View Full Version : Under-25 Talent Rankings, Position No. 7

I've always been more excited about up-and-coming teams rather than established contenders. An ESPN poll on the subject piqued my interest. So:
Rank each of the NBA's 30 teams based on the overall talent of their players who will start this season younger than 25 years old.
The NBA season begins Oct. 29. A player must still be 24 years old on that date to be considered as part of an overall judgement of a team's under-25 talent base.
Some of you need to check the birthdays of your favorite 24-year-old players, too. Kevin Durant, Kevin Love, Derrick Rose, Stephen Curry, Danilo Gallinari and others all turn 25 before Oct. 29.
There's a poll on ESPN that shows which players on a team are under 25 (http://espn.go.com/sportsnation/post/_/id/9550791/nba-teams-25-talent) check the birth dates of the 24-year-olds before making them part of your decision.

1. Thunder
2. Pelicans
3. Rockets
4. Cavaliers
5. Pistons
6. Wizards

I went with the Trailblazers here. Damian Lillard is looking like a franchise point guard. If Nicolas Batum can get past his injuries, he can be a top-five small forward – and he'll still be 24 when the season starts. C.J. McCollum won't win Rookie of the Year with Mo Wiliams on the team, but he still looks promising – hopefully as a sixth man. And Thomas Robinson, given the chance, can be a serviceable big, maybe a working man's Paul Milsap.

Magic here. Blazers not far behind. No way the Magic's young core should be way down here at 7.

and probably a couple others I'm forgetting, all younger than 24.

My initial thought was Warriors; Harrison Barnes, Klay Thompson, Festus Ezeli, Nemanja Nedovic, Kent Bazemore, Draymond Green.

But then I took a closer look,

I really like New Orleans and the group of youngsters on their squad; Jrue Holiday, Anthony Davis, Eric Gordon and Al-Farouq Aminu.

The Cavs have a nice group; Irving, Zeller, Waiters, Tristan Thompson and Anthony Bennett.

Utah deserve a shout; Derrick Favors, Enes Kanter, Alec Burks, Trey Burke and a personal favourite of mine, Gordon Hayward.

But the winner, for me, in terms of the collective talent and potential has to be Portland.

I LOVE what the Blazers have done recently, they have a nice young group; Lillard, Batum, Thomas Robinson, Meyers Leonard and my original pick for ROY, C.J. McCollum.

I think Barnes + Klay is better than any other under-24 wing duo, but that's another topic.

I think the Warriors will be up soon. They were my 3rd pick after Magic and Blazers of the remaining teams.

Easily Blazers, and probably Utah next.
