end of the day he still had to make his shots and execute. What Wilt did was way worse. The amount of hate and kobe and lebron get insane but thats probably bcuz their fans are freaking annoying.

Ya, I feel the same way. Lebron is more of a Magic (not as magical) than a Kobe or Michael. That guys argument was completely flawed and he can't even see it. Lol It's pretty comical honestly. He is acting like he knows for a FACT what Lebron is actually thinking in terms of scoring a lot of points. It's just plain foolish and completely illogical. Myself and the people in my circle truly feel that Lebron is waaaay overhyped and overrated. Yes, Lebron is great and all, but that doesn't mean that he can't be overrated. When people compare him to Jordan... That IMO is overrating him. When people claim him to be in the top ten of all time pre-maturely, thats overrating him. We are just sick of ESPN and other media outlets making their agenda's too outlandish. Again, I am just speaking for the people I know in LA and even non Laker fans. Most of these people feel Lebron to be overrated. They respect his game and think he is an all-time great for sure. They just feel he is being crowned to early and pre-maturely. Sure he has a chance to pass guys like Kobe, Magic, and Bird, but he hasn't yet, so lets respect those guys and not act like Lebron has five rings going on six when he only has two and needed addition help that those guys never had. I would like to see Lebron go back to Cleveland and win a ring before we move him past Kobe, Magic, and Bird or even begin to debate his greatness next to theirs. Jordan has much better career numbers and accomplishments. I don't really see any reason to mention Lebron in the same sentence at all. I don't want to sound negative, but I can comfortably say that Lebron will never come close to Jordan in terms of greatness. Jordan never lost in the finals and he never needed 7 games to win. Compare their playoff and finals numbers then come tell me that their numbers are similar... Lol. Jordan won a scoring title, MVP, All-Star MVP, Gold Medal, Ring, DPOY and Finals MVP in the same season all with having better statistical number than Lebron in the regular season, playoffs, and finals. Lebron is not on his level offensively, defensively, clutch factor, or winning factor. Please, lets stop with the MJ comparisons guys. Please.

as I noted, the comparisons are mostly because of the statistics with Jordan. I don't think he ever catches him.

The others, well, he already passed Bird for me, and Kobe is a toss up (I can live with either way). But to pass a handful of other guys, he needs to continue on his current path.

I guess it frustrates you that it's most likely inevitable that he lands in the top 5, but some are already making that claim. I get that. But most of us (I guess I can only speak for myself), simply are saying, "Nothing is stopping him from passing those guys unless he gets hurt". I think we can both agree to that.

boy, if you think Lebron is overrated. you should think of what people think about Kobe when you bring that name into a Lebron thread. I don't think you want to dig deeper into the numbers to find that Kobe is as overrated as they come but yet you come in here to talk about
1) Kobe
2) Jordan

The fact that you have to bring this up means the conversation is already taking place. I don't think (from reading this thread) anyone brought up any comparisons to Jordan or Kobe until your best friend:

This is too comical. OK people. Respect greatness. That goes for both sides of the spectrum here. Clearly Lebron is a great player and will go down as one of the all-timers. Lets not act as if he is not. At the same time, lets allow him to work on his post-season resume before we put him up there with the Magics, and the Kobe's and the MJs and the Birds. That is where Lebron is trying to go, while those that were just mentioned are already there. Lets let Lebron win and boost that resume before we put him on that pedestal. At the same time, lets all acknowledge that we are watching greatness here and enjoy Lebron create his own legacy. Has he reached that other level yet that those before him have been able to achieve? No. But he is clearly on the right path. Lets see how the next few seasons pan out before we make extreme silly arguments at either side of the spectrum.

Good performance though.

yeah kd should be mvp, if bron gets it, it would be kinda like when they snubbed chris paul in 2008.

Exactly on earth are you talking about? You must not know your NBA history very well. Prior this year the last time we saw someone go off for 60 was 5 years ago. That 5 years was the biggest gap (in terms of time) between 60 point outings since DRob went off for 71 in 94 and Shaq scored 61 some 6 years later. 60 points is going off in ANY era.

Westbrook got a triple double in 20 mins, now thats more impressive, but of course ESPN doesn't care.

When you're playing against my 76ers you can get a triple double in a quarter and 50 in a half.

If you think what Westy did tonight is more impressive than what Bron did last night or Melo did the other day or what Kobe did numerous times you clearly don't know basketball, but you don't. You're only salty because its Bron, had it been Kobe going off you'd be all over this thread stating why he's the best player in the world still

haha i'm not even a kobe fan idiot. Doesnt mean i dont bow down to your king, it doesnt mean i'm a kobe fan. And just to based on lebron fan girls statements that going off for 61 points on any NBA team is impressive, then getting a triple double against any team(and to do it in 20 mins) is impressive but ok go back and watch espn again since they tell u everything u want to hear about Lebron haha

kobe scored 61, 62, 65 and 81 so idk why you guys are dick riding him all day for a 61 point game haha maybe back then where the refs don't call stupid fouls, it would've been impressive. Besides like you all Lebron fan girls said, he can do this every night right?

aw c'mon man, why hate on lebron. He is a great player, and he put on a show the other night. I'm just as impressed by kobe's 61, 62, and 65, and obviously much more impressed by his 81. Man, that was just something else. Kobe's offensive game was just on another level.

Anyway, point being, you gotta give respect when someone earns it. And last night, lebron earned it.

Tonight, different story, he didn't want to score 60. He's very humble, he only decides to go for 60+ every once in a while, a testament to what a team player he is lol

Haha I don't even hate Lebron, I just think people are overreacting to him scoring 61 points.

Yeah, you just derail threads giving him credit. Don't mention that it is what people do for all stars, yet you seem to have a problem just with Lebron (when melo broke 60, those huge games by kobe etc. it was always a big deal).

Please.

The thing is Amosier is that you're totally full of ****, and anyone that has read your posts over the last 3 years know that in reality you hate LBJ, and you want to do anything to discredit him. It doesn't come from any place of knowledge like you claim. You've done it for years now.

Last year you told me that the only way the Heat beat the Spurs is because the NBA will make the refs let the Heat win. THIS WAS BEFORE EVEN A GAME WAS PLAYED.

Then before that it was how LBJ would never win another ring.

Then before that it was Lebron isn't even in your current top 5 and is overrated.

You have a vendetta against him. Try to hide it all you want, but that's your obsession.

Then what happened to you posting how Kobe is the most popular player, and the NBA is suffering from LBJ? Lol.

The thing is you can pretend to be an unbiased fan that is just making observations, but like I said no one is buying it. People that have been on this site and watched you post for years know.

Then not to mention a bunch of you telling us at the beginning of the year that Chris Kaman was an upgrade from Dwight Howard.

It's very obvious. Anyone that threatens Kobe's legacy gets knocked down by you guys, and you don't stop. It becomes your goal to discredit everything that threatens Kobe's legacy. It's just sad.

You've been calling LBJ overrated for about 3 years now. How many rings/MVP's does he need to win to not be overrated anymore?

I mean even right now. You're in this thread. Talking about Kobe in a LBJ thread. For no reason. You dislike LBJ, and think his overrated, and love Kobe and think he's top 5 all time... It's fine. We get it. Now move on. You're not convincing anymore people to join your clan. If you can't enjoy watching LBJ play that's too bad, because it is pretty damn enjoyable to watch.
