victorino cost us this game. horrible play in center in the 9th and hitting into a double play in the 7th or 8th inning, plus he screwed uehara on his streak. they should have called that an error not a triple

The inability to cash in on walks and errors really cost us this game. Oh well. Tomorrow is another day. Rays lost so magic number is 3.

I honestly don't mind losing a few down the stretch against the O's just to screw the Yankees... Simply returning the favor from that final day of the regular season in 2011 when Rivera "could" have closed it out against the Rays.

Playing RF all year and then moving to CF could be part of that issue. Yes it should be a triuple, and going nuts on Victorino in my opinion is somewhere between ridiculous and petty.

Hard to be mad, but why the **** would you bunt without giving Berry, who has a ridiculous sb%, a chance to steal 2b? And my god I will be enraged if they have a similar situation in the postseason and he doesn't PH for Drew vs a lefty.

Hes had a **** start to his career, but it's not like that's uncommon for successful players.

I knew it wouldn't happen, doesn't mean it doesn't piss me off. When they showed his splits vs the guy where he struck out every time he faced him, I laughed and said he will hit a dp this time. I'll laugh when Farrell wins manager of the year as well.

The Yankees are already dead. The O's are a long shot to get in as well. It will be the Indians if anyone sneaks in.

Farrell is just pushing the wrong button with the platoon/splits. Anyway they had so many chances to win this game they fail every opportunity. How many times did an O reliever had a clean inning after the 7th?

Well, I've never been a huge fan, but he's young, and he can play the field. If he turns out to be a 85 OPS+ hitter in CF his first 3 years with + fielding and baserunning, than given the salary, it's OK. But some of the earlier projections here in the spring were laughable.

Yeah, just like Pedroia didn't have it when he was horrible in his first stint, or Mike Trout was horrible in his first stint... You should hate to say it because it's a ridiculous thing to say at the very beginning of his career. History is littered with players that were terrible their first brief stints in the majors that ended up being very good players. It's also littered with players who took the league by storm in their first stint, only to fall off a cliff the next season. You can't make declarations about a player after 90 ab's. Or after spring training.

All it means is that they should make a safety net for him next year like they did with Pedroia

Sorry this is a little off topic but I was curious, does anyone know how much the cheque Red Sox ownership wrote out to Rivera's foundation the other night? I seen Toronto dish $10k. I'm guessing we were in the $25k - $50k range?

There is no one warming in the Red Sox bullpen. Lackey is at 100 pitches.

This is the stuff I don't get with Farrell. He let Peavy throw around 120 pitches yesterday. Why? We should be lightening the load of our starters, not running them dry.

Ha ha. Well said. As much as I criticized the sox team last season pre bobby weirdo, I still gave the team a clean slate and was rooting for them to make the playoffs. I believed. Every Sox fan is happy by how things turned out. Very few anywhere had the Sox winning the Division. A lot more had them 3rd as the 2nd WC. It's one of the great "bridge" years I can remember.

Still, just to underline how well things have worked out so far - looking forward to '14 while the SP situation looks very good, and pen issues can be fixed with some cash and good decisions, the positional players are very much going to suffer regression as a group in '14. WMB and XB are going to have to come on (and JBJ too if Ells is gone) to make up for this list of players, at least half of whom will regress IMO: Ortiz, Pedroia, Carp, Nava, Victorino, Gomes.

Drew might be back if they don't believe in WMB and XB fully and Drew gets and accepts an QO. Napoli may or may not be back, Salty will probably be signed. At the least Ells will get a QO too, which I doubt he accepts.

BC has some work to do, and if the parade of SP's starts to push hard from the Minors, than trading guys like Peavy becomes another way to solve some shortcomings.

So rejoice, but, this is a one year team, and the true face of the 2015-2020 Sox is still a ways off.

-Lavigne43-
09-20-2013, 12:21 PM
You believed EEasy? Weren't you the one that said you hated this team so much that you were going to become a Yankees fan?

You can't blame no one for picking them to win the division. No one can predict Ortiz would return healthy and continue to rake, Lackey would be back in Angels form, Koji would be great, Nava would be great, Carp would be great, Clay would be off the charts, Doubront would be good, etc
