LHP Franklin Morales, who threw an inning for Double A Portland Wednesday, could be activated off the disabled list as soon as Friday. He has been on the DL since June 23 with a strained pectoral muscle on his left side.

With Matt Thornton going on the DL on Wednesday, the Sox want that third lefty reliever.

"We've come to know that three lefties in the bullpen is a little bit of a luxury," Farrell said.Boston.com

So you want to trade Beato for a guy with a 7.30ERA who walk 9 in 10+ inning for a guy that has pitch better?

YES, I'll take the guy who's posted a ~3.73ERA, ~8.8k/9 over the past TWO YEARS over the 5.6K/9 guy who is around for mop-up innings of MR. In an INCREDIBLY small sample size Morales' 2013 stats are pretty skewed by his first and last relief appearances which were probably pretty heavily affected by his DL issues.

Yeah I was going to say based on Morales track record, and how strong he was last season, I would much rather have Franklin. Too bad he has been injured this season.

Last couple of years Morales has been a mid 90's guy, if he comes back as 90-91 like he was earlier this year then he might as well be a mop up guy.

FanGraphs says he was between 88-94mph. The low end may be weighted by his first appearance -- a spot start in which he was probably conserving energy. I'd guess the high end came when he was in the pen.

“@MaureenaMullen: Beato in Farrell's office with door closed. #RedSoxTalk”

The Red Sox bullpen is showing some cracks. Brandon Workman was hit hard in Houston on Tuesday and Britton has allowed three runs in his last three innings.

Pedro Beato was called into Farrell's office after the game. He's headed back to Pawtucket with Franklin Morales coming off the DL.Boston.com
