Tampa has to win there 4 games in hand to even match our record and even than, we own the tie breaker. I think Farrell realizes this and can spare a loss or two by filling the lineup card with bench players for a day or two.

He's shuffling the line-up more to get days off for players, than to fix the runs production, which has remained pretty constant.

Someone needs to teach Farrell when to take a pitcher out. Peavy should've given up multiple runs in the 5th if he hadn't gotten lucky on the double play. The ball was ripped for the 4th time in a row and it turned into two outs. At that point he had 90+ pitches.

Then Farrell sends him back out in the 6th to face a guy who has homered off of him already in Maxwell to lead off, and then all broke loose. Just because a starter hasn't thrown 115 pitches doesn't mean he can't come out of the game.

Farrell is a good clubhouse manager, but I'm definitely not too high on his ability to actually manage the game.

Why would Farrell put in Beato? Oh right, because we have a terrible BP.

Just like I said 1 month ago and everyone laughed at me, get ready for Contreras to be pitching the 8th inning and for us to resign Lyons to pitch the 7th.

Unbelivable we didn't do anything to shore up the BP at the deadline like Crain but even then Farrell would fail to take the SP out after 135 pitches. Oh well.

Middlebrooks hasn't appeared in the majors since June 25 and is batting .268/.327/.464 with 10 home runs over 45 games at the Triple-A level. With Brandon Snyder likely headed to the disabled list, he should be used in a platoon with Brock Holt at third base.

Farrell was taking out guys early - early on, and he almost killed his pen. Some days he's going to burn a starter and maybe a game to keep the pen together.

I'll take your word on it that Farrell may have been taking guys out early previously in the season. I don't remember. BUT I do agree that conceptually he's probably hanging with starters as long as he feels is possible to try to preserve the bullpen, and particularly the pen's best pitchers. He needs to get as many IP out of the starters as possible and sometimes that creates a perception that he stays with them too long.

Dempster to the pen when Clay gets back could help.

Market will be significant for Ellsbury. He is a top 3 FA. Remember the Red Sox foolishly gave Crawford 142M? Ellsbury will tops 100M easily. Starting next year each MLB team will see their national tv monies double from 25M to 50M, and additions to their local deals. Someone will want to make a splash. I think the Phillies will be after him. They need a splash for their market. The Mets will have to try to re-energizes too.

I hope we keep him for under 6 year. He probably have 3+ prime years left in him.

I don't want him resigned. He's still risky. His BABIP is over his career average and you can find a bat as good as his for LF for much cheaper while LF defense is limited here. JBJ isn't going to be Ellsbury right away, but with the small price we pay for him we can make up for it somewhere else.

Ellsbury will be a Chi Cub, he's Theo's baby.

Bradley Jr's history of having a high OBP will fit in very nicely in the leadoff spot. A JBJ walk will be just as productive as a speedy single from Jacoby, only it's going to cost multi millions less.

Ellsbury will be a Chi Cub, he's Theo's baby.

I haven't seen any strong evidence of this, and his budget is lower than when he was here. The Cubs won't be good for at least another two if not four years. Just in time for Ells decline...

I don't put much credence in minor league stats. JBJ had one year of extreme OBP - 2012 at .430. In his other years he's been: .325 and .379. Quite nice, but, not a guarantee. I don't see him leading off until his OBP is over .335 reliably.

Still, I'd rather JBJ at his salary than Ells at his. I wouldn't be surprised by JBJ if his first two years his slash was .245/.315/.365.

Royals are playing great baseball and we're not. Our rotation isn't looking very good lately.

Hard for the rotation to look good when you lose 3 of 4, but they weren't impressive vs Houston either so i guess this is a slump.

We need to take care of business these next 9 games. 3 each vs TOR, NYY and SF. Hoping for 7-2 or better.
