Rangers in 7.....I think this is gonna be a great series really, I think you're all gonna feel about Dorsett like you did about Prust and hopefully Clowe gets back because this is his time of year. Pumped boys!

J4KOP99
04-29-2013, 12:50 PM
Let's go Rangers!

-Any news on Staal? And is Dorsett confirmed for game 1? How about Clowe?

I'm not one for making predictions but I like the match up with the Caps. That's not to say that the series won't go the distance. Just look at what happened last year.

We have to play our game and Nash/Hank have to lead us.

Thursday night cannot come soon enough...

SLY WILLIAMS

I predict DelZotto scores 6 points in game 1!!! :)

I wish they started the playoffs on Wed. Thursday does seem far but it will help our injured players.

What are the lines you guys would use?

Well it certainly looks like Boyle and Clowe won't be a part of game 1.

I really hope Clowe comes back for this series as we can certainly use his presence. Dorsett is still in a non contact jersey but i am sure he will be cleared soon.

As for Staal, like BSI said, he is getting shifts with Girardi in practice so i am sure he will ready.

Zipay also reported they had Haley taking shifts on the 4th line.

This game feels like it will never get here after so many games in the last two months.

IAmARanger18

Clowe and Boyle traveled with the team, Clowe may be in the lineup tomorrow, you would think if he was concussed he wouldn't be on a plane, I think we may be inserted in the lineup, but very late tomorrow.

And oh yeah ONE MORE DAY BOYS!!!

Gonna be a great series, getting a win tonight might ensure this doesn't go 7. Need to get to Holtby early and shatter his confidence.

SLY WILLIAMS
05-02-2013, 02:23 PM
I'm hoping for a fun and exciting series. Last year the Caps were more of a defensive team. This season under Adam Oates they reportedly tried to open things up a bit. They said that led to AO really coming around again. I'm hoping that Lundy will help us come out on top if it becomes a more open series.

SLY WILLIAMS
05-02-2013, 02:48 PM
Marc Staal will not be playing tonight. I know some people were hopeful for tonight and I did not want to dash those hopes but when he said he was not ruling out the Cap series earlier this week I figured he knew he would not be ready for game 1.

They are dumping the puck into Washington's zone nice during shift changes...that pretty much sums up their offense so far.

The quality if chances isn't even close. The Rangers are really good at taking mediocre shots and placing them on the goalie's chest.

The quality if chances isn't even close. The Rangers are really good at taking mediocre shots and placing them on the goalie's chest.

That's another thing. Look at the numbers all you want but how many of our shots were actual good shots? Not many. The shots that do not get blocked are usually right at the goalie without anyone in front to screen.

This looks exactly like last year. However, if Clowe and Boyle can come back that can change a lot. Right now, we have no big bodies on our top 3 lines. We need to be more physical in game 2.

J4KOP99
05-02-2013, 10:03 PM

That sums it up. Nash has the top right corner wide open and he throws it dead center.

We need players back or we're going down like the O'Doyles from Billy Madison.

I like to remind myself that the bruins won the Cup with a horrible PP,but that is not the norm. We have ALL been saying it all year we need to get the power play going,5on 3 produced nothing and then they score two quickies Ugh

runnermjr1296
05-02-2013, 10:23 PM
and also Hank was great in the first but those last two goals were weak and unfortuntley every goal is huge in the playoffs, there is no room for error

SLY WILLIAMS
05-02-2013, 10:25 PM
Holtby was the better goalie tonight and usually that is the key to playoff games. All they did was hold home ice so far. Lets steal one on Saturday.

nyr2002nyr
05-02-2013, 10:34 PM

I think Clowe plays tomorrow and we bench Pyatt. Kreider-Brass-Clowe would be a solid line, has a mix of everything. And feeling a huge bounce back game for Hank, think he may shut out the Caps, just gotta score and get on em early.

J4KOP99
05-04-2013, 01:47 PM
Forget the caps, we're basically playing against ourselves with this ultra-conservative style of play. I can't tell if our strong play at the end of the year was due to actual strong play or just the fact that we were playing against ****** teams... most likely the latter.

Fingerbang said it, we have 1 goal in 4+ periods and even that goal was lucky. We rarely get legitimate chances and when that happens, our guys can't put the puck in the net. Same old ****.

It seemed like torts let the guys open things up toward the end of the season. That is not the case in the playoffs.

-And what's all this love for Dorsett? The guy has done jack **** so far and has taken 2 terrible penalties.

J4KOP99
05-04-2013, 01:49 PM
I would say the Caps get a great scoring chance every other time down.

Swift n Sil3nt
05-04-2013, 01:50 PM
Our offensive opportunities are non existent. We will not win if we can't muster a 2-3 goals per game. It's just pathetic with the talent that we have on this team that we rely on misdirection and lucky bounces.

The dump and chase has to stop. We don't have the defensive talent with Staal out to execute it as effectively. With Nash, Callahan, Stepan, and Richards, this team simply should be scoring more.

The lack of offense is solely on Tortorellas style of play. We play post season type hockey sacrificing the body in the regular season, which is great. Unfortunately, every team plays that type of hockey in the playoffs, yet no one is as limited as we are offensively or on the powerplay.

I disagree. His style is working for us but our players make stupid decisions and don't finish when they get a chance to do something.

J4KOP99
05-04-2013, 02:03 PM
Didn't we learn last year that this style won't cut it in the post season? It relies too much on luck. You can't win the stanley cup when every series is a 7 game series. Your guys will be worn out by the ECF... just like last year.

Swift n Sil3nt
05-04-2013, 02:04 PM
I disagree. His style is working for us but our players make stupid decisions and don't finish when they get a chance to do something.

I completely disagree. You won't win many games when you don not generate offense. We simply do not generate enough offense. There is no flow or consistency. While it may be tough, hard-nosed hockey, we are unable to come back from a deficit with this style of play. There are games where we break out, and they tend to coincide with the games where we get the bounces and loose pucks, but we dont play to space. Our powerplay has no movement. The Capitals get a scoring opportunity once every minute or two. We get one or two per period. Law of averages doesn't like that.

Well, this is what to expect when every game is a 3-2 grind out. It doesn't give the guys, especially Lundqvist any room for error or rest.

I don't think the Rangers are going to get past the Caps by opening it up and trading odd man rushes.

While I agree with that, we never trade odd man rushes with anyone. Well we do, but it's more like robbery than anything else. We do ten for one trades. And that's unacceptable with the offense we have. We not open it up. That's why I was so excited for Miller, Kreider, and Hagelin. They can all fly. Only one is with the team in the playoffs, and after last years run with Kreider, I am quite disappointed

Here's the difference.
-In the regular season, the physical brand of hockey works. Blocking shots work. People do it. People just do not do it to the consistency of the Rangers.
-In the playoffs, everyone plays that brand of hockey. The Capitals are just attacking. They are playing to win. We are playing to "try" and create chances. Do or do not. There is no try. No urgency on this team.

I would not fire Slats. I think he is one of the top GMs in the business. If I go in to every season thinking we should definitely make the playoffs and have a chance to do some damage then I view the GM as having done a good job getting talent on the ice. There is only one trade that I did not agree with in recent history and most fans loved that trade so I assume I was wrong about it. The Caps only have to play half ice against us. There is no danger of any long passes that we were throwing in the last few weeks of the season. Their dmen can pinch all day long without fear usually while our dmen often have to drop back to guard against those long stretch passes. We are like a football team that runs all the time so the other teams start to stack 8 players in the box. Occasionally we have to take a shot down field. Hopefully we hit the pass but even if we don't we let the other team know they better loosen up and guard the full field.

You're not the only one Sly, but I feel like I was expecting this in a way. I didnt feel confident in this team the whole season, and I certainly didnt change my mind because of their 8-3-1 stretch to end the season.

The team obviously lacks some things that make up a "team" and without beating a dead horse I'm not going to keep repeating it. I would however like to see some changes heading into next season, though I suspect they will make a minor move or two and head into camp status quo (I hope I'm wrong). The biggest change of course is Richards, he needs to be shown the door, with the shrinking cap a player cannot earn that much and produce so little.

Oh and of course I just dont see the coaching staff matching the players, they have the talent to open things up a bit but still play that snooze-fest counter game. I love intensity, forechecking and pressure but it just seems like they can do more and are reigned in a bit. And the power play? :pity: disgrace...

I saw this team quit several times during the season BUT when they played hard they usually won. I was worried about their effort because of that, but this team is trying. I did not expect them to try and lose. We are not playing the same way we played in the last 3 weeks. We have gone back to being scared to take many chances and playing not to lose. I'm hoping that changes in the next game. The only goal we have got so far in 2 games on a real hockey play (a legit shot not a bank of somebodies skates) was the Moore goal that almost for sure crossed the goal line but was not caught on video.

I wish people would stop saying fire Torts and Fire Slats. Lets remember that It's NOT Torts or Slats that take stupid penalties, shoot wide, Overpass, underpass, making blind behind the back passes, not shooting when they should, shooting when they shouldn't, playing soft, not getting enough players in front to the net to screen the opposing goalie, Not Hank, to clear out our own crease with some authority, TO PROTECT HANK, Last year when the team did what they were supposed to do everyone loved Torts. Sather signs Gaborik, Richards and makes some great trades Everybody loves Slats. The team goes south and rather than blame the players they blame both Slats and Torts. Also a big factor is injuries, when someone gets injured other players are supposed to step up and that doesn't happen often enough. Torts is a hell of a good coach check out his record.

Coaches and GM's never take shots or make passes on the ice but at some point most of them get fired. That is just part of the job in professional sports.

Tortorella has a regular season coaching record of 171-118-29 and a playoff record of 14-20 as NY Rangers coach

And there in lies the problem, consistent effort. Any team that considers themselves "contenders" don't have issues like that on a consistent basis and I can't help but to point the finger at the coaching staff. I'm not saying it's totally their fault because a professional athlete has no excuse to not give a total effort, but I do feel like perhaps this staff is A. not good enough or B. doesnt match up well with the talent on hand, either way this team has been mediocre since Torts & Co. took over with the exception of last year.

I know Brad's 1st 2 seasons as a ranger have not come close to meeting expectations based on that hefty contract... But in Brad's defense, if he didn't play the way he did down the stretch the last couple of weeks of the season, the rangers would be at home right now watching the playoffs on tv with the rest of us.

That contract will never do his justice, but the fact of the matter is that the whole team outside of our goalie (and perhaps Stepan) underachieved and could've played better this year. Literally everybody else.

You know what, it's not even about the contract. Most sane people knew he was never going to live up to that but the way he has fallen off a cliff is beyond mind-boggling. He is no more than a 3C on most night and that is just unacceptable.

The one thing I will say about the contract is that the team simply cannot afford to pay someone as much as Brad is getting and still be "competitive" in the eastern conf with a shrinking cap. To have a 6.6 against the cap for a guy who looks as toast as he does simply cant happen.
