Just wondering what kind of interest there would be if Bogut and/or Iggy were to do an appearance where they sign autographs and take photos with fans? Would be a paying event in the Bay Area where you have to buy tickets and all.

Trying to gauge the desire for something like that, though Iguodala may be further down the road so he can establish himself with the team and the fan base.

Thoughts? Thanks!

I noticed it on a co-worker's breakfast receipt and was just amazed. A few years ago Burger King had a double cheeseburger for $1.29 and a hamburger was $1.12 ... so a "meat" patty and 2 slices of cheese are $0.17 ... but a Whopper to Whopper with cheese had a difference of $0.64. Logic does not apply in fast food prices.

The McDonalds McDouble is is the cheapest, most nutritious, and bountiful food that has ever existed in human history in that for under $2 you get a large portion of your daily food requirements.

Ok this is getting a bit ridiculous. YOu guys are comparing the price of 2 items and not assuming any standardized price per order- or flat cost.

Pretty muxch regardless of what burger you order-
BK has to pay the cashier, pay the person at the grill,
pay the person mopping the floor,
pay for the 25+ burgers that are damaged, dropped , burnt, get sneezed on etc each day
pay to process the debit or credit card payment or pay for the cash to be transported,
pay for the people training,
pay for the workers comp insurance,
taxes for each employee paid,
future marketing campaigns, profit margin etc.

So lets assume there is a flat fee of 70 cents for any type of Hamburger made, then the difference between a Burger and a double cheeseburger is something like .37 vs .59... that would probably be a more realistic way of looking at it.

BTW- Im aware that on some occasions it might be possible to get a burger for UNDER that flat cost (which was an estimate btw). In those cases BK is selling the burger at a loss (likely to drive up business in through other purchases (fries, drinks, chicken sandwiches, onion rings, etc)

I assumed they were selling them as a loss leader.

I find it amazing that BK and McDs can sell a double cheese burger for $1 at all ... the beef often comes from other countries, transportation alone of the meat, the pickles, the cheese, the bun, the condiments, and the packaging probably come close to the $1 price, then add the actual cost to produce the products, and the lease for the space, maintenance, labor to assemble the food, the labor to deliver it to the customer. $1 is amazing. Last time I figured it out if I subsisted on nothing more than bulk beans and rice (which are nice) and cooking at home it would cost me more than 3 times as much on a daily basis as eating at McDonalds if I limited my self to the McDouble. I find that frankly amazing.

I also find it amazing I can buy an alarm clock online for $1.25 total delivered to my house.

Ahhh- my point for the price differential on 2 items was that the portion of the price that covers the cost of the actual food is probably less than 1/3 of what the customer pays. Most of the other 2/3 is probably a fixed cost.

as for the alarm clock- its prob been sitting in a wearhouse for 8 yrs and they are eating the loss just to clear space for inventory they can actually turn over.

Actually the alarm clocks are new and made in china in probably horrible working conditions. The shipping is free, I'm told, because we have a reciprocal agreement with foreign postal services that if they get a parcel to our shore our postal service will deliver to the address for free in return for the same treatment the other way. What China does is tell their manufacturers that if they get the product to several terminals that the government pays to get the product here thus shipping from China is free to Chinese companies who have that government agreement and subsidized by our taxes once it gets here.

So back to the proper use of quotes...

Woooosh

I know what wikipedia can do better than public schools.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satire

Teach people things.

"A common feature of satire is strong irony or sarcasm—"in satire, irony is militant"[2]—but parody, burlesque, exaggeration,[3] juxtaposition, comparison, analogy, and double entendre are all frequently used in satirical speech and writing. This "militant" irony or sarcasm often professes to approve of (or at least accept as natural) the very things the satirist wishes to attack."

That's why it's call satire. I know I am misrepresenting people's views. Still, it's not as much as an exaggeration as the people I satirized believe.

This is what I imagine a particular person saying, no names of course.

"What the **** is satire and why you using quotes wrong stupid? Damn, just damn."

I know you do, and so do I.

But what doesnt change is the fact that you're a numbers guy. Barring a confession from you about pretending to just like stats to troll us, I think you really are a numbers guy in real life, and believe in advanced stats. That having been said, it's to my knowledge that mass media in general is not supposed to be bias (even though we know it is). I don't know how you'll gain readership just be professing stats and shoving it down peoples throats. Those aren't just forum heads reading and they can think.

However, if they want you to just preach that, then it's a different story.

Oh no way... so she must have left a few years ago then. That is if I'm assuming correctly you're talking about the Roche buyout like 3 years ago? I currently work there (only for about 15 months)... but looking as if I will be working at Bio-Rad within the coming weeks. :D

She stayed after the Roche buy out. My mom had been there since like '98 so she had a lot of shares, I mean a **** ton. Parents remodeled the house they live in and bought 2 more with all of that money and all during the down economy. Right when my mom moved to Onyx rumors circulated about Pfizer potentially buying them out. Share prices jumped from 80 to 135 in a matter of hours.

And congrats dude! Roche is a great company, but there are always other biotech companies willing to pay Roche employees top dollar to pry them away!

Congrats man! Grad school next?

Couple years in the finance world and then MBA . Trying to get into a top school. I have a 3.5 GPA and I'm currently interning with a Top 10 Finance internship in the nation in which I'm essentially full-time seeing as I have my own clients and about to graduate. They'll look and have talked to me about converting full-time upon graduation.

I've been interviewing a lot at top firms for jobs for after graduation as well. Last place I interviewed at we talked about 60 base and then around 80 with commissions+bonuses. Health, dental, AND vision covered. Oh and the real kicker. 50%..yes 50% match on your 401k. ****ing ridiculous. Find out this week if they'll extend the offer.

And then hopefully grad school. I'm also planning on having all my investing licenses and a CFA. I want to see if I can squeeze into an executive MBA program with all of that plus my track record. We'll see though.

I have a lot of big plans, but I like where I'm at.

Most Iranians like being called Persian anyway and introduce themselves as Persians because of the rich history the name carries as well as the fact that it sounds better. Then Middle Eastern would be a more appropriate term rather than Persians. Although, Persians ethnically are Indo-European and have never historically been associated with the Middle East. Also, just for good measure people from the Middle East are considered Caucasian, doesn't really have much to do with what I'm commenting about haha.

I guess Mexicans and Canadians might as well be Americans because they're in the same region and it makes it easier. Or are we all just North Americans? ALL THESE DAMN SEMANTICS

By default he'd have to say he's white so I don't really understand what your point is...if he doesn't want to say he's Armenian then he'd say what that he's Russian? If that's the case he's still white.

White, black, etc. all CONSTRUCTS OF OUR IMAGINATIONS. THESE IDEAS DIDN'T EXIST UNTIL ABOUT 700 years ago lol

One of my old professors (who is 'white' as well wrote this and I kept his post in a file) here's what he said, but I won't be surprised if some don't agree

The problem with the language of racial reconciliation is that it typically accepts as a given that race exists. But the construct of race is a product of the Western-world invention of the modern “human being.” In his magisterial book Prophesy Deliverance, Dr. Cornel West describes the formation of the “normative gaze” as the fusion of three historical moments in modernity; the scientific revolution represented by Galileo and Bacon, the philosophical revolution represented by Descartes, and the renaissance recovery of the classic aesthetic.

In short, science gave Europeans great confidence in their ability to rationally understand the laws of the universe, and how the world works; philosophy gave them the confidence that they could rationally reproduce the natural laws of the world within society, and all social interactions in the pursuit of truth, and the Greek aesthetic gave them the physical template by which to visually determine ideal body types (ideal humanity). Hence, from modernity we were given scientific, and philosophical validation for structuring human beings according to the aesthetic of classic, white European bodies (African bodies, for example, would look tremendously different than the Adonis, or Aphrodite greek aesthetic). Figures like Renaissance man Leonardo Da Vinci’s 15th century “Vitruvian Man” became symbolic of the ideal human being. That was ideal, and all other humanity was derivative, of that ideal.

Enlightenment naturalists like the German Johann Friedrich Blumenbach, and botanists like the Swedish Carl Linnaeus helped to classify plants, animals, and human beings--arranging the world scientifically, and rationally into various types. They were working to legitimate a process of racial acknowledgement that was already in practice with the age of discovery. It was Linnaeus who gave to the world the term Homo Sapiens in his groundbreaking book Systema Naturae (Natural Systems). Linnaeus introduced the Linnaean Taxonomy, a rank-based scientific classification of living organisms. His taxonomy described 5 types of human beings categorized according to skin color and land of origin: the Americanus, the Asiaticus, the Africanus, the Europeanus, and the Monstrosus. His work was the nascent stage of the scientific language of race, and it required a very active and creative imagination. According to Linnaeus, each race contained innate character traits. Americanus was copper-colored or red skinned, obstinate, and without content. Stubborn of character, angered easily, his clothing was paint and he was governed by customs. Asiaticus was sooty, melancholy and rigid. Some accounts of the taxonomy say yellow skinned, easily distracted, haughty and covetous, covered with loose garments, and governed by opinions. Europeanus was fair-skinned people, sanguine and brawny, blue eyed, gentle of character, intellectually inventive, covered with close vestments, and governed by laws. Africanus was black-skinned, with a relaxed, phlegmatic disposition, black frizzled hair, silky skin and a flat nose; they were crafty, indolent, (lazy), and negligent. Like the red-skinned types, Africanus was not described as wearing clothing; they merely anoint themselves with grease, and are governed by caprice. Finally the monstrous types were the most obviously folklore. Monstrous was described as mountain-dwelling, four-footed, hairy wild men, like the Yeti, Sasquatch, or dwarves.

This race rhetoric worked as the foundation for understanding human beings wherever the reach and influence of modern European Empires could be felt. Linnaeus didn’t invent the rhetoric; he and other notable Enlightenment intellectuals endorsed it. Linnaeus added scientific validation to the visually perceived differences that explorers had already recorded in their “discoveries” of what became defined as indigenes peoples. The “normative gaze” sought to stabilize the identity of Europeanus over and against the dark-skinned people they were encountering in the “new lands.” The trans-Atlantic slave trade is evidence of the power of the invented narrative of race.

IMHO: MANY ARABS WOULDN'T ACCEPT THE CLAIM OF WHITE, BLACK OR ANYTHING BECAUSE THIS IS A WESTERN IDEAL PRECIPITATED BY WESTERNERS TO ARGUE THE LEGITIMACY OF THE SLAVE TRADE. (Arabs also participated in African slave trade but not because of race)

(NOT TRYING TO GO OFF ON A TANGENT, I KNOW ESAADY DIDN'T MEAN ANYTHING BY HIS STATEMENT BUT I JUST HOUGHT ID SHARE THIS ENLIGHTENING THEOLGCAL AND HITORICAL PERSPECTIVE ON RACE)

I am not going to read it, but I will assume what it's saying. Biologically, there is no such thing as race. Which I completely agree with. Is that the gist?

Exactly. the write up is good though, you could hypothetically read it but I think you got the gist

The writer compares the creation of racial identity to other scientific revolutions around the same time such as botany.

Giving any power to racial identity imo is openly accepting the racist stereotypes that were originally created

I'll read that when I get to my laptop. I've studied Orientalism and I've read Edward Said. I've studied a lot about this topic. I'm just talking about in terms of college apps and SAT and other standardized testing there labels set on people and under these labels Arabs are technically no different than Norsemen.

The main reason as to why Arabs are considered white is because European Christians want and need Jesus to be white. There's a lot of crazy stuff because of religion. We all know that hahah

I see the college apps reference absolutely. I frankly don't get that identification and it actually hurts middle easterners since they're a minority demographic.

The Jesus claim is absolutely true. It also gives legitimacy of claiming the entire OT as well since many now believe that Jews are also classified as white. Even though the OT Jews were much closer related to Arabs than to Euorpeans.

Yup, agree wholeheartedly!

A lot of Middle Eastern people apply as "other" as a form of silent protest.

Exactly. Same with Aryan people in northern India, Afghanistan, Pakistan, etc, etc. On standardized tests, they have a White / Caucasian and then East Indian. WTF? lol.

Indians are Caucasians. They aren't a separate thing.

Not yet, unfortunately, but soon.

I let her drive my car and she almost drove into on coming traffic. She didn't so it's cool because I have a story to tell people now.

I'm tired of the boxes. Ticking them only supports the B.S labels.

Only if you ever use stereotypes themelves. I use race and ethnicity to describe how people look. I literally have no stereotype about any kind of person based on their race. It's easy not to.

The boxes are unnecessary, there's no reason you should have to tick what race you are on a job application, it's just another way to categorise people.

Just my opinion.

I know you're joking but during an interview that's definitely correct. It isnt always 100% fair or accurate, but judging an applicant by how they dress to an interview is far more telling about how good of a canidate they are than what box they check.

so if they wear a white shirt with a black tie, it means they are super conservative?

That's a little bit simple and old fashion, and obviously it depends on the company and industry you work for (Also this is one form of evaluating a candidate- not the only way to do it)

white shirt and black tie is..... ehh like 30-40 yrs old to evaluate someone.

Youd look to see if

they wore a suit, (or slacks and a blazer)
if they wore a tie at all.
What type of design on the tie.

if the suit was flat front or pleaded
if they buttoned up the jacket
if they left the bottom button unbuttoned (which they should)
def no white socks with a suit or slacks

I'll check out his channel.
