"Earn" I use lightly because he makes A LOT of money for not doing much at the moment. What could he do to improve his shooting percentage and effectiveness for the Kings? The dude has some skill.

just reign in some of the bad shots.....that's all he has to do.

He finishes around the rim really well, if you see him from 8' and in, and headed to the rim with a head of steam, he's very explosive getting to the rim.....even on layups and finger rolls, he can surprise you with how easy he makes it look. He's good in the clutch, makes more than he misses, but he's less likely to pass, making him predictable. He rebounds very well.

It's the stupid shots that kill you with his game. All he has to do to become an elite player is to learn to trust his teammates. That's the biggest factor in why he's overpaid.

Given his comments about how he "knows how to play" and general dismissal of analytics, he believes he earns his paycheck. You cannot tell someone how to change before you convince them they NEED to change. And Rudy Gay does not think he needs to change.

He has never accepted playing in a team concept. To him, an iso contested 20ft fadeaway is a good shot, as long as he's the one taking it. He literally does not understand that moving the ball from side to side distorts the defense and gets you easier looks. Rudy Gay is a case study in poor decision making.

If anyone hasn't seen the highlights, watch Rudy Gay's 37 FGA against the Rockets on November 11:

The ball stops at Rudy Gay and he took contested fadeaways time and time again.

This question is easy.

1) Shoot SMART shots. Stop trying to shoot hard shots all the time. It's OK to use the other 4 guys on the team... passing will NOT make you go lose your hair, grow hair on your palms, or give you a case of gout.
2) Make your Smart shots. Wide open? Put it in the bucket at a decent clip.

Do all that and the problem is fixed.

Attack the rim. Somewhere in his career, he decided to stop working hard when it comes to attacking the defense/rim. Maybe it's his confidence in his jumper or maybe he's trying to play within the offensive scheme he's in.

Gay became a star based on what he did at the rim imo.

All other stats remain the same but over 50% FG.

stop taking long 2's, attack the rim and get to the line, and his coach needs to use him playing off the ball, moving more. Also, learn that there are 2 sides of the floor.

how is Gay in post ups? With his size, I am surprised some plays don't put him much closer to the rim on his initial catch.

Rudy needs to play more defense; stay focused during games; attack the rim; don't hold the ball in a 20 sec dribble before he shoots the ball; and like everyone says , play with the other 4 on his team.
I don't miss him overall here in Memphis, but I DO miss his explosive dunks!
