@LakersNation
Dwight Howard is reportedly intrigued by one NBA team. And it isn't the Lakers. DB http://bit.ly/112MONA

http://www.lakersnation.com/lakers-rumors-dwight-howard-leaning-towards-houston-rockets/2013/05/19/

Itís been a quiet off-season so far for the Lakers in terms of personnel changes. While there have been plenty of ideas thrown out by various media outlets, actual rumors coming from the teams themselves have been quiet. The league generally asks teams that arenít involved in the playoffs to keep their rumors and chatter to a minimum until the playoffs are completed, which could explain the lack of talk coming from the organization.

ó- Check out Lakers big man Dwight Howardís player bio here! ó-

Regardless, the big fish in Los Angeles this summer is Dwight Howard, who becomes an unrestricted free agent on July 1. Howard has said multiple times that he expects to take some time to make his decision, but a new report from Ken Berger of CBS Sports states that while Los Angeles is still a possibility for the three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year, itís the Houston Rockets that are intriguing him now.

With six weeks to go before Howard becomes an unrestricted free agent, the team that is said to intrigue him the most is the Houston Rockets, according to multiple people briefed on internal conversations surrounding Howardís free-agent decision. The Rockets have a young star, James Harden, who has proved himself worthy of playing the leading role for the franchise; a budding 3-point shooting threat in Chandler Parsons; a defensive-minded coach in Kevin McHale; and Omer Asik, the kind of 7-footer Howard is believed to want next to him in the frontcourt.

This certainly isnít what the Lakers want to hear.

Still, if thereís one thing we know about Howard and where he intends on playing, itís that there will be a whole lot of rumors before a decision is actually made. For now, this is the latest news, and weíll wait and see what he has in store for us.

Welcome to the Dwightmare 2.0, Los Angeles. Be sure to bring a friend.

what an NBA player SHOULD do and what he is GOING to do are two VERY different notions.

we can all speculate...rockets are younger, more athletic, have a better coach/ better personnel, and make more sense for Dwight...but that doesn't mean anything.

Who are the Lakers gonna sign in 2014 that's gonna give them a better future than the Rockets? Actually let me rephrase that, who would want to come to the Lakers in 2014 when Kobe will be retired or close to it while the Lakers will have no other good player on their team (if Dwight leaves)

Houston would be a prefect fit for Dwight Howard seeing as he needs a fresh start in a smaller market. Houston has everything Dwight's looking for. The Rockets are a good shooting team with a superstar in James Harden. Houston isn't a bad place to live. You have to imagine that Dwight wants to be part of a young roster that has a chance to compete.

I still think OKC would be the team to beat. OKC still has the better superstars, another potential allstar in Ibaka and young players in it's pipeline and draft picks. It would be close tho but OKC is still getting better which is scary.

Did you seriously just say Lin? Like getting the chance to play with Lin is some sort of incentive?

You can't be serious, Lin isn't even the best PG on his own team, Beverly is way better.

And Parsons is nice but don't forget they'll have to re-up on him soon so they may not have as much $ as you think in the future....

Hawkeye15

I know. I am sure Dwight wants to waste the tail end of his prime in a wasted year, only to depend on a front office then trying to get it right as he dips into his 30's.

Cmon man, from a basketball sense, the Rockets make more sense for Dwight than any team by a mile.

Marques24kobe
05-19-2013, 11:18 PM
Between Harden, Lin, and Asik yeah I said Asik, the Rockets will have $45 million tied up in 14-15 So I don't understand when people say they have money. Yes they may have almost enough money to sign a max player this year...but the year after they are screwed.

AWC713
05-19-2013, 11:18 PM
Exactly. I know alot of people like Chandler Parsons here tho.

people need to understand the poison pill. the cap hit for each of the 3 years is 8 mil.

so, although the rockets owner is paying lin in instalments of 5 mil/ 5 mil/ 13 mil...each year, lin only counts for 8 mil towards the cap. same with asik.

Hawkeye15

Meh, Lin will be flipped most likely. Point is, Dwight would be essentially wasting at the very least, an entire season of the tail end of his prime, by staying with the Lakers. Instead, he could join Harden, and one of the better GM's in the game, and contend starting next year, and the following 3-4 years, barring weirdness.

Sorry buddy but Lins contract isnt a poison pill. It would have been if New York matched but they didnt so Lins contract will be 8 million a year for the next two years. So many people make that mistake though haha. But serious question... If Dwight signs in Houston, is there a chance Harden gets a championship before Durant/Westbrook. wow, 2 whole years, yet there still only 3 seasons removed from their last title. It's a testament to their success that many just take for granted. Am I worried about this team's future? Absolutely not. This past season was just a nightmare from all spectrums, injuries being a SIGNIFICANT factor. Losing to the Mavericks was a shot to the gut but they went on a historic run that year. The Thunder are simply the better team so their was no shame in that?

That's when you know your franchise is great when not winning a championship the last few years is "they don't matter." If Lakers don't matter what does that say about 90% of the league that haven't had a chip in over a decade, IF ever?

I will say, if he goes to Houston, it's the exact opposite scenario that he wanted last year lol. I mean he wanted Brooklyn, a big market for endorsements, also wanted to be the face of a franchise and the team's #1 option on offense.

Well if he ends up in Houston, he basically gets a smaller market, becomes a #2 option at best on offense, loses endorsement money, while his image takes another colossal hit.

Probably belongs in a smaller market though. I don't think he can handle being the face of LA. A lot of pressure comes along with that, pressure that I don't think he wants.

This is a point people seem to be missing. How much is ownership willing to go into the tax? After that year, they also have a big decision to make with Parsons. He's going to get paid... a lot, considering the little amount he's making so far. Still the Rockets are a better option short term, without a doubt, long term however (for the rest of his career), I still think LA is the easy choice. Whatever though, if he leaves, he leaves.

Yes, it's true. Because Lebron's not going to LA. Take my word for it. Unless he does, Harden > Anything else.

Also he has a very solid cast of young role players there along with plenty of room for improvement. Morey has proven (so far) that he knows what he's doing for the most part. I don't know what you're expecting to happen in LA 2014, but I can assure you it's not going to happen. Keep dreaming buddy. :)

From what I've been reading, the Rockets could add a THIRD star to Harden, Dwight, Parsons (cap hold) in 2015 as well if they don't improve via trade. All signs point that they will so I don't know. Still an amazing possibility to think they could add another top free agent to that group (Howard-Harden-Parsons-?).

I think it's hilarious the amount of hate just towards the city of Houston. I was born and raised here, and it's hotter than hell, but as far as celebrities and superstars go, we leave them alone because we just don't care. During the All Star weekend they had to close the Galleria because everyone from out of town was flocking there expecting the players to be coming through. The city is so spread out that you can go almost anywhere and do anything, not to mention that the taxes are a breeze.

I'm just waiting on Dwight to be seen hanging with D Will so we can start hearing Dwight to Brooklyn rumors again.

Or him and CP3 get seen having lunch and we can hear their going to go somewhere and form a "super team."

Whatever though, if he leaves, he leaves.

if the team is winning, alexander is easily willing to go deep into the tax. he has before and has said so to the media. He just didn't want to pay 70+ mil for a lotto team so they cut back on the payroll

how would asik and dwight pair up? asik is more center than pf.

either as his backup with some minutes together (maybe 3-5) or traded. either way it's a win-win: you have the 2 of the best defensive/rebounding centers holding down the paint or you get a good return for asik to fill other holes

I think Dwight would play the PF and don't say that he can't...see Blake Griffin. He could average 5 blocks a game from weak side off the ball defense. Olajuwon got a majority of his blocks off of someone else man rarely in a one on one situation.

he should. rockets have a much brighter future than the lakers.

rockets will never ever have a brighter future than lakers lol good one. if dwight leaves lakers will jus sign 2 nice pieces and 2014 lakers will have money again to sign atleast 3 big stars we have the money to do it. houston will never win a tittle with howard and harden only team to stop miami now is the lakers try convince somebody who doesnt know how our organiztion is run. We sign the biggiest star and pull off the craziest trades dream on rockets lol. They lucky if harde sign back

Dont you get it bro.... the young stars dont want to be a laker. You arent getting any stars this year, and you arent getting any in 2014. The lakers are done for a few years.

Terrible move for houston, or anybody for that mtter....dwights gonna want a max deal and he is simply not worth it, he proved it by not doing jack in the playoffs, i didnt expect them to win, but at least show some motivation as the main guy. He's half a player, all defense and lost on offense. He may be a Defensive monster, but not worth the type of money he wants

wow, 2 whole years, yet there still only 3 seasons removed from their last title.

What does winning a title 3 years ago have to do with the Lakers mattering now. And the whole "Injuries being significant" is a bogus excuse. Kobe played in 78-82 games and Howard 76-82, that's 2 top 10 players suiting up for the majority of the season and they barely made the playoffs with some help from the refs.

I see you like many other LA fans are still in denial, just like the one's that were blowing hot smoke about the Lakers challenging the Spurs in the first round only to get steam rolled, again. Kobe or no Kobe.

Its funny to see the joy and adamant certainty that people claim to have when writing off the Lakers for the future. This is LA. We've gone to the Finals every decade since this league has been accomplished and have been a contender for more then 90% of the franchise's existence. To tell me that the future is bleak is a joke. I mentioned the title 3 years ago because the Lakers are the only franchise that would get criticized for not winning a title every single year. People just take their success for granted. And as I said no excuses, but how can you not look at the factors behind their abysmal season without dissecting and any logical NBA fan would say that injuries did play a huge role in it. Just take a look at what one injury did to OKC, knocked them out of the playoffs.

LOL at the Spurs comment. Again? What do you mean? Kobe and the Lakers have owned Pop and CO. in the playoffs.

yeah i called this around christmas time..no state taxes right? Dwight has child support to dish out, remember.. the Rockets are in WAY better shape then anybody else who could offer Dwight the money he wants..Lakers?Nets? he'll have to play half a season with out Kobe in L.A... thats too much for Dwight.. plus I think he needs to take less money and play for a real contender if he wants to reshape his image. If there is any player i think that could mesh real well with Dwight, its Harden. I don't know Houston's cap but can they afford Dwight and J-Smoove or CP3?.. And Don't worry Laker fans maybe you can amnesty Pau and Kobe, then Sign Bynum..

You could be right. Things aren't the same as every other decade the Lakers won titles in. They have Jim Buss instead of the late great Jerry. They have a CBA so strict that everything they have ever done to win titles would be impossible. They also have a roster devoid of any young players, tradeable assets and have even traded away many future picks. Things look worse for the Lakers than they did after the Shaq trade when they missed the playoffs. At least they had Kobe in his prime with 2 good ankles. The flip side to your statement is that Laker fans have never seen a situation like theirs and have no idea what it looks like.

I don't get it. Why do lakers fans hate LeBron so much more than other fanbases? He wasn't even in the running to go to their team. He didn't play them like he did the knicks, nets, and bulls :laugh2:. They dont have as much reason to dislike him as those teams. Actually, I do know why some of them dislike him so much. Lucky for you, you'll never have to worry about that. Besides, since LBJ is better than Kobe, don't you think the NBA is already a joke? You're arguing a dead point. Let it go...Kobe is top 10 man, everyone agrees...But LBJ is better and will surpass him in a year or two. Accept the inevitability, stop fighting it, and the PSD world will be a much better place.
