I think it's the Mavs but it could just as easily be the Grizz. I haven't looked at their schedules, whoever has the easiest schedule will probably be the 8th seed.

Not impossible for Phoenix and Dubs to drop down either. West is tough. To solidify yourself as a playoff team you need to be playing .600 ball or better, forget .500 if you can't play better than .500 ball go out East.

This.

I also find it comical looking back a week or so ago that some were saying the Suns were going to catch the Blazers and surpass them in the standings. Suns put up a hell of a fight all season, but Memphis with Gasol healthy is a clearly superior team than the Suns without Bledsoe.

I think the Warriors manage to hang on and get the 6th seed. Mavs get the 7th seed and Pheonix falls out and Memphis gets the 8th seed.

Memphis has been straight balling since Gasol got back. Had he been healthy all year, they definitely make the playoffs (though Suns' fans can likely make the same claim about Bledsoe).

Won't matter.

Suns have a .8 point differential and the difference in schedule is marginal. I'd say the Mavericks having a lesser winning percentage right now is a bigger difference than said schedule.

But Memphis isn't getting in either way. Mavs and Suns will both be in.

Bledsoe is returning shortly and Dallas has been consistent all year. As long as the warriors stay healthy then its hard to see the Grizzlies making it as an 8th seed

Yea but point differential ignores Gasol's absence and this late in the season, you really going to ignore remaining sos?

Mavs could drop out, though they always seem to exceed their pythagorean record from what I remember, Cuban is a big believer in clutch ability.

Suns get Bledsoe back in a week. So add 18 pts, 6 assists and 4 rebounds on 48% shooting and great defense to the current Suns team.

Dallas is 1-5 in 2014 against teams that are above .500.

That's funny cause both Dragic and Bledsoe were BALLING while playing together before Bledsoe got hurt.

Dallas won't get in over the Suns. Suns are #7 right now and Dallas is #8. This race will come down to Dallas or Memphis, not PHX or Memphis.

That depends on if you have faith in the clutchness of Dirk or the youth and efficiency of the Suns. Memphis could very well pass both teams up IMO. They've been playing really good since Gasol came back. If the current trends hold up, I see

SAS/OKC in the top 2

LAC/Houston in the Top4

GS/Portland in the Top6

And Memphis/Dallas/Phoenix in the top 8, I really hope Phoenix gets in, because I think they are more of a regular season team than a playoff team like battle tested Memphis is.

Well yea considering that Memphis has history of spanking the Clippers even in their sleep, I'd want the Suns over the Grizzlies too as a Suns fan. If Clippers have to play Memphis in the playoffs again, LAC would lose in 5 or less imo.

But the Suns have also destroyed the Clippers in LA this season so idk maybe you should be careful what you wish for. Griffin historically hasn't played that great against Channing Frye compared to what he does against other players.

And as of right now though, the Suns are struggling. Even in their wins, they have looked really bad defensively by struggling to beat some really bad teams. A lot is riding on Bledsoe coming back and providing some major energy to this squad.

Getting Gasol would have made the Suns defense even worse. Offense isn't the Suns problem, we can score as well as any team in the NBA right now but defending is a whole another story.

Phoenix Suns has made an amazing season and I would like them playing in playoffs. I heard that they played the worst tanking in the NBA story and that's true. Its players aren't very good and they have suffered a setback with Blesoe injury.

I suppose they will miss playoffs position because there are better teams in the west fighting for this spot, such as Memphis and Minesotta, but with people like Hornacek and Dragic everything is possible. Besides, Wolves are five game behind them so Grizzlies are the only team which could really overpass them, since there are only 20-22 games to the end of regular season.

Memphis Grizzlies have proven they are able to perform at high level in playoffs, and there is no doubt about its performance at the end of the season. I am sure they are going to win about 15 games from now on, and it will mean that 7-8th spot is possible.

Dallas Mavs have better team than Phoenix too, and have a similar record in the league table, so that if old players remain healthy, there is no doubt the will reach playoffs spots too. The same thing could be said about Warriors. I even expected them above in the West after the last season, but Iguodala hasn't provided what they needed so far. Even so, they will keep its currently position in the board.

It would be a pity if Phoenix doesn't reach playoffs spots, because this is a nice story about a team who has performed over this true level and has played this game loyally. They should have signed a good player before deadline but they didn't so I guess they'll regret it in a logical scenario.

Why would i reconsider anything on the basis of such a small sample? Particularly given my feelings about the other teams?

And If by history of spanking us you mean losing one year and winning the next, then sure, even though that sounds asinine. Not sure where you get your lost in 5 projection given the history and current level of play but nothing you've said seems to have any logical backing so at least you're consistent. Needless to say, i like their chances against any of those lower tier teams. Regular season matchups don't sway me more than efficiency of play

I just feel the suns youth and inexperience will help them. They are also playing with house money, people pegged them as a top 5 pick team as the season began. Dragic is a problem for opposing teams, and he's a lefty. Bledsoe should be back and of course a team that shoots threes at a high clip always has a chance.

Dallas on the other hand, has playoff experience but is a older team. Against a probable matchup of okc, SA, or lac, the defense may be too slow. Dallas cannot score with teams like that while phx may have enough offensive output

The Mavs get a special benefit of the doubt from me, not that I see them advancing beyond R.1 but I can see them putting up more of a fight than an entirely new team that hasn't gone through the battles. Somewhat hypocritical of me but thats the aura of a champion, Dirk gets his teams to overachieve, period. Thats the true mark of an All-Timer IMO, he wont win anything this year but hes still moving up my rankings with how he has led Dallas this year, longevity FTW.

Memphis is more talented now that they are healthy and upgraded on the perimeter, a nightmare for any team.

Phoenix took a great leap, but I see them letting down and not playing up to their previous norm.

This doesn't make any sense
Dallas is 4th in ORtg (111.0), 5th in 3pt% (37.8%), and 10th in attempts (22.3 per game)
Phoenix is 8th in ORtg (109.6), 8th in 3pt% (37.6%), and 6th in attempts (24.9 per game)

Dallas is a top 5 offense in the NBA, whereas the Suns are not. Literally makes no sense.

I trust the mavs to beat anyone in the playoffs just not the Spurs. Not even trying to talk mess, but that's just how bad mavs match up against the spurs.

The Mavs are 2-3 in the Dirk era against the Spurs. (playoffs)

Wins came in 05-06 and 08-09

Losses came in 01-02, 02-03, and 09-10

In 09-10, the Mavs has a 3-1 edge on the Spurs in the regular season and lost to the Spurs in the playoffs as a #2 seed (Spurs were #7 seed).

In 05-06 the Spurs lost to the Mavs in the WCF as the #1 seed (Mavs were #4 seed). In 08-09, the Mavs beat the Spurs as a #6 seed (Spurs were #3 seed; first round).

Seeding means nothing and nobody has anyone's number really.

I think Memphis makes it. No disrespect to Suns and T'Wolves fans.

1. OKC
2. SAS
3. LAC
4. HOU
5. POR
6.GS
7. DAL
8. MEM

OKC vs MEM (OKC in 5)
SAS vs. DAL (SAS in 7)
LAC vs. GS (LAC in 7)
HOU vs. POR (HOU in 6)

OKC vs. HOU (OKC in 6)
SAS vs. LAC (LAC in 6)

OKC vs LAC (OKC in 7)

The west match ups are gonna be so good, I think atleast one lower seed is going to take one of the top 4 out this year- and I wouldnt count on any first round match up being less than 6 games

Mavs will make a big run & win 6 of the next 7 games. (GS, UTA, OKC, BOS, MIN, DEN, BKN)

LOL well its good they got that one loss out of the way first.... and a 23 point blow out at that LOL

If I had to bet on anyone pulling off an upset in the 1st round, it's Memphis. Those guys are just a handful in the play offs.

Sure, GSW and Portland can shoot lights out and Dallas has experience, but when it comes to play off upsets, I'll go with Gasol and Zbo.

Size isn't streaky.

While true, it doesn't mean much for this season. SA probably is not the best matchup for Dallas. It would be competitive and physical cause it always is. But the Mavs defense would not be able to slow them down enough

If Houston and Golden State match up, it could be a great series. I think its basically 50/50.

I have a feeling the NBA wants the warriors and clippers- both teams hate each other and there could be some ejections on both sides.

The Suns are probably done now. The top 8 looks set.

**** man, another first round matchup with you guys would be a waste. Hope we meet later on, hope you guys can pull the upset vs a San Antonio/OKC or something.

I had a feeling you guys would do better than just the 8th seed, but passing up GS is a tall task.

Our series are fun and all but its a battle and who ever wins is gonna come out injured. Spurs twice okc twice clipps twice all in the past 3 years.I want Houston this year just to face someone new.

17 games left to move up 3 1/2 games on the Blazers. Possible, but improbable.

Wouldn't rule it out. Portland is looking awful shaky lately, and Memphis is coming on strong.

I think the season is catching up with Lillard and Co. You can only go so long in an 82 game season without a bench...
