I believe he held out for money? I thought it was a big deal when he finally was in 2k. Usually just player 23 on the Bulls was a fricking beast, lol. but yah i'm pretty sure he held out for money.

He wasn't part of the union so they always had to give him a different name and appearance. He was in games he just wasn't "Michael Jordan"

I think he had his own video game that was not basketball related.

Legal reasons. His likeness wasn't licensed to be used in video games. Same as Shaq, etc. This type of thing happened all the time in the 90s.

I heard that the creator of NBA Jam was actually a HUGE Pistons fan and HATED Michael Jordan, which is why he wasn't featured in that game. He actually programmed the Bulls to miss shots.

Now, Jordan DID have the rights to his own likeness, unlike most players (the NBA has the right to their likeness), so it would have cost Midwaygames more money, but the rumours I heard were that the game was already making tons of money and since the creator didn't like Jordan anyways, he didn't see a point in paying Jordan for a product that didn't need his likeness to sell.

I think other games, it was just a matter of the money. But NBA Jam made over a billion in quarter from the arcade game alone, let alone the console games. They could afford to pay for MJ if they wanted.
