im taking pacers...all depends on post play of hibbert and west..carmelo, felton and jr are gonna come out firing and they will be in the game...hibbert and west are crucial for offensive flow for pacer...if they get into foul trouble, knicks will take advantage...both teams are good defensively so points are gonna be low like usual...also having george hill will help with defense and offense unlike last game...basically if hibbert and west rebound and score pacers will can counter offense of carmelo and felton...if hill and george can provide some augustin can providse some more offense, they should be able to take this game...since points are at a premium

No granger and no hill will = a knick win. Hill isn't great but he's outplayed new Yorks PGs this series and that offense is lost without him. He helps them just by dribbling the ball up the floor

Knick_Fever
05-18-2013, 02:13 PM
In the 2 W's for the knicks, their rebounding avg was about the same as the pacers'. In Indiana's 3 W's they out-rebounded the Knicks by and avg of 14!! So we dont necessarily have to out-rebound them to win, just try to keep the disparity under 7-8.

Why would you even bring granger in this conversation? The guy hasnt sniffed the playoffs. You act like he got injured in this series. And the pacers are capable of winning w/out him in Indiana. They're advantage (size) is how they've won. Look at the rebounding disparity in the games they won vs the ones they lost.

Hill certainly isn't a superstar/all-star, but his defense is superiors to Felton. He's a very solid PG with a high BBIQ.

When Hill is on the bench, the Pacers are -37.

You don't think the fact that their turnover rate with Augustin is one of the worst in the league and they turn the ball over 6% more with him than with Hill makes a difference?

Sure he's on Felton's level - do you not remember how Knicks fell off a cliff when Felton went down this year?

Pretty sure Pacers are undefeated in these playoffs when George Hill scores over 14 points. Haven't won one game he scored under 14 points. That should give you an idea how important he is to their success. Starting PG is always a big hit regardless of the stature of that starting PG.

Both Felton and Hill are average pgs the loss of a game falls on the best players. Paul George creates more plays for his teamates than Hill.

Dj Augustin can't run the team like Hill. He's turnover prone. Anybody that's watched this series from the start would be able to tell the impact Hill has on both ends of the court. They had Stevenson running the point at times that resulted in constant turnovers. If Hill plays it will be a close game, if he doesn't I like the our chances.

Exactly.

The Pacers are a MUCH better team with Hill running the point. Allowing them to bring Dj in off the bench also makes them a stronger team. Hill isn't a superstar by any means but he is a key part of their team style of basketball.

My point was that there already minus granger. Take hill out of it and you have a team that couldn't win a game against New York. They need hill. Granger a loss is significant regardless of how they beat Atalanta (garbage team) or New York. Add hills loss into it and the Knicks have a chance to win the series. Keep hill in and your probably already out the playoffs. That team needs hill. Play Miami without hill and granger and that series goes 5 at best.

I love these theories about Hill playing or not playing. Regardless of what happens, he's ONE player. Yes, he's a very good player but it's Game 6 the Knicks are on the brink and there's no excuses. The Pacers could just as easily won or lose without the guy IMO.

Beltrans Mole
05-18-2013, 05:16 PM
The key to the game and the rest of the series is limiting the Pacers offensive rebounds. They have been killing us on the boards. Can't let West, Hibbert, Hansborough, etc. keep getting easy put backs on long rebounds on bricked 3-pointers. Chandler and K-Mart need to man it up. If we had Sheed this would be a completely different series.

ryang
05-18-2013, 05:22 PM
Sheed? No he would not help. There's a reason he retired two years ago. He's done. Tired. Hurt. Whatever you want to say. But he could not bang low with Hibert or west. And they'd have someone else cover him considering he's a 3 point shooter. Don't sign guys that old who have been retired for two years is the best advise I could give the Knicks. Either way if hill is out it gives the Knicks life. If you can't see that then well I don't know what to tell you. 24 points in game 4. He runs there offense.

Pacers point guard George Hill has been cleared to play in tonight's Game 6 versus the Knicks.

You dont have to defend a washed up player anymore, Amare had a great career he was so dominate. But now he is horrible and Knicks dont even want him and Mike doesnt even want to play him. He plays no defense and when he touches the ball he isnt giving it up. Its been 2 years and a half and Amare and Melo still cant play together. Amare will probably retire once this deal is up .

although melo wasn't great, in the end it was foolish to think that a team with JR and Felton as 2nd and 3rd options was ever a serious threat. i do think some of the melo defenders will have a point when they talk about weak casts. it worked all year, but in the end you just can't rely on iffy three point shoters and inefficient secondary scoring options in a playoff series... especially against strong defensive teams like this.

melo fled to NYK in hopes of creating a dream team. unfortunately it's flopped mightily.

still, in the playoffs, when you're relying on Smith and Felton for scoring as much as they do, well, that's a scary thing.

i will say, and you all know i hate ref bantar, that i think the pacers have been the beneficiaries of a few more bad calls than the knicks tonight. the disparity shouldn't be as big as it is. INDY should have fewer fouls called against them and more FT attempts, but not this many. the obvious missed calls haven't been even.

but you can't cry conspiracy, because why the hell would anyone want IND to move on over NYK. it's just, unfortunately, an off night from the refs.

i'm sure that it will even out in the second. it usually dose.

I always thought Felton was a good offensive player in a running system (not Portland!) Having two good passing point guards in an up tempo system like that is a big advantage. Problem is that Kidd hasn't been playing the greatest.

Still though, I think the team could have more diversity on the offensive end. You are completely right that they live and die by the three. But it doesn't have to be like that. Even guys like J.R are more than capable of driving the ball and creating mid range shots.

sure. defense is half the game.

he's no offensive super star, but whatever. he was in recent years one of the league's most impacting defenders.

What I think of him is he was put on an already contending team like Dallas that was missing a center. Their center prior to Tyson was Erick Dampier and for half a season Brendan Haywood. Not exactly the best center options. He helped Dallas but also Dirk being unstoppable along with Terry and the defense of Marion and Stevenson along with Tyson. Also the play of Barea.

the value of a center who can change the entire defensive atmosphere of a team can't be understated. the gains the mavs made defensively after aquiring, and especially the gains the knicks made after getting him can't be understated. the knicks went from a 110 defensive rating to a 101 after acquiring him.

and offensively he isn't a liability. he's not a go-to scorer, but he knows when to shoot and when not to. he's been at or near the top of the league in TS% for years now because of that. he's smart; he knows his limitations. there's value in that too.

who's their center then. who could they trade chandler for and realistically improve. he's got 29 million left for two years...teams aren't gonna be jumping out of their shoes to get him.

felton's value can't be much either.

They can maybe get a 2nd scorer for Tyson, maybe David Lee or something along those lines. Or Pau Gasol. Maybe Boozer.

swapping chandler for lee would decimate them defensively. lee arguably is the worst defensive big man in the league.

they need a much more consistent 2nd option, but i think that's a lateral move at best.

and with bogut on GS, i'm not sure GS bites on that.
