With multiple teams either already interviewing or about to be shortly I think it's a good idea to make a thread we can all bump to update with coaching news and we can make a list of who ends up where even, if need be. I'll post the latest for each team and update it.

Nets: Hired Jason Kidd

Clippers: Hired Doc Rivers.

Cavs: Hired Mike Brown.

Bucks: Have hired Larry Drew.

Suns: Hired Jeff Hornacek.

Pistons: Mo Cheeks hired.

Hawks: The Hawks have officially hired Mike Budenholzer.

Sixers: ?

Bobcats: Steve Clifford, recent Lakers assistant has been hired as the head coach.

Kings: Mike Malone has agreed to a 4 year deal to coach the Sacramento Kings according to Woj.

Grizzlies: Been linked to Alvin Gentry who's done 2 interviews with team. George Karl has interviewed.

Nuggets: Vinny Del Negro has interviewed this last weekend. Brett Brown a Spurs assistant interviewed this weekend as well and has emerged as a strong contender for the job. Interviewed Shaw and Hollins as well who are considered front runners.

Piston's have Interviewed Nate McMillan, Lindsay Hunter. Joe Dumars went out to San Antonio to discuss position for several hours with Budenholzer, now considered in the running. Brian Shaw expected to interview with the inclusion of PJ in the process. I've heard nothing of PJackson being a candidate for the position.

Suns, maybe the Kings? I see Skiles as more of a team builder, rather than the manager of the personalities of an established franchise.

As an aside, I came across this article while thinking about who Skiles could be a fit for.

http://www.rantsports.com/nba/2013/05/06/keith-smart-likely-to-lose-job-as-coach-even-though-sacramento-kings-are-staying/

Looks like you should be able to add the kings to the list soon.

I met Robert Pack LOL!

On a serious note, I hope VDN is coaching next season....just not the Clippers. I wouldn't mind the team keeping him as GM honestly. He's won me over but he's not the best coach for the Clippers, with or without CP3.

Problem is their ego never allows it. For example Dunleavy did a solid job as GM but wouldn't step down as coach and stay the GM. Vinny like you said would make a good GM because he's great at managing people and analyzing talent. He's also a very nice guy who's really been a key to changing our franchise culture right next to Blake and CP3. He's a subpar coach though obviously.

Stan Van Gundy is not a candidate.

http://www.netsdaily.com/2013/5/9/4317084/add-lionel-hollins-to-the-list-says-chris-broussard

http://www.netsdaily.com/2013/5/8/4314386/nets-have-yet-to-contact-jerry-sloan-but-expect-them-to-call-about

Other rumors: Mike Fratello, Larry Brown, Scott Skiles, Brian Shaw, Mike Budenholzer - but for last two, these teams are still in the playoffs.

Basically the King/Prokhorov is going for every big name.

Haven't been doing a good job keeping this thread up. Some of the latest news...

Bucks have narrowed down their search down to Hawks coach Larry Drew, Rockets assistant Kelvin Sampson and Lakers assistant Steve Clifford. All 3 are having second interviews this week. Suns have hired Jeff Hornacek as their head coach according to Woj and other sources. Clippers are now putting all of their attention into grabbing one of the Van Gundy brothers, Hollins or Shaw according to today's report (before opening up search).

The San Antonio Spurs will allow Mike Budenholzer to negotiate a contract with the Atlanta Hawks during their nine-day break before the beginning of the NBA Finals if he is chosen as their next head coach.

Was hoping Bud would stay and be the post-Pop coach, but he deserves any opportunity he was given.

Didn't see this from when it was created. I like this thread idea though. Shocked there wasn't more activity on it.

From what I've seen and heard, I don't recall rumors indicating the Suns were interested in Byron Scott initially (not that I've heard about at least). Glad we didn't pursue him. Scott seems to fit better with a veteran team.

Is it possible to add the raptors to the list? I doubt Casey keeps his job with the front office shuffle going on at MLSE. We should know soon is Masai is coming, he will be charged with making the coaching decision.

I'd like to think Tim Leiweke has convinced Phil Jackson to take an advisor role with the raptors and Brian Shaw is our lead head coach candidate going forward.

Clippersfan86
05-30-2013, 02:26 PM
I'll add Casey when it opens up because it's far from a lock. Will have to see what Masai Ujiri does with the front office. Although we can still talk about it in general posts, just not adding to official list yet. Only reason I did the Clippers and Hawks before they officially opened up was because it was pretty much guaranteed. Haven't heard much out of the Raptors about the coaching situation.

I think it'd be pretty funny if they got Hollins... Seems like a good list of guys to go after. Though if they get JVG it kind of kills that theory that CP3 wanted to play for an african american head coach.

I meant more as in just about every coach we could bring in is a gamble of some sort. Shaw is more of a gamble because hes unproven but I like moves like this, tired of seeing these retreads, at least we will try something new. On the flip side, knowing Sterling, if Shaw fails, he will probably remain our coach for awhile. Hes not gonna experiment and cut ties if its not working out. Depends on the money, heres hoping Shaw comes cheap.

Shaw seems like a really smart guy IMO.

Sick and tired of "permission to speak to" ********. Start interviews damn it. Leave it to the Clippers to let it go till the last second when most teams have conducted 3-4 interviews a piece. Anyways Hollins was given permission to speak to the Clippers but NOT the Nets. Weird.

People don't understand it takes at least a week or two AFTER hiring the coach to fill the rest of the staff+meet with players to go over game plan and prepare for the draft. This final hour crap is annoying considering the draft is in like 21 days.

Interesting note, the Memphis Grizzlies refused permission to allow the Nets to speak with Lionel Hollins, but have allowed the Clippers to.

Does this mean the Grizzlies want to keep him?

OR are they trying to persuade Brian Shaw, who supposed first choice is to return to LA (as the Clippers coach) to stay in the Eastern Conference?

Either way, I figured it fits here since it deals with 2 (possibly 3) coaching vacancies.

Haha and sorry ClippersFan, yes, it's more "permission ********."
