This is just a thread to talk about players who you liked watching, didn't have to be all stars but players you just enjoyed in general. Mainly talking about players who have been forgotten about.

I thought of this thread when I heard someone talking about Shareef Abdur-Rahim. I thought to myself, I totally forgot about this guy. He was a 20 and 10, or at least close to it most of the years of his career and was one of the best PF's in the game during his time.

In any case I'm just using him as an example.

Who are some forgotten players you would like to show some love to? Could be players that were just important to your franchise.

Great thread idea!
How about Jim Jackson? Dude played for nearly every single team in the Association and was a real scorer in his time. I think people got so used to him being all over the place that they never noticed when he faded out.

You're not kidding. He's one of those guys that always had a job but no team would commit to him long term. Without looking up his stats I remember him being a 20 ppg as well w/ decent rebounding and assist stats.

He did fade out.

Shareef Abdur-Rahim is a great one! Loved hearing the announcer say his name on 1996 NBA Courtside (kobe cover one) every time he made a bucket.

For me it's gotta b Kerry Kittles and Keith Van Horn. They were my favorite Nets when I started following basketball for the first time (pre-Kidd). No, I didn't like Marbury.

Watch out now they'll be coming for you

the only player in history to play with dleague players and fringe overseas starters and get it confused with playing with 1st all nba players

the only player to be forced to shoot 25-30x a game because he inherited players who combined to avg a total of like 6ppg before teaming up with IVERSON

how in the hell would any legendary player fare with 2 players who combined for 6ppg and asked to go to war with for 7 long years as his core unit?

I few that come to mind that I didn't see mentioned

Danny Manning - Put up some solid seasons on some weak teams. Never really got a chance to prove himself on a better team because of injury.

Greg Ostertag - Is remembered mostly for being unable to take advantage of the Bulls weak frontcourt because he was offensively inept. He was a decent centre overall though.

Old Grant Hill - A lot of people forget just how good he was. His game was like a LeBron-Lite where he could do everything on the court exceptionally well.

Ron Harper - Had some great individual seasons on weaker teams. Took a role player role for the Bulls.

Michael Ray Richardson - Only played a couple years before his lifetime ban because of drug use. He played before my time but looking at his stats he could of had a great career if not for drugs. Check out his stats for steals especially crazy.

Antonio mcdyess, dude was money early in his career and then just fell off after injuries sapped his athleticism. He averaged 20/12/2 before missing an entire year and was really never the same

Also raef lefrentz too, stretch 5 before that was even a thing. And he wasnt a bad rebounder for someone playing away from the basket. Production wise he wasnt more than a role player, but his game combined with his size made him someone i wanted in LAL next to shaq, at least when he was playing good and relatively healthy.

Micheal Ray. Good to see somebody else give him some notice. Still coaching in Europe I believe.

Dick Barnett, Dave Stallworth, Toby Knight, Marvin Webster. Spencer Haywood. Even Bob McAdoo, Bill Bradley, and Earl the Pearl Monroe are too overlooked. Rolando Blackman, Kiki Vandeweghe.

Elvin Hayes gets too much of a bad rap. Dennis Johnson isn't sufficiently remembered. Dave Cowens. Gus Williams. Lots of guys.

Nobody likes my Michael Finley suggestion? People forget the guy put up a 20 ppg over 5 straight seasons and was a top tier SG for a couple of those years?

Didn't see it but I was gonna post it and had second thoughts because of the way he finished his career a champion and playing in some high profile series with the Spurs.

I use Michael Finley all the time as the exception to my theory that former stars have an awfully difficult time molding into quality low usage role players who need to find ways to make an impact on limited touches.

Not as much fun watching Z & Lebron in Miami.I guess? Wasn't he only there for one season before hanging it up? I don't know; the duo just grew on me, I guess. They lost a lot of games, but they were always on because I had their channel.

Fair point, just thought this thread was more about forgotten players as in people don't mention them. You and I appreciate him but oddly enough people never talk about Finley or how good he was around here. I actually miss him, Stackhouse and others now that I think about it.

I'm late to party has anybody said Dejaun Wagner of the Cavs?

I'm sure Jay Williams has been said hard to forget him given he's on the panel @ ESPN but had he not gotten hurt he was going to be a great PG.

Melvin Levvit & Steve Logan were guys I'll always remember from Cincinatti. Those guys torched my local Marquette teams. Logan looked a lot like DMX & Levvitt was one helluva dunker!

Mitch Ritchmond? Was on cover of Live 97 but because he played for Kings is easily forgotten.

Keith Van Horn, Michael Finley, Mark Price?, Steve Francis. Bryant "Big Country" Reeves, Hersey Hawkins, Detlepf Shrempf, Rik Smits

I think some forget how good Mike Bibby & Jason Williams used to be. Could also throw how great Grant Hill/Tmac were for the younger generation that don't remember them being great.

Is Horace Grant forgotten? He and his goggles were interesting.

Few talk about Clyde the glyde.

I'd also like to add Mutumbo and former Maryland stars Laron Profit and Juan Dixon.

Perhaps in 10-15 years we'll be saying Amare. Guy will be forgotten for how good he really used to be.

Mason was hilarious. He would go coast to coast, and just throw down anyone who tried to swipe the ball from him, looking so out of balance

He had one of the most awkward free throw motions too if I'm remembering correctly. He would start the motion and then just before most people would release the ball he would kind of just stop and hold that pose. I remember he would get people to step into the lane on his attempts fairly often because of it.

Cutino Mobley!

Booom this is what happened to Mobley. he got traded to the Knicks from the Clippers in 2008, during his physical the knicks medical staff found out that "HE HAD A HEART PROBLEM" and if he continues to play he can drop dead on the court. He thanked the knicks at the time, then retired. Like 2 years ago he filed a lawsuit against the Knicks claiming that they ruined his career.

He retired as a Knick, but he did not play a single game for the team.
