View Full Version : Which Basketball Traits Influence Winning More?

I was recently wondering what trait leads to winning more? A freakish athletisism like Lebron or a obsessive mentality like MJ (will, practice till perfect, über confidence, refusing to lose).

Obviously both players have both but I would put Lebrons athletisism vs Jordan and Jordan's will over Lebron. Both are winners and all time greats so this isn't that debate, but which trait would you pick if you were creating a player from scratch to create a superstar and dynasty?

Feel free to add some other traits like lock down defense or superior shooting. Even make a ranking list.

I would pick the mentality because the player has a high correlation on maxing out their skills and provide those close in game intangibles.

In the short term athleticism. Long term it's mental toughness, determination, not being afraid to take the blame or credit for wins/losses, and fundamentals. Aka the "intangibles."

versatility in the NBA was more important in the 60s and 70s than today.
