View Full Version : Nets Plan On Targeting Kevin Durant In 2016

The Brooklyn Nets could have zero salary commitments entering the 2016 offseason depending on whether Deron Williams picks up his one-year option and currently plan on targeting Kevin Durant.

Durant plays in one of the NBA's smallest markets with the Oklahoma City Thunder and ownership has appeared unwilling to spend as much money as other title contenders.

An Eastern Conference executive told Bondy he believes Durant will leave the Thunder in 2016, but that it will be difficult for him to find a teammate as elite as Russell Westbrook.

This reminds me of the Knicks hoping for LeBron and preparing to lure him there years before he even became a FA.

Similar to the Knicks, I think the Nets are gonna end up overpaying for some other player instead and lose out on Durant. I can't even see Durant leaving Ibaka, Westbrook, Sefolosha and developing players like Reggie Jackson and Jeremy Lamb for some place else.

This isn't like Cleveland where they put a bunch of crap around LeBron. Durant has some very nice players who compliment him and his game extremely well around him in OKC.

I think everyone in the NBA should be targeting KD..

Nets could try to use thier old connect with Jay-Z to lure him to BK, but ultimately I see KD becoming a Laker when he hits FA.....

Gonna be tricky for the Nets to pull that off.

Doubt he leaves and even if he does, he would most likely leave for the Rockets and go back home.

However if he leaves and wants to choose another team...

Lakers will have Love and one of the top 5 picks from the 2014 draft so by 2016 the same year when Kobe's contract is done, I would love to see what the Nets would be able to counter that. Especially if Kobe continues to play and signs for cheep.

...well...just my own bias as a Lakers fan XD.

"Kevin, listen, I know you're the #1 guy on a perennial contender with elite guys at pretty much every position, but have you stopped to think how great it would be if you combined with a 30-something PG who left his prime years ago and an injury prone center who doesn't rebound and then we'll go from there? We'll have like 5 million left in cap room, plus an exception for a few million, it's gonna be great. Seriously great. You should think about it."

Why would he go to the Nets? They have never shown the know how to win, or build a team for that matter. This years team being a prime example.

He dosnt leave. And if he does, it will be to a team that's going for a championship. I don't see Brooklyn near the title race anytime soon. It will be between LA, OKC and Houston (in my fantasies).

Its debatable. Ever since they drafted all those guys they have kind of messed up. They kept Perkins and traded Hardon for pennies on the dollar. they have shown they will not go over the cap to tilt the balance of power in their favor. Even though the owner is one of the richest in the NBA. If they don't win and the owner continues to not spend, he may look for another team that's willing to go over the cap.

This made me LOL HARD! The Nets want everyone but they will be the Bucks without draft picks by 2016.

lol, please

That would be nice, if this happens, the warriors will own OKC for a long time.

The great organization part is debatable. The same organization that traded Jeff Green for Porkins and then decide to keep him over paying James Harden and trading him away for almost nothing.

The rest I agree with though.

It's interesting because Westbrook's contract expires the following summer in 2017. As a result, I can't see him leaving an elite player in Westbrook high and dry like that unless one of two things happens:
1. He and Westbrook who appear to be good friends have a falling out
2. Westbrook's knee injuries become a recurring problem

About 5 years ago the nets wanted Lebron.

How' that work out?

About 4 year ago, they wanted Howard

How'd that work out?

About 3 years ago, they wanted Melo

How'd that work out?

Net's are a joke.

Pretty sure it was LeBron then Melo then Dwight, and it really wasn't that long ago - only 3.5 since the decision and 1.5 since Dwight moved. 5 years ago the Nets had Devin Harris and Vince Carter each scoring 20ppg and were fighting for the playoffs.

Not sure that's even possible. Harden + Howard would take up like 40 mill of the cap, and they haven't even signed Parsons yet.

I see him going to the Rockets in a dual S&T deal surrounding Parsons from HOU's side.

Problem is the Rox need to make a decision on Parsons a year before KD becomes a FA.

That's like waiting for an asteroid to hit earth one day and annihilate life as we know it. It's a complete unknown and amounts to nothing more than mere speculation.

KD has too much class for the Nets. They need flashy players who want to sell an image.

with Proky being the boss, the Nets have every opportunity to grab marque players. If the FO is a bit wiser, a Nets dynasty will be established sooner or later. I hope he gets success for at least once before he loses all the hope and go bankrupt

The Nets Plan on Targetting Kevin Durant...

Me "Great idea..." Then I laughed for 10 minutes.

#1.) Any team with FA space will be doing the same thing.
#2.) Why would he leave OKC when they are consistently an elite team with other young stud talent around him?
#3.) 2016

When KD wins a title this yr, there's no question he stays in OKC 4 life.

If anything, it's a guy like Russell Westbrook and whether or not he stays in OKC long term. After a while, he's going to want the chance to run his own team and be the #1 option and not always be in KD's shadow.
