Farrell's a damn idiot sometimes. What's wrong with starting Bogaerts today then starting Drew the next 2 days against Norris and Tillman? If it was my decision:

Tue vs BAL (Chen) - WMB at 3B, Xander at SS; Drew bench
Wed vs BAL (Norris) - Xander at 3B, Drew at SS; WMB bench
Thu vs BAL (Tillman) - WMB at 3B, Drew at SS; Xander bench
Fri vs CHW (Santiago) - WMB at 3B, Xander at SS; Drew bench
Sat vs CHW (Danks) - WMB at 3B, Xander at SS; Drew bench
Sun vs CHW (Rienzo) - WMB at 3B, Drew at SS; Xander bench
Mon vs DET (Fister) - Xander at 3B, Drew at SS; WMB bench

That's probably along the lines of what I'd like Farrell to do.

Not the correct time to be loyal, we need to beat the O's and this is clearly not a matchup where I want Drew starting over Bogaerts, especially when you consider that Drew could play the next 2 games in a row vs RHP.

-Lavigne43-
08-27-2013, 04:29 PM
Of course, but that's what he clearly is doing. I understand the reverse splits or good history with Ryu and Zito. Chen owns lefties, the only explanation is blind loyalty to your veterans. We will probably get an 0-4 for that. He should sit WMB one of the next 2 games.

Brian MacPherson ‏@brianmacp 4m
Farrell on SS decision: "I'm not going to turn away from Stephen Drew" just based on an opposing pitcher's splits.

See stupid loyalty. Like sitting him vs a lefty is going to harm Drew, he should be happy since it would help his numbers for FA.

What's the big deal? Drew has been mashing everything lately. Lefty's, righty's, starters, relievers.

Bogaerts ain't going anywhere, don't get your tubes tied in a knot.

The big deal is that these games vs the O's are huge, we have to put our best team forward. Drew sucks vs lefties and Chen owns lefties. It's a terrible matchup for him. Matchups like this one is the reason Xander is up. Salty should not be starting either.

Ross (SSS)

My focus is different than most of you.

WMB has cooled off, either Drew or XB should get some games at 3B in this homestand.

XB so far does NOT look like he belongs in most of his PA's. He looks over matched at the plate, and he looks like he's watching who is watching him on the field instead of just playing. I'd like my rookie call ups to actually look and play the part of late season savior before I actually want to see him get regular PA's at Drew's expense, and to a lesser extent WMB's.

Projections and hype are great things, but not in the realm of actually taking away PA's. OTOH tonight in particular I might just start him.

-Lavigne43-
08-27-2013, 07:07 PM
Don't know what you saw to make you think he looks overmatched. He's started two games. The first one he went hitless with a bunch of groundouts. In the second one he was was very good with a double and single. In between he pinch hit twice with a single. It's not like he's k'ing a ton or looking silly vs slow stuff. He struckout once.

No ones clamoring for him to take Drew's job. Just to start vs tough lefties.

In a blowout like this I'm pretty sure he's just trying to one up Napoli's bomb. In a tighter game he would obviously have a different approach.

The Sox have seen more than their share of LHSP since XB came up, I'm not putting Drew into a strict platoon at this point. However as I said, I don't know why WMB isn't getting a few days off by now.

I think the reason for not starting ZB is because hes trying to protect him from getting hurt. That would be a shame to loose your top prospect from injuries? So no JF is not an idiot for benching him. That is my guess on why he's starting SD over ZB

Did you forget the :laugh2: ?

I'm sure disagree with me on how XB has looked. All I know is it's small sample size, and we have a starting SS that's among the best in the AL. Even if he's not back next year, agents and players pay attention to the way FA's are treated. The balance between XB doing great and Drew doing poorly relatively speaking hasn't been passed, therefore XB isn't supplanting Drew. Now WMB is another story. I hoped before XB even came up that he'd be getting about 60% of the games, from WMB and Drew. Baring injury or an explosion or slump of course.

Sox seem to be playing better, another reason not to be toggling too many switches at once.

I can't remember anything from the first game other than him grounding out. The last game he looked good though. Opposite field double in a big spot. He got robbed of what would probably be another oppo double when AGon made a great diving catch. I can't remember the other hit, I think it might have been a blooper. His pinch hit hit was opposite field too. We need to get him AB's to find out what he is right now at the major league level. It doesn't need to be a strict platoon, but he should start vs lefties with big splits., along with getting starts at 3b.

With a sweep out of the division picture? I agree. Because then both us and the Rays would have to choke...unlikely. But after what happened in 2011, I am more cautious than usual. But I guess the difference between now and 2011 is much better pitching. No chance we get into long losing streaks with our steady rotation from #1 thru #5 and Clay up our sleeves. And another one is the chemistry. Even Helen Keller could see that this bunch is much closer than the 2011 team.

Helen Keller is a basic ***** though. I gotta agree though I think were going to the playoffs for sure.

Sweeping the O's and going up 3.5 games on TB with the White Sox coming to Boston would be perfect.

Lester's velocity is so much better. Again with the 95's 96. He's consistently hitting his max velocity.

Tillman has thrown a couple meatballs already.

Maybe it's time to give Ortiz a day off, he looks awful at the plate.

He keeps hitting 96

Nava has reached in 35 straight starts. That's the 4th-longest streak in the AL this year behind Cabrera (44), Trout (40), and Kipnis (37).

If Pedroia doesn't win the gold glove...well the award is already a joke but how can he not win it

Lester's command sucks today though. Lots of pitches already. He might only go 5

Don't know if you're talking about defense since I was away from the tv, but his offense has been mediocre since the end of May

That's what happens when with 2 outs, you walk a guy who NEVER walks.

You're asking for trouble.

Lester just doesn't have it today, control is way off.

P.S. Machado has the ugliest/funniest ears I've ever seen.

Just one of those nights, we have one every week.

So you have Workman warming up since last inning and you don't bring him in to face the RHH?

Your stupidity continues to amaze me Farrell.

For as hot as Shane has been, that was a terrible AB.

We all now Papi is not getting it done here right? This lefty owns him.

Farrell on Ortiz: “We’re not thinking about sitting him…. He’ll be in the lineup tomorrow.”

Stupid. I believe the next two games are vs lefties. It makes total sense to give him a day off. Let Gomes DH and play Nava in LF.

Still won 2/3 vs the O's. Would of been nice to steal that one tonight and go up 3.5 on the Rays. Hopefully we sweep the White Sox but I'll take 2/3 again, if we continue to win series' that begins to add up.
