NEW YORK -- The NBA is considering the idea of splitting the 2015 All-Star weekend between the Knicks and Nets.

Deputy commissioner Adam Silver says the league is holding discussions with both New York teams and they are open to a joint bid.

The Nets play at the $1 billion Barclays Center that opened in September, while the Knicks' Madison Square Garden will have completed the last phase of a three-year renovation by then.

Silver said Friday during a conference call that the league would divide its events between the two sites. The All-Star Game is played on Sunday night, while the Rookie Challenge is played on Friday and the slam dunk and 3-point contests are part of All-Star Saturday night.

The league held the Friday and Saturday events at the Dallas Mavericks' arena in 2010 and staged the All-Star Game inside Cowboys Stadium.

This won't work because places would want to host the All star game, that's all it matters in the all star weekend.

They should just solely do it at Brooklyn or MSG, joint is stupid imo.
Either promote the new stadium in Brooklyn or go to the real NY team.
Pretty simple.

That'd be a good idea.

I know. Because playing basketball in the freezing cold during a February night is such a good idea.

Now, now DMF. You have to learn to share with your big brother. Don't throw a tantrum.

So go through the trouble of setting up a structure to ensure warm temperatures that'll cover like 15,000 seats out of the over 50,000 seats in Met Life Stadium instead of using the arena available in the Barclay Center.

Genius.

Wrestlemania had a roof for rain in April.

During February when temperatures will hover between 14 to 50 F in New York, you're going to need more than a roof to keep temperatures warm enough where players would want to play. Why would the NBA even do that when there's 2 (or more) arenas in the city of New York that are already usable for NBA purposes.

2 Different Teams

2 Different Arenas

2 Different Boroughs

No need to share the weekend.

I guess they just have to decide whether they want atmosphere and tradition.... or shiny paint, a russian and a flat brim rapper.

I honestly dont see the big deal of hosting Allstar weekend. If the Nets or Knicks had broke ownership and needed the revenue thats 1 thing but your talking about 2 of the richest franchises in all of sports. Allstar weekend is basically a place for Rappers and Ball players to knock up groupies. I would never waste money on that garbage.

LOL your acting like it means something. As if fans who truly wanted to go wouldn't travel the 5 extra minutes into either city and vice versa. It means nothing.

I agree it means nothing, I could care less if they hold it here. But there is no need to share all star weekend between division rivals. Nets are the new team in town, may as well give it to them.

Can't wait till Warriors' new arena is built on Pier 30 in SF. Will be the best arena with the best location in the NBA.

Real NY team? Oh please get over yourself a little bit. Both teams play in New York.... The Knicks have won 2 playoff games in the past 10 years in NY, the Nets have won 1 already in their first year. They're both NY teams.
