Pelicans linked with Andre Iguodala

According to Yahoo! Sports Marc Spears the New Orleans Pelicans are strongly interested in F Andre Iguodala. The free-agent swing-man is camped in California waiting for executives to make their pitch to him. This would be a tremendous fit for an organisation looking to fill-out their core. This would indicate that Eric Gordon is still involved in the Pelicans plans for the future.

Pelicans strongly interested in signing free agent forward Andre Iguodala to join old Sixers teammate Jrue Holiday, sources tell Y! Sports.

New Orleans May or May Not Be Meeting with Tyreke Evans

There are some conflicting reports out there that Tyreke Evans and the New Orleans Pelicans will be meeting together. However it is clear that the organisation IS interested in the G/F who last played for Sacramento. Evans is a restricted free-agent so any offer can be matched by the Kings. However Sacramento appears unwilling to match beyond a certain point.
According the TNT’s David Aldridge the Pelicans are set to meet with Evans with a substantial offer-sheet.

Pelicans will have a face to face with Tyreke Evans tonight after free agency commences at 12:01 AM ET, ESPN has learned
— Marc Stein (@ESPNSteinLine) July 1, 2013

Source close to Tyreke Evans adamant he is not meeting with Pelicans or any other team tonight. This is fun.
— Jason Jones (@mr_jasonjones) July 1, 2013

As @ESPNSteinLine reported, Pelicans will meet with Tyreke Evans late tonight. Told they will have an offer sheet in hand–a big one.
It appears that while the Pelicans will offer Evans a significant contract that he will take his time in making his decision according to Marc Spears. Kings still in the mix.

While NO will make big offer tonight, sources close to SAC Tyreke Evans say he will do his due diligence with long list & Kings still in mix
— Marc J. Spears (@SpearsNBAYahoo) July 1, 2013

Pelicans and Others Very Interested in Chase Budinger

It seems that New Orleans’ options are not limited to one player. According to Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski New Orleans is aggressive in its pursuit for the small-forward.

The Timberwolves,*Milwaukee Bucks*and New Orleans Pelicans have made his signing a priority, and several teams have secondary interest, including Utah, Indiana and Memphis, front-office sources told Y! Sports.
The T’wolves and Pelicans need his shooting, and plan to be aggressive suitors for Budinger, league sources said.
Budinger is coming off a significant injury that kept him out of most of the 2012-13 NBA Season

New Orleans might go after Kevin Martin

We have always known about Dell Demps’ infactuation with scoring guards, especially Kevin Martin. It comes as no surprise that the Pelicans will be linked to the guard this free-agent. According to Yahoo! Sports’ Marc Spears (again awesome coverage from he and Woj) New Orleans, OKC, Milwaukee, Dallas and Detroit are all going after him.

Thunder G Kevin Martin expected to get interest from OKC, Milwaukee, New Orleans, Minnesota, Dallas and Detroit, source tells Y! Sports.
— Marc J. Spears (@SpearsNBAYahoo) June 30, 2013
Martin is a very efficient scorer and a player who can fill a role for a team lacking in that department. The issue for Martin has always been injuries. Can he stay healthy? Last season he did just that and so his value is on the rise.
This is more interesting of what it might say about Eric Gordon. Does this indicate that Dell is going to move ahead with his plans regardless of Gordon’s trade value? I guess it makes sense, but could display more pessimism about his situation.

Chris Copeland and New Orleans Linked

According the the New York Post’s Marc Berman the Pelicans appear to be connected to Knicks forward Chris Copeland.

According to an NBA source, the newly named New Orleans Pelicans are planning to make a strong bid for the 6-foot-9 sniper as they are well under the salary cap and can make an offer that will blow Knicks owner James Dolan out of the water.
Copeland, a 28 year old rookie, expanded his role in New York which saw him as a 3-point specialist who could add an offensive rebounding presence. It would appear that the Pelicans would utilize Copeland as a bench player who could space the floor.

I'm sorry to break the news to everyone, but it's pretty much inevitable that Howard won't sign with Houston. Howard seemed like he hated playing for the LAL, he never got the "lead" role and had to deal with lots of unwarranted criticism from LAL fans. Houston is a much better place for him. Parsons can actually hit threes, Harden is unselfish, and they are a young team. LAL is an old roster. Not to mention LAL has a mediocre coach who still doesn't understand how to utilize the team. Steve Nash needs to retire. Too old, brings the ball up and then does a pointless pick and roll.

I wouldn't say Monta is a "role" player. He's certainly better than that. Terrible fit with Melo. It'll be even worse if Knicks resign Smith. 3 players who just don't know when to stop shooting. Assist numbers are going to be so down, it would've made Stockton look useless.

I think Mayo would rather take the 7mil. He wants to make more money. That's why he opted out of his contract to begin with. If that's what he does, you couldn't really blame him. This may be his last big contract. He is not that good. He is overrated in defense. I don't know why a lot of people think he is an above average defender. On offense, he needs to be a first option, have the ball in his hands most of the time and be a chucker to be effective. Don't get me wrong, he is not selfish like some players but the problem is that that is his type of game. If he tries to deviate from it and play unselfishly, he turns the ball over a lot.

If you guys don't get him, don't worry, its going to be good for your team.

Gordon has wanted to leave N.O. before. He signed an offer sheet for Phoenix and was asked to be traded last year. Plus I see Reke being most successful at SG.

For the time being it will be Reke in a manu type roll off the bench with high minutes... Gordon will probably be moved at some point. they want to try these 3 and see how it goes. Expensive backcourt but we shall see

No. Trade Gordon to my Bulls for Deng. Better defender and (reasonably) healthier. Also is an expiring for cap flexibility :D

Dwight Howard headed to the Houston Rockets

And according to a few reports, Houston and Atlanta are working on a sign and trade deal for Josh Smith.

All of a sudden, the Rockets may be heavy favorites in the Western Conference. Either way, we all know which conference is gonna be the fun one to watch this year again..

Okay so now here comes some new updates that just completely baffle me.

According to SportsCenter and Alex Kennedy, Dwight has now backed off on his decision to join Houston, and is now on a flight for L.A. to speak to GM Mitch Kupchak. He told the Lakers now reportedly that he is 50-50 on his decision to stay or go. But its gonna be either L.A. or Houston.

@AlexKennedyNBA

In other NBA news, I'm hearing that Paul Millsap is in serious talks with the Atlanta Hawks. Trying to confirm and get terms.

Hmmm, maybe he will come off the bench and have a big man rotation of Horford/Asik with Millsap? I can't see this as Horford staying at center so Millsap must be a rotational big man. This would be a stacked frontcourt in the East.

Please.. Kobe>Chandler+Stat+JR+Felton. You have a guy who gets it done in the playoffs and a team of injured/foolish/childish players. Chandler is the only one on the NYK who seems to want to win. Not even Melo looks like he cares.

What's the Josh Smith market now? Hawks with Millsap I doubt want Asik for Smith. Houston may deal Asik to NO for Ryan Anderson. So that leaves?? Dallas, Boston, Detroit?

I think Dallas only has like 10 mil left now so they might be out of it.Right now the only teams with 12mil+ should be Detroit,Cleveland and Philly but I might be wrong.I guess the sign and trade field is still large though.

Don't forget the NBA cap is not a hard cap - a team can go over (not saying they will) and be subject to the luxury tax and repeat offender tax if they choose - see Brooklyn Nets

You can only go over in specific circumstances though. It's not like any team can just decide to go over and sign Smith.

Tyreke Evans is a great signing for the Pelicans. Now they have a scorer that can take over games and provide leadership for this young team. Along with Gordon to spread the floor, it will open the paint for Davis to score off the post. Like the new unis that goes with the name.

The bigger story is how he announced the deal in the first place:

Chris Broussard ‏@Chris_Broussard 50m
Mark Bartelstein announces Will Bynum agrees to deal with Detroit

His biggest problem at this point is that he just says 'sources' for everything as if he has some inside knowledge, when often times he's just relaying the mass texts that everyone is getting. If he starts using names and 'xyz has announced that...', etc, instead of trying to make himself important by saying 'sources' then he becomes a lot less embarrassing.
