Proposed deal will send Gortat, Shannon Brown and Kendall Marshall to Wizards and Suns on course to receive Emeka Okafor & at least one pick

Prob works for both teams, but def a good move for the PHO tank, especially if the pick is any good.

Washington don't owe any picks, so there's no Stepien restrictions.

Great move for Washington. Gortat is really underrated.

I don't think he's underrated... he just thinks he's the second coming of Shaq or something. Don't let his goofy big bird look fool you... he thinks he's the GOAT and looks like John Stamos

I cant wait for Emeka's buyout when he returns, hopefully aids a contender

Makes a lot of sense. They're not going to be far above the salary floor post trade, if they are at all, so the negotiations likely won't be the toughest - dude could get a pretty good deal.

Really happy with this trade. Who knows how long Okafor will be out and they could have potentially really struggled with no decent center.

Top 12 protected 2014 pick, according to Sam Amick.

I think raptors has a better chance in making the playoffs than washington though.
Starting to transition that west is going be "easier" to make the playoffs record wise.

This is awesome! Nice work by McDonough to get rid of those contracts. Building the team the right way and now if everything falls in line we could have 4 1st round picks in a loaded draft.

Raptors seem like they are going to blow up the team any second and go full on tank for Wiggins. Regardless, post trade, I think Washington will be the better team, and they will get that 8th seed.

Would be a great tank move if it was anyone except Phoenix. I don't trust them with anything but a consensus # 1 pick, and that will most likely be between Philly and Boston.

Lee is also in deal. Marshall,Brown and Lee would be moved again.

Apparently the Suns may have as many as 4 1st round picks after this trade depending on where other teams finish (the picks are protected). Perfect year for that to happen.

Good long term deal for Suns

Phoenix removes the veil entirely from their tank job. Good for them, they were likely the last seed in the conference regardless.

If I were a Suns fan, I'd just focus on college basketball instead of my team this year. It's going to be a great season and you guys are getting the pick of the litter.

I believe some of them are protected first-round draft picks but still it's good for their quick rebuild either way.

Yep, and he's doing far better for himself, just like everyone else who leaves that idiot John Wall seems to do.

If Shannon Brown gets waived/bought out, he can defs resurrect his career as a off-bench player for a contender!

I think this is a great deal for both teams. Phoenix goes into full tank mode and will have a ton of first rounders next season, while Phoenix gets a legit big to replace Okafor, who was out for a while anyway. Everyone keeps mentioning them as a possible 8 seed, but I could feasibly see them as even better than that depending on how a few variables play out.

The strength of that team will no doubt be the back court, and if Wall is as good as he was in the second half of last season and Beal make the leap everyone thinks he's going to make, they could rival the best back courts in the league. Gortat automatically gives them a major upgrade in the front court, and as long as Nene stays healthy, they should be very good defensively and provide some nice offensive versatility.

The one major question mark is at SF, but they at least have some options there. Ariza provides some solid perimeter defense, while Webster proved to be an elite 3-point shooter a year ago and Porter at least has some upside.

If things go their way and this team shows a little maturity, there's no reason why they couldn't be as high as the 6th seed. Only Miami, Chicago, Indiana, Brooklyn and New York are clearly better on paper.

Now if Wall and Beal continue playing like they did in the 2nd half, they could make the playoffs.

Like this trade. Gortat and Nene creates one of the more imposing frontcourts in the league. Those multiple picks that the Suns get will do them real well.

Please buy out Okafor. If the Clippers get a hold of Okafor as the backup big and he returns in the not too distant future... watch out NBA.

Eh I think we could have got more Gortat had we waited.

Top 12 protection is kinda steep.

Guess the Spurs gave up on netting Gortat. If Phoenix had to refund tickets last year, they better not even charge this season.

Yeah, he is doing really well for himself soaking up all those minutes in Denver. While also adding a ton of highlights to the blooper real.

Please let me know why John Wall is an idiot and who has left and done better for themselves?

For those interested. This is the breakdown of the protection for the Suns' possible 4 first rounder's.

1. Suns have their own pick.
2. Indy's (From Scola trade) is lottery protected: The sky could fall and this pick will still land in Phoenix.
3. Minny's (From taking Wes Johnson off their hands last season): Top 13 lotto protected.
4. Washington (Gortat trade): Top 12 lotto protected.

This is what I posted in the Suns forum:

I do like the trade. It accomplishes a few things.

1. Nets us a first rounder. Nevermind the protection. Barring injury, Washington likely makes the playoffs. At worst, maybe they finish just outside which could means the 13 or 14 pick.

2. It alleviates us of the contracts of Marshall (who it sounds like we were going to cut had we not dealt him), Lee (probably would have gotten cut as well), and most importantly, Shannon Brown. Brown was the primary guy keeping Archie Goodwin from getting big minutes.

3. If I have my numbers right, this solidifies our roster. Meaning Ish Smith, Christmas, and Krastov (sp) will be part of our team. No other player will need to be cut.

4. This paves the way for our youth to get big minutes right away. I believe Okafor is injured so chances are, Frye or Plumlee will start at center to begin the year. Possibly both on opening night since Keef is suspended.

We weren't going to get a better first rounder. Not this year at least. This was an excellent move. We get a guy in Okafor who can help the youngins (Gortat wasn't going to be a guy who could do this) and the first rounder we wanted.

Nothing to hate about this trade.

How does a team seem like they're going to do that? Other than you just reading a couple posts saying so.

There has been rumors the new GM has his own plans, and Rudy Gay isn't part of it.

Obviously he arrived there after they already had Gay... but his first move was to salary dump his 3rd leading scorer. The Raptors also have a bunch of contracts that have non-guaranteed money for 2014. Just seems like the GM is setting it up that if the team doesn't look like a legit playoff team in the first 2 months that can be tweaked to a contender, he is going to instead blow it up and tank.
