View Full Version : Is there any player(s) in the upcoming draft that can be a franchise player?

Is there any player(s) you will build your franchise around in this draft? or are they all role players?

I ask because I had an argument about Oladipo with a co-worker; my co-worker thinks Oladipo will be the next Kobe, but I just don't see it. Oladipo (IMO) will be a good defensive player but I don't think he has the offensive talents to carry a team.

I don't watch much college ball but Oladipo looks like the guy who is best equipped to make an impact in the NBA next year. He's good at getting to, and finishing at the basket, he's a great athlete, quality shooter, smart player, and has good size. I have no idea if he'll be a star but I think he will be a high plus/minus type guy doing many things to help his team win.

He can get to the rim and his jumper is greatly improved. Combined with his D, I'd say that puts him on the same track as Kawhi Leonard. Given the serious lack of depth at SG, there's no reason to think he won't be a $10M/yr+ player.

trey burke is the only guy who I think has a chance of being a franchise player,

Noel makes a huge contribution to a team, but mainly defensivly, if he can develop offesnivly he can be a very good player, but not a clutch type guy.

I don't see a single franchise player in the bunch, but bigger surprises have happened.

i don't see any but it's hard to tell. usually someone surprises and becomes much better in the pro's then expected.

Noel reminds me of Tyler Hansborough and Emeka Okafor, they are only great at college level. I havent seen much from Burke tho and the gms dont seem high on him

I like Oladipo, perhaps McLemore could be a future star also.

He's my favorite player in the draft. But I don't see him as an all star guard... More of an overall Solid and career underrated PG at the pro level. He might get an all star nod or two, but I think he's just going to be a reliable top half of PGs in the NBA through his career.

Andre Miller (with a jumper), Jamal Tinsley (with focus), Jarret Jack. He just needs a great backup.

Burke has the highest chance of star potential, but Oladipo is maybe the safest choice in this draft.

I'd put my money on Burke, Oladipo next and MCW also has a chance...Cle will regret taking Noel if they do

McLemore maybe? Who knows. Everyone thinks its a weak draft but there could be a superstar somewhere in there.

Edit: Also a guy like Dennis Schroeder from Germany would be someone to keep an eye on. It seems Euro's arent scouted quite as well and sometimes come out of nowhere and become great. Not saying he's going to be a superstar but he could be a steal with the raw athleticism he already possesses.

I don't think there are any franchise players but there could be some good players. Here's how I think they compare as far as upside. (Don't think i'm saying Mclemore is the next Ray Allen! Just on upside.)

Nerlens Noel-Tyson Chandler
Mclemore-Ray Allen
Burke-Kemba Walker
Bennett-David West
Oladipo-Iguodala
Porter- Brandon Roy
Muhammad-Beasley

Mclemore could be a very good player or he could be the next Brandon Knight. Who knows

His profile picture, for me, actually humanizes LeBron James a bit, because you realize that he's a fairly unattractive person. If he looked as good as Dwyane Wade, I think I'd dislike him slightly more.

You forgot "walks off the court apathetically when teammate hits game winner because he didn't pass him the ball" lol

I actually think he has a chance if he commits. The guy is humbled and I have read he has been impressive in work outs. You look at the guys who went to UCLA, were underwhelming, and then came in the NBA to be All-Stars or legit starters in the past decade, it is a trend. Shabazz looked like a potential top pick coming out of high school, and then put up good, not great numbers at UCLA. Same with Love, Westbrook, Jrue, Affalo, and on a lesser scale, Darren Collison. I think Shabazz can still shock people.

I don't think there is a franchise player but I think this is the year to have 2 or 3 first round picks and get several good players, the kind of player that Memphis and Pacers have been getting

Of course its 1 or 2, all they have to do is land in lakerland and ride the bench for a few yrs, start, win a ring and blast off

I don't know about any of the foreign players outside of Dennis Schroeder, so maybe in the overseas class. The only one out of the collegiate class I had as "franchise changing" was Marcus Smart, before he decided to go back to school.

Next years projected class, now there's a few with potential there.

Andrew Wiggins. Not a huge NCAAB fan outside VCU, but I'll be watching Kansas next year for the sole purpose of seeing what he can do.
