The Memphis Grizzlies are closing in on a contract extension with shooting guard Quincy Pondexter, according to sources briefed on the discussions.

Sources told ESPN.com that the Grizzlies intend to finalize a deal with Pondexter before Thursday night's 11:59 p.m. deadline for extensions for first-round picks from the 2010 NBA draft. The (Memphis) Commercial Appeal reported Wednesday night that Pondexter is expected to receive a four-year extension.

Pondexter would thus become the sixth first-round pick from the Class of 2010 to score a contract extension before the deadline. He'll soon join the Washington Wizards' John Wall, Indiana Pacers' Paul George, Sacramento Kings' DeMarcus Cousins, Utah Jazz's Derrick Favors and Milwaukee Bucks' Larry Sanders on the list of extension recipients.

Other Class of 2010 alumni still in play for extensions, according to league sources, include the Utah Jazz's Gordon Hayward and the Phoenix Suns' Eric Bledsoe.

ESPN.com reported earlier this month that Pondexter's teammate Ed Davis has also been in talks with the Grizzlies on an extension, but sources say those talks are not as far along.

Given pondexters annual improvement, this could turn into a bargain.
