View Full Version : What is your squads All-Decade team

Chronz

Im stretching decade abit, but from 2000 till now, what were the best players your team has had at every position?

Trying to see which teams had the best talent at different positions.

You can choose to add players you think give your team the best chance of winning if you wish. Like if Im Memphis, I'd much rather have Shane Battier instead of Rudy Gay, regardless of what some metrics may say.

Feel free to tinker with positions, Im not going to put Kaman or DJ at Center when I know Brand can do just fine.

Clippers lineup:

CP3
Mobley
Butler
Blake
Brand

Thats pretty sad considering its an All-Decade team.

Are we taking best talent in their prime or assuming the talent level is that of when they played on our squad?

2005 Stephon Marbury
2000 Allan Houston
2000 Latrell Sprewell
2013 Carmelo Anthony
2012 Tyson Chandler

I was torn between 2000 Sprewell or 2010 David Lee, and moving Melo to SF. I'm feelin' the small ball lineup.

Also torn between a young, athletic and budding 2000 Camby, an aged and hobbled 2000 Ewing, and Tyson's best pro season and DPOY campaign. I think Camby's shotblocking and athleticism would fit well with these guys and initiate some hellish breaks but Tyson's 2012 campaign was capable of covering up for a lot of defensive holes, which this team would have. I think Spree and Tyson would be enough to keep them competitive defensively and I would sprinkle defensive vets all over the bench.

I also hate having Marbs on here, but really couldn't justify putting Ward, Felton, Lin, or ****ing Duhon over him. Yes, the Knicks PG situation has been THAT bad. I think Ward would work as a defender and spot shooting PG, while Spree and Melo initiated most of the offense. But Marbs was 20-8 in 2005, he was a looney toon but hands down the most talented PG we've had in a long long time.

i liked doc's roster management. it was almost ahead of his time. i'm all about positionless basketball...kinda like spoelistra is publically touting.

doc got little to no love in orlando. most people doubted his ability when he was hired by boston, but he's made the doubters look foolish.

but miller's best years weren't in orlando. i loved him (i was a gator fan before i was a magic fan...mike miller was a big reason why i became a die hard magic fan) and while grant missed a ton of time, he still had the best year between the two in 2005.

and i'm not picking players on their prime...picking them based on their prime's with said team. as should everyone else.

Great talent, but part of this should be about how well you think the team would mesh. Still, he was so talented it may not even matter, but with Tmac and Harden, would you really want another Ball handler who cant really stretch it? I guess Harden could revert back to the role he played alongside Westbrook and Durant so you might have a point.

But if I really had to choose a squad for them, I think I might just leave out a PG, roll with Harden+Tmac in the backcourt, and Shane Battier as the glue. They are a tough team to figure out

I think people forget how good the Lakers were in 2001 then add Nash(even at this poin in his career) Pau(when he was at his best as a Laker) with prime Shaq and prime Kobe, plus a MWP from his first year in LA.

With a bench of a very serviceable Payton, defensive minded Ariza, Odom in the 6th man role that he excelled at in LA, a very good Malone still, and DWIGHT HOWARD with Fox and Horry for veteran leadership, shot making, and defense.

Caron Butler could also replace Ariza or Fox, but I like the makeup of the team I listed better

I think this team takes any all decade team easily

Imagine the defense when you at some point have

PG- (2012) Tony Parker (would have been this year if not for injury) honorable mention- 2007

SG- (2005) Manu Ginobili. Dude was unreal in the finals.

SF-(2007) Bruce Bowen. Guarded Nash, Dirk, and Lebron in the post season. 2006 was very good as well

PF- (2003) Tim Duncan. Hard to pick just one year because he is mr consistent, but what he did in 2003 was pretty incredible. DRob was in the last year of his career, Parker was a 19 year old rookie and Steven Jackson was probably the 2nd best player on that team. TD litterally carried the Spurs to a championship. Dominant

C- (2000) David Robinson. I think 2001 was where he missed some time because of injury, but I dont remember. DRob was still playing at a high level in the best front court in the NBA. Some guy named Shaq came along though.

That's true, but prime Shaq would get most of the post passes. I'd rather have Howard on the team for defense and rebounding, but you can't really go wrong. I might even keep both and drop Fisher. I'd keep Fisher, he had that one year where the Lakers struggled without him while he was injured, came back and shot lights out in the playoffs. But my friend says that was also the year he began losing his ability to check quicker players (I dont know how true that is tho)

GP was underrated IMO, too many trash him without considering the immense load he carried for LA, he was their most durable player and was prolly spent come playoff time. Nash, well injured players shouldn't be applicable, we really dont know much about them. But if you feel he was better than D-Fish when completely healthy, then go for it. But I see a defensive sieve to attack and wear down.

Fisher was just never much of a distributor. I guess they would be running the triangle and a playmaking PG wouldn't be super necessary. I guess I would take Fish over Nash, Fish took a lot of big charges in his day

Jason Kidd (Nash was better in Dallas than Kidd. Kidd fits better)
Michael Finley
Shawn Marion
Dirk
Tyson Chandler

The 3 was tough. Josh Howard and Antawn Jamison. Also Dirk could play the 3 and Juwan Howard had some good seasons at 4 with Dirk playing the 3.

LaMarcus Aldridge

Damon Stoudemire

Arvydas Sabonis

I think the first 5 would be a nasty team but the bench would be incredibly thin at G but we would have a great Big rotation.

It seems like outside of Roy (and hopefully Lillard) all the talent to come through Portland played primarily PF...

Not really. Williams plays SG for Nets when Watson is on the floor so he is more than capable of playing it. Malone is big and strong enough to play C as well.

IKnowHoops

Tim Hardaway (2000)/ Jason Williams (2006)
Dwyane Wade (2006 or 2009)
LeBron James (2013)
Chris Bosh (2012)
Shaquille O'Neal (2005)/ Alonzo Mourning (2000)

Tim Hardaway is one of my favorite players, and its a shame he tore his ACL and had a bit of his game taken away. Golden state Tim was arguable better than Chris Paul. That being said, If the heat could have 97 or 98 Tim on this team, they would be the best team no doubt. If not I'd probably go

Pg Lebron 13 26.8 7.3ast 8rbs
SG Wade 09 30.pts 7.5ast 5rbs
SF Bosh 12 18.7pts 8.3rbs
PF Alonzo 00 21.7pts 9.5 rbs
C Shaq 23 pts 10rbs

And they still destroy. To big, and still to fast. To everything. This team would crush.

WadeKobe

Which year would you feel is their best?

Years they were with the team?

Shaq ('04-'05)
Bosh (12-13)
James (12-13)
Wade (08-09)
Chalmers (12-13)

This team would be better than the one with Williams. This team doesn't need a ball-handler at PG, they need a shooter. Chalmers gets out of the way better than Williams ever did, is a far superior defender, and the better 3-point shooter. Williams would turn the ball over too much and try to have it too much.

Thoughts on Zo?

Zo was a monster pre-kidney problems. However, in the last decade (04-13) he was a shell of his former self. I'd definitely have him coming off the bench giving strong bench production like he did in the playoffs when we won in '06. Anything more than that would be too big of a role for the production he gave us during the time frame in question.

In the end, I'd have Ray Allen, Alonzo Mourning, Shane Battier and Chris Andersen coming off the bench. No team would be able to put together a squad to beat them.

If we're going back to 2000....

C - Shaq (04-05)
F - Zo (00-01)
F - Bosh (12-13)
G - LeBron (12-13)
G - Wade (08-09)

Bench:

Eddie Jones (00-01)
Tim Hardaway (00-01)
Ray Allen (12-13)
Chris Andersen (12-13)

No one could beat that team. The versatility they'd have with lineups would be ridiculous with that many bigs, as well as with the versatility of Bosh/Wade/James. James can play 4 different positions Bosh 3, and Wade 2, and you wouldn't need ball handlers with Wade or James almost always in the game.

Well what can i say? The Bucks haven't been very good. Can't make a good All-Decade'ish team that's good when the team has sucked this whole time. And how is that worse?
