Agree, Pop will outcoach spoestra badly in this series.

SA knows how important this game 3 is, I would be very surprised to see them lose this.

Is that why OKC beat them four straight times after they were up 2-0? Pop is good but he's not God, if their 3 point shots don't fall, it's a rout for Miami again. Just like the 2nd half of game 2, their low post scoring has been shut down by Miami.

I really hope that Pop rips into the big 3 badly, they just didn't show up for Game2...... I hope they come out full force to remedy that really embarassing showing. This is about as important for the spurs as game 2 was for miami.

I don't think we will see a struggling Lebron in the first half.

and Bosh with the open jumpers all day long. Pops is purposely leaving Bosh out in the mid range and he is making them pay. I think Pops has understood you can only try to stop 2 of the big 3 and he's giving Bosh those mid range shots. I don't think any of the big men on the Spurs are mobile enough to defend Bosh in all honesty.

Bosh is the key to the Heat winning.

They did a good job on Duncan inside, but he did miss a lot of open shots. But to say its been shutdown is an overstatement.

Few things-

Their 3 point shots didn't fall in game 1 and it wasn't a route? In fact, their 3 point shots haven't been falling all post season yet look where they are. Not sure I follow what you're getting at.

I wouldn't say their low post scoring has been shut down, Duncan went to work in Game 1 on them. Game 2, they just never got in a rhythm. (i'd be real surprised if Duncan doesn't have a big game tonight)

In terms of Pop, well no he's not a God, but I guarantee you he learned from last year.

if it wasn't for some unforced turnovers by the Heat, this could easily be 2-0 for the Heat.

Heat have simply outplayed or played at the same level with the Spurs for 7 of the 8 quarters played thus far.

it isn't an exact science that the Heat have been the better team.

of course people will start to debunk that with the way refs are doing things.

I don't think either team has figured out anything. It's a series of adjustments. Spurs took Game 1, Miami adjusted and took Game 2. Now it's on SA to adjust. Stuff doesn't usually carry from one game to the next at this point when you have 2 very similar teams

Lets see how well they have figured out the spurs when they are on the road.. home teams clearly have an advantage so once 2 games have been played in San Antonio, get back to me. Spurs took one on the road and thats huge..Being outplayed doesnt mean anything (we learned that in the pacers/heat series)

You mean how they got lucky on the 3 to tie at end of 4th or the bogus 3 shot foul called on D Wade, while the big 3 were in foul trouble all game? I watched that game and Miami outplayed the Pacers. How can you say a few luck here and there for the Pacers while getting preferential treatment from refs and almost led to them winning, means Miami got outplayed? this haters...

Heat apparently figured out Indy after game 3 and everyone said it was over in 5. This Miami team is shaky and they aren't playing a bunch of 22 year olds in the Finals this time. Spurs will bounce back and take 2 out of 3 on this homestand. Probably starting tonight, than will lose the next one.

I wonder what adjustments (if any) the Spurs will make on offense. Everytime the Spurs tried their bounce pass to the cutter, 2 Heat defenders would make a wall so the pass couldn't get through. It was pretty amazing to watch. If Bosh plays the way he did last game on defense and the refs don't give Duncan free whistles it'll be very hard for the Spurs to win.

Anything is possible. Pops could tell them to pretty much keep their same offense but don't make bad passes. If they run the exact same offense and Duncan ends up getting to the free throw line, the game would change drastically.

I don't understand what you meant by "free whistles".

And even if they keep the offense the same, the entry pass from TP to the roll/pop man needs to change. The pocket pass was getting deflected or kicked a lot last game.

Simple question. If it is so easy for Pop to make all these perfect adjustments, why did he get swept by the Spurs last year? Both teams make adjustments, doesn't mean they will work. This is the finals not the first round.

Sometimes 1 team gets insanely hot. No matter what adjustments you make, it's a make or miss league. The fact that last year happened, is even more of a reason to believe Pop makes adjustments. There's nothing wrong with people saying he makes adjustments, I don't see the need for you to bring up what happened last year.

Fact is, Pop has done far more good than bad in terms of adjustments. If you want to refer to last year as a barometer, that's certainly your prerogative

No that is not the point. He brought up Pop so I used that as an example. I think Pop is a great coach and expect him to have a gameplan for the pick and roll tonight. I am just asking why do people think that only a losing team will adjust. They act like Spo didn't take anything away from game 2 to do better just because they won. It is asinine.

That's usually the way it goes. (if it ain't broke don't fix it sort of thing) Of course there are in game adjustments for both teams, but after the success Miami just had in Game 2, what significant adjustments do they make? When you get to a certain point in the playoffs its like you get that first game out the way to get a feel for the other team. Then it's really more about who can execute their game plan better.

basically, Spo made the necessary adjustments in game 2 that requires Pop to make adjustments in the first place tonight.

Well first off Spo understands that the pick and roll worked, he also knows that Pop understands this. So anyone thinking that will be the gameplan going into game 3 is just plain stupid. That gameplan will be implemented but you aren't going to have have 40 possessions of set a pick, try to score. It was a short-term in game adjustment that worked, not a gameplan. The first half the offense struggled getting the ball into the paint, that will have to be fixed. Danny Green will need to be watched a little more. Leonard will eventually get hot so you have to get a body on him and not give him 3-4 wide open looks.

The game was a blowout, but there were a lot of missteps made by Miami as well.

Well I guess I'm stupid! Way I see it, you do something until the other team shows they can consistently counter it.

I'm not saying Spo won't make little tweaks and obviously he will not run the same thing over & over, but right now, the expectation is more on Pop to not only figure out the P & R, but also figure out a more efficient way to run the P & R with the way Miami defended it. So that's why people feel he will make adjustments. I don't know why you're taking it as a shot at Spo somehow.

That is the thing, yes you still use pick and roll. But you also run other plays so Pop can't get comfortable and adjust. Pick and roll is not an offense. It is a portion of the offense, they will make adjustments so they aren't 1 dimensional.

Free whistles = whistle being blown in his favor without a legitimate reason.

We know that stars get calls they shouldn't sometimes. If Duncan gets someone like Bosh in foul trouble, it will hurt the Heat badly.

Every game in this series has an identity of its own. I wont be surprised if Spurs win this game in a blowout, but turn the ball over just as many times as the last game. Its that unpredictable.

Really?

If the Spurs turn the ball over just as many times as last game they aren't winning in a blowout. You can count on that. Not saying they'll lose because Miami can turn it over too but to say it can be a blowout with that many turnovers? Dumb statement.

G-Menfan4lyfe
06-11-2013, 06:29 PM
If Ginobli shows up its a wrap. I expect a close game regardless but I can see Spurs taking 2 of 3 at home.

The part about Ginobili is full of fail.

And as much as you can see the Spurs taking 2 of 3 at home a lot of people can see Miami doing the same.

I think the Heat smell blood and will continue playing the way they did last game, challenging anything headed toward the basket. I think using Splitter more would be a smart strategy for the Spurs, it would take a lot of the focus off of Duncan.

Can't wait to see this blackout. Havent had a home game in almost 3 weeks, I hope Spurs fans are really supporting the team.

I expect us to come out energized being at home. Hopefully our guys will realize to not leave Ray Allen, Chalmers, and Miller wide freaking open.

Only way to do that is to play 1 on 1 with LeBron and not give him outlets. For 10 years the NBA has been trying to figure out how to do it.

I think we still don't know what to truly expect expect. Did the Heat figure out the Spurs offense or did the Spurs big 3 just have an awful game. How much was it due to plaing on the road/home etc. Tonight will answer a lot of those questions.

One thing we all know is that the Spurs can not beat the Heat playing small ball. Will they stay big longer this game. In other words, will Diaw play more than Gary Neal.

Also, will Pop trust Corey Joseph at back up PG instead of making Manu have that extra job.

D-Leethal
06-11-2013, 07:58 PM
I would play Blair before Diaw. Diaw is awful. Cory Joseph came in and they made a run last game. Manu against Miami's pressure D is hard to watch.

Blair would be a nightmare... Diaw is much better. He can knock down the shot, he can post up smaller guys, and he's a really good passer. He had some really good moments in the Golden State series. I actually hope he sees more minutes

Blair would be a tough matchup on the other end, Diaw is just really very hard to watch at times. He looks like hands down the most out of shape dude in the league and is pretty much a plodding stiff who can make the extra pass at this point.

Blair would get beat both ways easily. He hustles for rebounds and has improved his mid range shot. but it would be ugly. Diaw's biggest problem is being too passive at times.

Blair might be able to give a few good minutes of energy, but not long periods of time

Refs tend to be leaning towards the Heat on calls and non calls, lets hope that changes or at least doesnt effect the outcome of game. Splitter got mulled

A two game sample size? :laugh2:

This is the finals how big of a sample size do you need. Seriously you either come to play now or regret it later. This isn't round 1

You need to use more than a two game sample size. That should be obvious. Not to mention, I was quoting this post. It clearly says this postseason, not The Finals.

As bad as Wade has been this postseason, its still better than what Manu has put up.

06-11-2013, 09:48 PM

kdspurman

After last years WCF when Green went MIA and got benched, he said he would redeem himself. He's certainly backing it up on the biggest stage.

Wade attacks the basket and makes it. Then he forgets how he scored and air balls a mid range jumper, lol.
