@WojYahooNBA: Sacramento is offering free agent Andre Iguodala a four year, approximately $56 million contract, league sources tell Y! Sports.

Doesn't seem too ridiculous to me. Realistically, we have to overpay a bit to get him out of Denver. He more than fills a huge need at SF and helps facilitate our offense, too.

Later Iggy hope the Nuggets don't match that!!

Supposedly Nuggets offering him 5 year 63 mill deal. Honestly, I think that's too much for him as it is.

He's not a restricted free agent. 14 mil a year is ridiculous

Eh, who is their coach again? Can he make this work?

And is Evans staying or going to the Pelicans?

Awful for the Kings if this is true. They aren't in contention (and won't be). Why even think about Iggy?

I think he means match as in Iggy would likely choose Denver over Sac if the money is the same.

Right. $14M/yr is probably more than he's worth, but I don't think we have any chance of attracting him to sign with us unless we overpay, and I don't think 14 is that much more than he'd get elsewhere anyway. If we want him, this is what we have to do to stand a chance at getting him.

ZOMG!! Kings R sOoO stupd! Is this offer even legal?

Don't they know they can develop there young talent without any decent vets that know about play making and defense. Not to mention they can obviously just sign one of the many stars lining up to play for Sacramento for way cheaper, even at like a discount (a la miami).

Not sure why people are overreacting so much to this figure. In terms of cost effective contracts, this isn't that far off for what Iguodala provides in terms of production.

The Kings want to add a veteran with a balanced game who can help to develop their young (some toxic) players and allow them to learn how to win.

Iggy would be a great fit in all honesty. We need distributing and defense, Iggy brings that. Would still need to make a couple more moves though obviously.

I'm a believer in Evans potential as a defender now that we have a defensive-minded coach, plus Iggy and Tyreke are very similar offensively, and Tyreke is significantly younger, so if I'm picking one over the other, I'd probably stick with Tyreke and try to use the $ saved elsewhere. The only problem being that we desperately need a SF and have a lot of guards as is. If we kept Tyreke, we'd probably be trying to trade Thornton or Isaiah.

Iggy brings us a lot of value as a veteran presence, too, though.

Would still do the Bynum trade just to get rid of him. I hated him so much. He is a very good player but a moron who wanted to be and shoot like a star. Watching him brick instead of attack was always infuriating. Late game shots always equated to misses and losses.

If Denver is offering him 63 over 5, it'll be hard to see him not take that. It likely won't get another big contract and Denver will be competing at the high end of the west for a good part of that contract.

If McLemore plays like he has the potential to, adding Cousins' elite center status and you have a legit team.

Yeah its gamble, it could go bad or good but its better than just sitting there. The Rockets got the same criticism when we offered Asik & Lin that extra money and giving Harden that max deal. But those moves got us over the hump and we reached the playoffs.

Even then he doesn''t fit a need as Iggy would. Of course he is more proven then Ben, but I would've been contempt with running Thomas - Ben - Iggy - Thompson - Cousins.

Now we have to move Ben to the bench, or Reke to PG.

I'm thinking we should go after Kirilenko at SF or look for a trade. and I'm totally fine with Tyreke at point if Malone is:

Tyreke/Isaiah/Jimmer
Thornton/McLemore(until he's ready)
AK47/Salmons
JT/Patterson
Cousins/Hayes

small market teams have learned nothing. but what else are they supposed to do, just not sign anyone?

the fact is, there are too many teams. there aren't 25+ legitimate max players in the NBA (however non max players get nearly max deals almost every off-season), and in an era where some of the best teams have 2-3 max players, it leaves teams like SAC SOL, and relegated to offering contracts like this. the NBA would be a better league with four or six less teams. not saying it should be the kings- just in principal.

Agreed. There should also be less games. Around 60 games sounds right, maybe even 50 if you wanted to get real aggressive. NBA is quantity over quality.

Well, it was added to the thread title after the offer was retracted...

But it's basically the only option us small market teams have. Then a core of Ben - Iggy - Cousins could look interesting to other FA's, which may just bring them to Sacramento

Idk about 6 less teams, but 4 less teams seem ideal to me. Teams to retract would be:

1) Charlotte
2) Minnesota
3) Milwaukee and a surprise to many:
4) Indiana

The Pacers are routinely awful in terms of filling up the stadium, even when they have a legitimate threat for the Eastern Conference. I don't think Charlotte needs an explanation, nor Milwaukee/Minnesota.

The conferences imo should break down like this
Eastern Conference
Miami Heat
Orlando Magic
New York Knicks
Brooklyn Nets
Boston Celtics
Philadelphia 76ers
Washington Wizards
Chicago Bulls
Detroit Pistons
Cleveland Cavaliers
Toronto Raptors
Atlanta Hawks
Memphis Grizzlies

Western Conference
Portland Trail Blazers
Golden State Warriors
Sacramento Kings
Los Angeles Clippers
Los Angeles Lakers
Phoenix Suns
Utah Jazz
Oklahoma City Thunder
San Antonio Spurs
Dallas Mavericks
Houston Rockets
Denver Nuggets
New Orleans Pelicans

It's sad because Indiana used to a basketball state until Peyton Manning was drafted.

Does that mean those guys would go into the draft, though? Paul George, Hibbert, Love, Rubio, Sanders, added too the already strong 2014 draft. That'd be one hell of a draft
