Kobe Bryant is playing point guard and will guard Russell Westbrook tonight vs Thunder, coach Mike D'Antoni says.

Good or Bad idea?

I mean he has the ball in his hands anyway. But defensively yeah better hope westy is off he's going to have a lot of wide open shots

This should be a blowout win for the thunder with Kobe not even looking 80% I doubt he has an efficient night and I 100% know he won't shut down Westbrook! If he holds him to under 50% shooting then he did his job

Westbrook himself usually makes sure he doesn't shoot over 50%

This is a great move for the Lakers. Kobe is a good passer when he wants to be, but more importantly it will hopefully stop him from shooting, and just as important, it will make him play within the offense instead of freelancing with the ball. Great move on the part of the coach.

Russell will go for 50

I love Kobe but this is gonna be bad. I don't understand why you would have a 35 yr old Kobe coming back from injury guard the most explosive player in the league.

I know Kobe has contained him well in the pass but this pretty much tells you how depleted the Lakers roster is right now. Hopefully this whips kobe into shape and gives him a way of finding a rhythm on the defensive side of the floor until his offensive game picks up.

in theory sounds beyond stupid. Asking Kobe to guard one of the most explosive players with the ball in the game 3 games back?

Interesting to see what happens..

x2. terrible idea for him to guard westbrook at any point in this game.

Kobe usually guards him. Nash and Fisher have played Stephalosha chasing him around off screens. Plus since all 3 point guards are out for the next month, Kobe will be playing PG exclusively since he is the only one left on the team able to do so.

With Pau and D'antoni going at each other today, Kobe coming back and the team having to adjust to him, 3 point guards down, losing two in a row and the Thunder winning 5 in a row......... I got the Lakers by 12:D. But really, put your money on a blowout for the Thunder

Maybe they figure they'd rather Kobe stay on Westy and let him beat himself rather than sag off on Sef (like he always does on spot up shooters) and have him shooting open 3's all night.

Either way the Lakers should get destroyed tonight.

Tough , tough , tough assignment even when healthy , this could get ugly fast but the Lakers simply don't have the health right now to have it go any other way . X will back him up and Meeks and Young will hopefully help bring the ball up as well , this has all the makings of a Thunder blowout but stranger things have happened .

Hopefully the Lakers can slow it down a bit to minimize some of the Thunder's fast break opportunities but even if that happens our interior defense has been so porous it will be a very hard task to stop the Thunder inside . We could see a boat load of offensive rebounds against us and a full marching band parade to the charity stripe , have to hope they can pack in the lane and hope for a poor outside shooting performance from OKC , still , always going to pull for my team and i know Kobe will give all he has , he along with everyone else is going to have to ...

This might turn into a horrible lesson.

Only Lakers chance is sinking threes from start to beginning.

Kobe needs to stop being passive. He needs to back that rhythm and become a threat. Those turnovers are a huge hit. C'mon Kobe. If there is one player I hate to see degrade, it's you. He needs to look for his shots and just pull himself back until net year draft and hopefully grab a free agent. They won't win this year but I really respect his dedication and greatness.

Yeah, I don't want him playing point. He's Kobe ******* Bryant. Score dude.

That being said lol, I think he came back a month or two too early.

I'm not even sure he was passive to be passive, or passive to prove a point. Pau and Dantoni *****ed so much and the whole team was pulled into their war of words, so he went uber feed the post.

I agree there needs to be a balance though, as he's looking to keep the others happy which is something he wouldn't have been doing. Game 2 is more like Kobe

This game was played too early, I was at the mall when it came on, stayed at Nordstrom to watch the entire 2nd half, it was actually pretty fun watching all the Laker fans faces as the disgust emerged.
