lol Random...

Tom Gores’ vow to use every available resource to restore the Pistons to greatness has led him to Phil Jackson, who has agreed to serve in an advisory capacity in the franchise’s search for a head coach.

“Phil Jackson is a friend and one of the best minds in the business,” Gores said. “We are thrilled to have him as an adviser as we make some very important decisions for this franchise. Joe (Dumars) and I discussed this and he and I are in full agreement that this is a great opportunity.”

A spokesman for Gores indicated that this is an advisory role and not a formal position inside the Pistons organization. Joe Dumars, president of basketball operations, said he welcomes Jackson’s input.

“Tom and I discussed using a consultant as part of our decision-making process in our search for a head coach and we feel that Phil Jackson is a great resource to use,” Dumars said. “I look forward to talking with Phil next week.”

He should coach the Pistons instead so he can unleash 'The Drummond'.

This was unexpected but pretty awesome. Shaw does deserve his own gig eventually lol!

Shaw or McMillan

Yes. Shaw. I liked him as a player and I'm sure he'd be a solid coach, but that said, I'm not sure the Pistons have the personal to make the triangle work. Maybe if we have Iggy and Curry... :-)

Wonder how much $ Jackson gets for doing this?

If Jackson were to get the FO job that he wanted as well and that new team wanted a HC...its gonna be awkward for PJ to pick a coach for the team he works for and to pick a coach for the team he advises...

But one source close to the situation told ESPN.com that Jackson's willingness to counsel Gores and Pistons president Joe Dumars as they weigh candidates to replace the ousted Lawrence Frank is an unpaid consultancy stemming from Jackson's friendship with Gores

Jackson's arrangement with the Pistons, according to sources, is an "act of friendship."

I'm still under the impression Phil will keep Brian Shaw for his full time job in Toronto.

Ya, I'm biased.

I can just imagine Phil though: "Well, I think the best coach available is me, and signing me to a three year/45 million dollar deal while also giving me a 10% share in the team is really your best option. Other than that, maybe Brian Shaw."

@WojYahooNBA: Y! Sources: San Antonio assistant Mike Budenholzer has emerged as a candidate for Detroit's head coaching job. http://t.co/0kTlOAR1hG

Sort of surprised, always figured he'd take the reigns once Pop left. He's been with him every year since Pop arrived. (which could still be the case)
