I was referring to his effort of the defensive end man. He seems to slack off and complain a lot during the season, but steps up his D in the playoffs. At least that's how it appears IMO

I said before the season I have Wolves at 7 seed, still do. NY isn't particularly good this season and OKC without Westbrook is a lotto team.. so I'm curious to see how they play when tested by a contender. What?

When I see Durant scoring 42 on 25 free throw attempts and beating bottom 3 teams in the conference by 3 points... it's safe to say they would be a lotto team. Their entire game is predicated on Durant+Westbrook iso ball. They lose a lot of depth every season it seems the last two years.

You're basing that off of one game dude. Durant was able to win a round in the playoffs by himself and made every game against a pretty good Memphis game close, and the majority of their games would be against teams worse than the Rockets and Grizzlies of last season. You also have to remember that getting other players involved after you're number two goes down in the playoffs is pretty hard to do. OKC had a whole preseason to fix it, and also have the regular season to fix it as well.

And basing off of last season, OKC would have to had 16 less losses than they did last season. You think Westbrook is worth that much with a team that's got Durant and Ibaka?

Basing it on one game lol? I'm basing it on their talent pool declining every year while role players like Sefalosha+Ibaka+Collison age, young guys like PJ/Lamb don't look impressive and the competition improves a lot every year around them.

What am I overreacting to? I felt this way before the season even started. OKC has declined in terms of personnel around their stars and it's a fact, not an opinion. Combine that with much improved competition and teams figuring out their game more and more as time goes on... nothing I'm saying is wrong.

3 games isn't enough to say this give it month i don't think there as good as last year but i am jumping the gun every game they have lost some pieces but they are still a top team in the west unless you think it will the suns vs 76ers in the finals

Is this sarcasm? Because yes.. I'm not counting Michael CarGAWD Williams out of the finals TBH. They may be in the discussion in the west but I can confidently say I think that by the end of the year OKC probably won't be a HCA team this year. I think the 5 seed is where they end up with the Clippers, Warriors, Spurs and Rockets grabbing the top 4.

I think you're forgetting that they lost Kevin Martin who at the very least was their 6th man.. and that Kendrick progressively gets worse every single year. Or that as I said all the contenders around them improved far more than they did this summer (which wasn't at all).

I'm shocked the Wolves made a game of it when up 21 or w/e. That being said considering who they have played and how talented they are... a 3-0 start isn't surprising at all. I have them as the 7 seed with 48-50 wins if they can stay healthy.

Even off the bench I always mentioned how he just dominates games in an all around fashion only the superstars of the league do. I've seen him completely dominate games on both ends of the floor. He's a guy you definitely have to game plan for. Offensively he's very streaky, probably why he's underrated. He's a burst scorer... where he will have 2 points in the first half.. then all the sudden he's finished the game with 17 and you wonder what happened. He's had like 5+ 14 point and up 4th quarters in his career.

Tonight and last game we saw him take over in the 4th.

no, it was the issue of a GM doing things like signing notoriously injured players in Kirilenko and Roy, and depending on them to play starting roles, and then also having your starting PG return half way through the season with the same injury Rose had...and then Love having some fluke push up injury that kept him out of the season. There arent really major injury concerns on the team right now...we didnt sign a guy with no knees to be the starting SG this season.

He's a star. Not a superstar.

I've watched way to many minny games that are close, that are lost in the fouth quarter, especially late in games for me to give him superstar status.

Barring injury (no small historical concern) I think Love will have a better year than Melo - he'll score a little less, greatly out-rebound him, greatly out-defend him, and generally be a better all-around player and teammate.

My take-aways from the Kobe-loss Lakers' first 4 games:
The gap between the best player and the worst of their 11 rotation guys is relatively small, so:
They should play the 11 guys they've been playing;
but with generally equal playing time for all of them (for maximum energy);
with game-to-game adjustment being based on the specific opponent;
and within-each-game adjustments being based on which Lakers are hot/cold;
while NOT leaving anybody in or out for extra-long stretches.

The single biggest change this would make so far: Blake would give up some 10 minutes a game to Hill.

As I see it, that's the Lakers best chance to stay close to .500 ball till Kobe gets back.

P.S. Also, this will keep the injuries down to a minimum and keep the maximum of players in good playing condition for when he gets back.

Huh?? Melo has been to the WCF once, 2nd round twice I believe and 1st round multiple times.
I obviously meant series wins.

lol come on now, you're cherry picking all the best players Melo has played with in 9 years and putting them on the same team... yea that would look impressive for anyone.

While at the same time leaving out good players that Love has played with like Pek & Rubio? Yes we all understand the injuries, especially as a Knick fan... but at some point a 26% career winning % is just hard to look past, that's not just bad, that's historically bad.

But MIN's front line looked beastly last night though, and Martin was on fire. I see no reason why MIN can't win 50 games this year as long as they are relatively healthy. If they don't, I think Love needs to start looking in the mirror.

cherry pick me a single caliber player I listed for Melo that Love played with previous to Rambis figuring out that Pekovic was good, and Rubio came along (remember, the Wolves were a playoff team before Rubio went down, and they played 13 minutes together last year as a Love-Rubio-Pek combo).

So please, find me even remotely good starting caliber NBA players that Kevin Love has had the fortune to play with for a single season.

And I have even commented, if the Wolves stay healthy, this is a put up or shut up year for Love. But judging him on his teams previous success is insane. He has played with garbage for all but half the lockout season.

Most of those guys you listed for Melo were injured as well for substantial amounts of time. He's barely played with Amare since they came together.

I'm not saying Love should have a chip under his belt or anything with the cast he's had and injuries and such. But the true greats can take just about any roster and at least have them in the playoff conversation. I can't think of any great player that has had such a low winning % over a 5 year stretch as Love.

That's why I've had a hard time putting him among the game's greats, but like you said this should be an interesting year. You guys have 50+ win talent on that team, especially when Chase comes back. There is outside shooting finally, interior presence, good PG play... and a fairly deep roster. I don't see any glaring holes. And with DEN looking bad, this is really MIN's shot to not only get into the playoffs, but to maybe get a top 5 seed.

my point was, people act as if Melo took over a shattered roster and led it to the playoffs. No, he didn't. He also had plenty of help, Love has not. So comparing their team records as an indicator on who is the better player doesn't work.

And yes, if his roster stays relatively healthy, there is no reason he shouldn't lead them to the playoffs. This is his biggest year, and it's time for him to put up or shut up.
