not sure why they finally decided now was the time. it's not gonna help them in FA right now, is it? not saying they shouldn't have at all...just seems almost pointless at this juncture. unless they have something up their sleaves.

Honestly, he's hard to watch at times because he's a guy who doesn't really always know his limitations as a player, but he belongs back home before riding off into the sunset. I don't think anything stings worse than passing on him for Frederic ****ing Weis and Knick fans went thru hell and back during those years. I want him on the roster for the interviews alone.

How has he been the last couple of years? I know everyone talked about how terrible he was but, I feel like that could have been because of his contract and being forced to start. Would he still be a serviceable backup wing? Or even a good/great backup wing? And I thought I read he was changing his name again?

He's terrible on offense. No question about that. Defensively he's a lot slower, but he can guard PF's really well.

You don't have to guard him ever, which is a benefit for opposing defenses

lol so he's not clearing waivers and can't come to NY or MIA but SA will be able to take a chance on him? As if they are not over the cap as well?

I think he'll clear, teams under the cap likely will pass, he'll become an UFA and I see him coming to NY.

the Lakers are going to be the worst defensive team in league history. They have a coach that don't give a crap about defense. And they do not have one decent defensive player on the entire roster. Maybe Jordan Hill but other than that nobody. This is going to be awesome!

I would guess that either:

1) They'll try to trade him at the deadline to a contender or as a giant expiring

2) They may want to re-sign Gasol and don't want to alienate him and Kobe

Not sure you understand how amnesty works, Lakers still have to pay him $7m.

I can't think of any amnestied player that cleared waivers that DIDN'T take the vet min.

That's how the Nets get Blatche for the vet min, Knicks got Davis at the vet min two years ago also.

He is still a decent defender the same as Battier, but age has caught up to them both. You can't put them on the elite players anymore.

I understand how the amnesty works. Blatche had a horrible year previous to the Nets signing him. Meanwhile, when the Knicks signed Davis, he had a herniated disk in his back, and didn't make his debut until mid February.

Those are completely different situations from this. Good try, good effort.

it makes more sense to trade pau for expirings and assets before the trade deadline. he's got refurbished knees and he's going to be focal point of the post, he's going to have a resurgence and his best year since 2010. i think they'll let his value rise and trade him, or just let him come off the books after this year.

I would leverage Pau for young talent and/or future draft picks. It would be silly to let him go for nothing, since there are teams that see value in Pau. At least more teams than there are that want Metta.

Missed in all of this, sadly, is that Nash will probably retire without winning a ring. Can't wait to hear his Hall of Fame speech.

There has not been one player who has been amnestied and cleared waivers that got more than the vet min. They are receiving their full salary anyway so it doesn't matter. The issue is whether he'll clear waivers not if he'll sign for the vet min. Even the players that have been picked up before they cleared weren't with the new teams for much money.

Yes, Kobe, MWP made that 3 pointer against Boston, but good lord, he could've easily missed and a fast break later, LA would've been in trouble. I'd take a 40 foot 3 from you, Kobe, instead of an otherwise errant 3 by Metta World Brick.

Might be the most prime example of a: "no, no, no.....YES!!!!!!" shot in NBA history.

I don't think people realize how bad we'll be defensively next year. We're giving up 120 a game and I love it.

Tank it baby

Yeah sure if you were saying this earlier in season when you knew DWIGHT wasn't signing back then maybe you'd shake the 'play both sides of the fence' technique and maybe your words would carry a ounce of weight

you and any other fien do not want the lakers to tank because im telling you right now that ORLANDO will land that no.1 pick, the owner will bet DISNEY on it

K. Malone is a better center than Howard, and he didn't even play center

DUNCAN is a better PF than MALONE and they listed him as 'versatile' on draft night scouting report, he was a hybrid day1 or was he more C?

really? Metta loves la. Bulls, griz, okc indy are way better fits than Miami. What Miami going to do with yet another sf one that cant spread the floor at that.

Do you really think Miami cares about positions? They had Battier at PF and Wade at SF for a duration of the season.

Doesn't matter. If he clears waivers we wants to play for the Knicks and the Knicks want him.

So only things that matter are:

1. Will he get amnestied?
2. Will he clear waivers?

Oh well, any team could use him. Still above average defender and could always use someone with that kind of energy.

Only teams under the cap can put in a waiver. Artest has already let it be known that he would probably retire if claimed by a non-contender. Only team under the cap that I could see him playing with would be Dallas and even that is not a certainty.

Not yet. Teams can amnesty players starting on the 10th, so tomorrow.

Lakers are dumb. You have a 30mill player who has a torn Achilles that is in his mid thirties and you want to rebuild. Should've amnestied Kobe.

lol, please
