This guy has barely lost any athleticism at all. I'm actually wondering why so

He's lost athleticism. He might be able to throw down, but he's lost quite a bit of speed. Doesn't have at all that first step. And those dunks are solid and all, but he's not getting the lift he once did.

I haven't seen much of him since he left ORL, I'll admit that, but when he was there he didn't look at all like his old self.

Last season he was making great dunks all over the place, not surprised here.

He can still throw down really well, especially at his age, but he is not what he used to be (he missed a windmill in). He doesn't get as high as be used to and lost a step or two. But he is, without a doubt, the best dunker of all time (dunk contest and in game). He and AI were the reasons I started watching the NBA to begin with.

Based on that video, it looks like he has lost about 6 to 7 inches off of his vertical.

There is no shame in that though. He is 35+ years old. But he has definitely lost lift. His head use to be even or above the rim at his peak when doing dunks.

And as ManRam said, athleticism isn't all about vertical leap. He is much slower and his first step is no where near what it used to be.

He has become a very respectable role player though.

I barely remember that.

This.

Isn't this from the past season too? He had some better in game dunks than these last season so this is sort of random.
Still very impressive. Just hard to like it when you compare it to his 2000 circa dunks. Because those will blow you away always and forever

I am 37. Um, he has lost a ton of athletic ability. doesn't mean his isn't ahead of most the population

Throws down very well for his age, but he's 10% of what he used to be.

His PRIME dunks were UNREAL (his head was always above the rim) but age catches up to everyone.

Show yourself with that **** PSD comment! :p

Regardless, still dunk better than blake griffin

He's lost some 6-8" off of his vertical. He probably still has a 35" vertical, which is still impressive, but far removed from his prime.

Uh, no. He's lost around 7" from his vertical. 42 - 7 = 35. 7/42 = 16.7%.

Vince Carter is 6'7" in shoes and has a standing reach of 8'11" (only 13 inches from the rim). Those warm up dunks are nothing exceptional.

I see lots of kids now days in the league getting their heads at the rim. But back in the day, in the early 2000s seeing a dude get his head above the rim was CRAZY. It was so exciting to see Vince in his prime and the way he'd carry himself like it's no big deal he just did something what we thought a human could not do

If I were vince, I would train with world class sprinters in the offseason. His vertical is still very respectable an probably in the top 15% Still. He has lost a ton of his hops though. With better speed and quickness he would still be a pretty athletic guy and hard to guard.

Early 2000s there were a lot of really good dunkers. Since then there's been a big decline.

Ya there was a ton. You'd think players would continue to become more and more athletic with time. I think the early 2000s was the peak for that..possibly a peak for a lot of things in the world. I just see a decline all over with players now days.
