“We did talk to Rondo about extending him,” Ainge admitted. “But that’s all part of the negotiation that will happen again this summer and most likely the summer after. I don’t know if he will sign an extension, time will tell.”

“In the Collective Bargaining Agreement, there are limits on what can and can’t be done. Really it’s not that Rondo doesn’t want to accept an extension, but it’s just not financially smart for him to accept it right now,” said Ainge. “We didn’t think he would sign, but we did try.”

Yup, and it's the same guy who made the Malcom Thomas thread.

Yup, and it's the same guy who made the Malcom Thomas thread.

What does a thread having to do w/ a PF that had 9 rebs in his first start w/ a team, have to do w/ a thread of a player who turn down a contract extension, who is also in trade talks?

It's disengenous. Rondo could only sign a two year extension at this time. That's nuts. If he holds out for FA he can sign here for 5 and elsewhere for 4.

Ainge is building Rondo's ego with this Captain thing and now this. He's also building confidence in Rondo around the league and building his trade value at the same time.

At this point Rondo looks like he's not going to be 100% until after the season. Tune in next season for what happens. I hope the C's move him, but the teams that would make big deals for an expensive players tend to have excellent PG's or have a ball passing D that doesn't need a specialist PG to run it. I would be very unhappy if he gets a 5 year deal for $14M+ per for the C's. He's been in decline since 2009-2010 and missed over 40% of the C's regular season games in that time. He doesn't have a lot left IMO - certainly not 6.5 years worth.
