you have an ulterior motive here?

nba ratings are strong. they might not be pulling in 15s, but no sport besides the NFL is gonna do that this day and age.

The Miami Heat's 95-88 victory over the San Antonio Spurs in Game 7 of the NBA Finals on Thursday drew a 17.7 overnight Nielson rating.
It is the second highest-rated NBA game ever on ABC, according to ESPN.
The rating peaked at a 22.6 from 11:30 p.m.-11:45 p.m. ET.
It is expected that the game marks the 37th straight time that an NBA Finals telecast delivered a TV ratings win for the night. It is the 25th consecutive time it has a double-digit overnight rating.
In Miami, the game registered a 44.2 local rating, the highest-rated NBA game ever in that market. In San Antonio, it had a 46.4 rating.
This year's finals averaged a 12.4 rating, up five percent from last year's 11.8 for the Heat-Oklahoma City Thunder series that Miami won in five games.

Basically the Showtime Lakers, Bird Celtics and Jordan Bulls drew a lot of ratings, I pretty much knew that. I didn't exactly know from 03'-09' the NBA finals ratings was that bad.

The Neilson rating is completely flawed

Ratings are percentages of households that have the game on. THe more important number is viewership. How many people are actually watching the game. The ratings are deflated nowadays since TV's are more commonplace and more people watch in big groups at bars or homes. I can guarantee viewership of the finals has steadily increased over the years if someone can identify the numbers

You have to also wonder what about the bars that got the games going on?

I wonder what JB's motives are here. He seems to be enamored with ratings, it's weird.

in the last 5-6 years internet streaming made things easier too, can't estimate how many people are watching online

Nielsen only accounts for T.V. With smartphones, computers, tablets, etc., the ratings of the past are all inflated. NBA is more popular than ever. Don't believe the stupid stats that the OP continues bringing up. "Duncan is 4-0 in the finals". Blah, blah, blah.

LAL vs Miami would shatter ratings.

That's all Stern wanted. He just wanted a high number. Good for him.

In most cases this my be true but for an ABC game? No need to stream right?
