Upon listening to local radio this afternoon, the radio hosts on 98.5 Boston, said the C's have a sign and trade in place, assuming they move Pierce, for Josh Smith. What would ATL want off that roster?

yeah....I call BS. Atlanta wouldn't in a million years be interested in that. They'd be far better off letting him walk than bring on Pierce.

i doubt this..

If the C's move Pierce, why would they need to do a sign & Trade?

I think they are talking about 2 separate deals.

I don't think it's for Pierce, is it? It's just contingent on them moving Pierce first. Am I wrong about that?

yea they are talking about moving pierce for a draft pick, then taking the 15 mil trade exception they get from the previous trade to do the sign and trade deal for smith, and if your Atlanta why not do a sign and trade honestly, hes leaving and your getting nothing, why not get atleast something in return. so to recap Pierce would NOT be going to Atlanta.

even so why would they want Josh Smith? Wouldn't they be starting over and wanting to rebuild?

the Celtics don't want to do a full rebuild, they want to try and flip their aging core for young talent and picks to still compete and rebuild on the fly

Josh Smith is not the dude I want to start my rebuild around.

i can see boston doing this/wanting it.smith as the rep of a minor star and they probably dont want a full rebuild, like they should do.dunno why for the hawks, they should just let him walk

Josh Smith is not the dude I want to start my rebuild around.

I think the thought process is not building around anyone but to create a young athletic core of rondo green and smith then bring in players that suit their strengths and build around a core group instead of just one player, all the teams now a days are not looking to build around 1 said player but to create a group of players to build around, for example the spurs have done it almost flawlessly they have Duncan parker and manu, they brought in great players that work well with their strengths, that's just my opinion on the thought process, its harder imo to build around a single player then it is to build around a core group of players

Josh Smith isn't getting a team like the Celtics anywhere other than a 1st round exit. Best case scenario for the C's is to just straight up suck.

I hope the Hawks expressing interest in a trade for MKG is true and all of this can tie together.

With us trying to trade our 2 draft picks to move up, I would love a Horford/MKG/draft choice trio to start a rebuild.

The sign and trade is for smith but they want to move pierce before they make the deal for smith

98.5 "The Sports Hub" throws a lot of crap against the wall. Take what they say with a grain of salt.

I can see Jeff Green being included in the deal.

Smith sucks. Rondo & Smith is enough to get a Celt fan gargling w/ razor blades.

So Boston will simply go thru that awkward stage of mediocrity/crap. I still hope to see Josh Smith in a Spur uni at the beginning of the 2013/14 season, it would be awesome to see.

celts need to blow it up full rebuild, trade rondo for a first and hope you get the number 1 next year

Question, why would Hawks sign and trade Smith for nothing, or close to nothing (especially to a East playoff rival like Boston)? We could just move on if we want cap space, having the most in the league as it is. Wonder if a draft pick is involved? Doubt Ferry wants anything to do with a player unless he is on a rookie contract or a star (seeing that we are either rebuilding or going for a star).

Rondo + Smith is bad enough, but Rondo + Smith + a rookie head coach (e.g., Jay Larranaga)? Look out. :speechless:

Why trade Green when you can just sign Smith outright?

Yeah they want he picks and exception from pierce, talking about the hawks.

If the DJ and KG deal weren't blocked, that would have been the sorts offensive team in the league.
- Rondo
- Bradley
- Green
- Smith
- DJ

Just stand 10 feet off to make them shoot and hack the whole 4th quarter. Even with KG in djs place only KG can make a jumper consistently. Josh Smith keeps Rondo happy as they are friends, that's all that is, keep rondo happy, sell some tickets, run on a treadmill

He's made $168M from the Celts, I don't care what he wants or thinks. I think that's a lot of dough for one ring.
