Yeah, that is one weird start. The Rockies gave him a minor league deal about a month ago. He thinks hes Roger Clemens and can pitch only half a season while getting paid.

Let's increase Oswalt's BABIP further.

Well the Bruins are all done, so now i can focus on the Sox fully. I've been watching them on and off since the B's have been in the playoffs, haven't posted much in here lately, but i'm back for good. Hopefully the Sox can take away the pain of the B's losing.

Heard WMB is getting optioned to AAA and Snyder's getting the call.

Dempster's put together a lot of good/solid starts in a row. We have our ace pitching tomorrow so I expect a sweep

Did they show the lady who's face got destroyed on TV? Just curious what it showed because I was about 10 rows behind her and couldn't make a lot out. Looked like it got her eye.

Also, my friend dropped a foul ball. Went right off his hand. I am disappoint.

Why are you guys so certain about Iggy collapsing at some point? I refuse to believe that, the kid is 23 years old and has never had the typical road thru the minors.

On the other hand, his value will probably never be higher. Not sure how other GMs assess his current play, though.

They don't show that type of thing on TV. Not even a streaker on the field.

He's hot as fire right now. BUT we've seen him when he's not hitting, until we see how he handles a slump, the jury is still out. I want the kid to succeed, i love him, just trying to have realistic expectations. I really hope he proves wrong.

One thing though i like seeing is him driving the ball to opposite field. He's not just pulling everything, and his contact has been getting better and better, he's not just hitting the infield single.

Because he has like a .500 babip. Impossible to sustain, hes going to go through a stretch the opposite of this where he can't hit at all.

This. IDK anyone who doesn't want Iggy to succeed, but there is no possible way he can sustain these stats the whole year. He's going to slump. Now the key to see whether he's for real or not is if he can get out of a slump. That's when i'll put faith that he can do it full time/everyday.

Well i don't see WMB raking anytime soon so this will be the solution going forward for a while.

Iggy may not even "slump" per se. He might just have his BABIP start returning to realistic levels. He may start only getting 1 hit a night, rather than the nearly 2 hits/night that's been needed to hold his BA over .400. I think that I read where he'd need to go into an 0 for 41 slump to even see his BA drop below .300 at this point.

But these numbers just aren't sustainable once his BABIP returns to reality. Regardless, at this point, the Sox made the right decision to ride the hot hand. SURE, Iggy may not be much of a power threat, but he keeps getting hits and showing some reasonable patience. And with his stellar defense, it's hard to argue with that combination. Crap, if Iggy simply was turned into a .270-.280 hitter with about a .330-ish OBP when his offense settled down, no one would (or at least should) seriously complain about him as the starting SS in years to come. Well, assuming that Bogaerts was moved to another position... ;)

I think that WMB would require a miraculous turn-around AND Iggy would need to remain extremely productive for the Sox to be willing to boot Drew out of the starting SS job. And honestly, I just don't see those 2 things happening.

Besides which, the Sox still need a utility player, and trading away Drew would appear to leave the Sox without a utility IF if Iggy became the starting SS. Of course, I suppose that utility IFers are a dime-a-dozen and the Sox could go find one on the scrap heap for chump change. But why bother if you've already got Drew and Iggy?

I still don't get it, how is his BABIP supposed to be much lower when he's hitting way over .400? Impossible with that average.
Of course it'll come down sooner than later, but his BABIP doesn't suggest that he cannot be a regular .300 hitter.
And from what I've seen recently, his plate discipline has definitely improved.

As odd as it sounds, with a .500 babip his average is not that high. Ted hit over .400 with a .378 babip. If he had a ~.300 babip he'd probably be hitting somewhere around .250-.260ish. He's not hitting the ball like Miggy or Jeter, guys that can sustain high babips. That's why hes probably going to have a mega 'slump' at some point.

I'm not killing him or saying he sucks. He's walking at a decent rate, and not striking out that much. If he can put up just a high .600ish OPS he would bring value. Hes clearly improved as a hitter

Bringing in Tazawa when this game is about to get delayed, and Lackey only at 98 pitches makes no sense.

Wow Lackey, who saw that coming? Kinda expected to have a better year than 2011, but that's hardly a tough projection. Would have been more than happy with an average 4.5 ERA and his usual 200+ IP.

Still baffles me of how good the team is doing. It's not like everything is clicking: Lester's been mediocre, Lackey's W-L is just average despite him pitching way better, Buchholz missing some starts, Victorino on the DL, WMB's having a horrible year, one closer out for the year, the other one blowing saves on a regular basis and so on.

Not that a starter's W-L record is all that great a stat, but but Dempster's W-L record's even worse than Lackey's.

And yeah, at times it does seems like they're doing it with smoke and mirrors. Sort of makes me worry about this team in the months to come, if they can keep this magic act going.
