Harder Debate between Contemporaries on who was better?

Hakeem vs Shaq

Duncan vs Shaq

Kobe vs Shaq

Kobe vs Duncan

Garnett vs Dirk

Lebron vs Kobe

Magic vs Bird

Wilt vs Russell

Trying to use guys who were in there primes mainly the same time, even if not at there peak?

:sigh:

Duncan vs. Shaq is the toughest one for me...but a few more good years from Duncan and he can wrap that up.

Kobe vs Duncan is a tough one. I lean slightly more towards Duncan at this point, but it's close.

LeBron vs. Kobe is close now because of Kobe's longevity, but I think LeBron can easily surpass him. LeBron has now had mutliple years (maybe even 4-5) better than Kobe's best.

Kobe vs. Shaq could become close again if Kobe continues to succeed well into his mid/late 40s. Shaq was far superior in his prime, but longevity can make up for that. I don't think it quite has yet.

Magic vs. Bird is another tough one. I'm cooling on Magic of late. I used to think it was clearly Magic, but it's closer to a tossup now for me.

I'm comfortable with the following:

Hakeem vs Shaq
Garnett vs Dirk
Wilt vs Russell

JB is separating Prime from Peak Play. So yes, Kobe was very much in his prime at the same time as practically everyone who was named here, that tends to happen when you have GOAT longevity.

Magic at his absolute prime was not better than Bird. Bird in his prime was just up there in terms of passing, rebounding, much better scorer and defender. Magic has the better overall career but Bird at his absolute peak was just a tad better.

Fair enough. I'll roll with Kobe then.

Hakeem vs Shaq- I love Hakeem, but Lakers Shaq was more dominating than any center I have ever seen. Hakeem was more complete, but Shaq was a force of nature on both ends. I put his prime over Duncan and Kobe as well.

Kobe vs Duncan- Tough for me. I will go with Kobe.

Garnett vs Dirk- KG due to all around play.

Lebron vs Kobe- Kobe for longevity, Lebron is catching up fast.

Magic vs Bird- Bird. Better all around.

Wilt vs Russell- Wilt.

All of these are pretty tough. I think Dirk and KG is the toughest.

I think Kobe vs Duncan is the hardest, they play entirely different styles of basketball for entirely different styles of teams, and they're different positions. I think the public tends to think Kobe had more help during his career, but I don't think that is the case.

Are we debating these matchups or are we picking the hardest matchup to debate? My answer is to the latter, f the former.
