Health and Age considered... what core would you pick to build around right now and why?

Kevin Love & Russel Westbrook

Paul George & Anthony Davis

Marc Gasol & Tony Parker

Kahwi Leonard & Joakim Noah

Andre Drummond & Eric Bledsoe

John Wall & Roy Hibbert

I'd take Paul George & Anthony Davis. Would be an elite defensive core to build around with plenty of room to grow

Probably George and Davis, though I'm not as high on George as some. A close second for me is Hibbert/Wall.

George Davis all day

I would love Wall/Drummond though

Westbrook and Love for me. Westbrook's a top 10 player, Love a top 2 rebounder, and Love gives Westbrook plenty of space to operate.

If you take health into account like the OP said it's not that easy.

how so? yes they were injured last season, but neither have much of an extensive injury history to suggest a pattern(anymore so than the others named),besides both are far and away the best players named as a duo(eric bledsoe can be an ironman but he'll never rise to the level of a westbrook)

Davis and George. There are a couple other good ones up there but I see a crazy 2-way potential with these guys and they're both super young.

Yea George and Davis both have the potential for two way dominance and are the most well rounded of the bunch in the future most likely. I also see crazy synergy between the duo forming.

I'd take Paul George and Anthony Davis, both are very young(23 and 20), possess great size, very versatile, good defenders, and have been relatively healthy during the span of their careers.

Love has played 81, 60, 73, 55, 18 games in his career. That's a history of injuries. Westbrook doesn't have the same history but his style is one that will lead to future injuries and currently coming off one as we speak.

I love Westbrook and Love on paper, but just don't see them winning any championships. Particularly paired up VS any of the other duos I had listed... they would be fun as hell to watch though.

My thoughts too. Westbrook much like guys like Griffin, Rose, Wall etc will likely age poorly because of how explosive and out of control they can be. Playstyles like this lead to problems eventually. Love as you said has been injury prone, at least somewhat. Besides Westbrook doesn't pass enough to truly maximize what Love can bring scoring/shooting wise. They would be my second choice but with a few reservations.

I'd go either Curry & Davis or Irving & Drummond.

If I'm building a franchise I'm avoiding injury-prone defensive liabilities.

Love & Westbrook. Plenty of defensive C's that can help Love out.

Rubio and Anthony Davis
Rubio and Drummond
Rubio and Paul George
Rubio and Durant

Pretty much Rubio and almost anybody. I like Rubio.

Also a lot of the duos you guys mentioned.

gotta be either george/davis or wesbrook/love. i think i'd take george/davis strictly because of health at the moment. since love has missed a lot of time recently and westbrook is coming off surgery.

None of the OP's duo's win a ring though because none are better than Lebron and Wade, or Lebron and Bosh, or Westbrook and Durant, or Harden and Dwight, or Kobe and Gasol (even though Kobe, Gasol, and Dwight basically sucked for what they were last year) I guess on second thought, none of those duo's on paper are better than Kobe and Gasol, but in reality, they would all probably out perform Kobe and Gasol just because Kobe doesn't play team basketball (for long).

@IKnowHoops.. wow you got off on a serious tangent there. I'm not asking what the best duos of all time would be. I'm just asking in your opinion who would be the smartest pair to build around, given the players I listed.

It just interests me to hear peoples opinions. I didn't give too much thought when pairing them outside of being somewhat equal, and left out the likes of Lebron/Kobe/MJ/Shaq etc. because I don't really care to have 4 pages full of people picking the obvious best pair ( anything Lebron & X )

Also kind of funny that you left out Duncan & Parker.. lols... Harden & Howard are totally better!!!

Irving + Oladipo would be a sick backcourt.

Cleveland could have Drummond and Oladipo, but they have Bennett and Waiters instead.

Kevin Love & Russel Westbrook
that would give me an elite offense by themselves and they are still young.

lebron needs shooters around. who else but the best shooter himself in Curry. Lebron would avg 10 assists with Curry by his side lol

Paul George and Anthony Davis. Not even close. Two very young and bright stars. Still too early to tell but they seem healthy. Most potential for sure. Paul George is going to be a top 10 player this year. Anthony David has huge potential.

Here's what I don't get. Why in the hell did the OP use those duos for the sake of this thread? He just picked any random assortment of players that have no real reason to be tied together. Maybe with Westy and Love, you could use the UCLA ties, but that doesn't make a difference to the other duos on this list. If you're going to start a thread like this, either use existing duos in the league or have SOMETHING that ties them together. Maybe it's colleges, country of origin, draft year, "what if?" scenarios, etc.

Anyways for the purpose of this thread, I'm taking Westy and Love by a hair over George and Davis, just because I know what I'm getting with Westy and Love. Davis and George still haven't reached the potential we all keep waiting to see, but there's no guarantee either player ever does. Meanwhile, Love and Westbrook are already arguably top 10 players in the league, they have experience playing together and their games complement each other particularly well. Throw a defensive 5 and some shooters around that duo and you could be a contending team for a decade if they can stay healthy.
