How did Thompson let this one get away? He didn't turn the ball over once where as Curry turn it over a Baker's dozen it seems. Refs always sides with the home team, nothing new there.

Id recommend playing a little bit of defense. if they played average defense on durant, he would score around his average.

gentleman- I know fitz likes to act like the warriors are just running into hot shooting teams between okc and denver... but when its two times in a row.... its the warriors defense. They dont seem to have the same focus and desire out there and the west is too tough to not try in back to back games.

They needed to want this game.....and there was no effort at all out there on defense.

This is B.S Green, Klay and Dre were in Durants jersey so much that if they were in there any more it would be sexual assault.

Durant was knocking down shots with hands right in his face. You can't stop that. Literally the ONLY person in the league that can stop Durant is Lebron. All you can do is hope to slow him down, but when he gets hot? Forget about it.

The defense wasn't great but it wasn't as bad as you're making out. We held them to 40 something percent in the 2nd quarter.

The biggest positive is, we lost by six points. I mean if we had made those free throws? If we hadn't made as many turnovers? For a team (or player) to be that hot offensively and only manage to beat us by six points?

Making free throws is a bigger issue right now than the effort defensively, the effort on the defensive end was poor but with both Dre and Bogut on the floor that seems to have changed, tonight wasn't their best effort but it wasn't a poor effort either, there was a lot of nice defense being played on Durant, but he was in god mode.

Yes I watched. they were going under picks and they werent being phisical enough with durant. Bottom line though- if you are a good defensive team- you dont allow a guy ont he back end of a back to back to score a career high on you. It wasnt just durant either- they shot 58% as a team!!!.... and it wasnt just this game- this is two games in a row where the opponent has shot season bests in fg% against the warriors.

Goose, I've been telling you this whole time that free throw shooting is a major concern.

You have such a twisted view on how things work. They didn't ALLOW Durant to hit a career high. They had no choice, he was unstoppable. You could put 12 guys on him and he would still be making those shots, he was simply locked in. The Dubs didn't "allow" Durant to get a career high in points any more than people "allowed" Michael Jordan to win a championship. When someone of that caliber is in the zone only someone equally elite can slow them down, and the only active player on Durants level is Lebron.

Goose, I've been telling you this whole time that free throw shooting is a major concern.

I don't remember that. I only remember you bashing Curry, our best free throw shooter who is hitting an incredible 88% (or is it 87? Either way it's a REALLY high percentage).

But if you did say (I'm not saying you didn't, just that I don't recall it) then you were/are 100% right.

I have mentioned it before as well but I think a lot of it can be solved by Barnes and Klay being more aggressive in driving and getting to the line more often. Guys like Dre and Bogut have been poor ft shooters for a while now.

Hoping they sort it out soon.

MackShock
01-18-2014, 05:29 PM
I wasn't bashing Curry, I just said that 1 free throw can make all the difference . But I also said that the team as a whole was struggling from the line. Let's say Iggy goes 1-2, Barnes 1-2, Draymond 1-2, and Bogut 2-4. That's five missed free throws. We've lost 8 or so games by 4 or less. Imagine what our record would be if we buckled down. Free throws are a gift. We can't waste them.

.

Thats funny because every time he has stepped on the floor over the last 6 years- teams have found a way to slow him down better than we did... and this was on the back end of a back to back.

You can draw up game plans to slow players like durant down. Heck- Iggy did a good job of it last time the warriors played the thunder. It might be impossible to stop him- but as a team of pro athletes... it is definitely possible to slow a player down if its a game plan for the entire team.

What are you going to say next- that nate robinson is impossible to stop too?

there is a clear pattern. they dont stop nate robinson the other night... they start out this game allowing the thunder to shoot 78% from the floor in the first quarter.

You honestly dont think the 5th best defensive team in the league is capapable of atleast slowing another team down. it takes effort though- and even the warriors coach called them out on their effort level... its not that twisted of a way of thinking about things. its a realistic perspective of whats happening as oppose to bob fitzgerald- I swear he is amazed every time a player is left open and makes a wide open jump shot.... acts like there is nothing that could be done.

I couldn't agree more, we did our best to stop KD but he was just unstoppable and when he goes off like that, you just have to outscore him and we just couldn't do that. He didn't watch the game or had blinders on when watching it.

It was all on KD having one of those nights. Great players like him have nights like that where his stroke is on, the rim is mile wide and all he sees is net. If you ever play the game, you would know this. We just have to outscore him when he goes off and was not able to do that. If you had watch the game, you will know that our defense was sound and we came prepared to win it just like the game in Miami this year. Just give the Thunder credit and move on instead of being a sour loser okay.

It take more than 1 free throw to win that game.

Am i seriously the only one who sees a correlation between a teams defense and the opposing teams scoring efficiency? Virtually all defensive stats and measuring numbers are based on the opposing teams offense.

A team or a players offensive production is the most relevant way to evaluate the opposing teams level of defense. By your logic- the worse defensive team in the league could just make the argument that they kept running into hot players and there was nothing that could be done other than outscoring them

It was all on KD having one of those nights. Great players like him have nights like that where his stroke is on, the rim is mile wide and all he sees is net. I played highschool ball for one of the most competitive schools in California, We never assumed a player was impossible to defend. Sometimes it would take a team effort- but we always believed there was a way to keep 1 player from beating our team.

I know fitz says nate robinson is unstoppable, Durant is unstoppable, the new jersey nets are unstoppable, tonight anthony davis was unstoppable......somtimes it takes some effort but there is a way for a team with the warriors personel to slow other teams down.

Again in regards to kevin durant- the entire team shot 58%.....and 80% in the first quarter- you really think there wasnt anything more the warriors could do on defense.... I dont think its unreasonable to expect a team with guys like bogut and iggy to hold a team under 78% from the floor for a quarter.

Chromehounds
01-20-2014, 01:28 PM
I guess two things can be equally true, better defense effort and unstoppable. At the beginning of the 3rd the W's sent 2 guys to KD every time he got the ball, was very effective. Then they went away from such scheme in the 4th. On the other hand, KD was not in Beast mode he was more in GOD mode. So true the Defense/double team could have been better schemed/implemented but for this one exception not sure if it could have made a difference.
