Plus it looks like we may get two NBC games. Too bad they are both against the Devils.

Figures it sounds like I missed a good game. Only saw the 3rd. I was at the gun shop :)

It was not a perfect game. We took some chances. Many of the chances did not connect but I loved that we did not go back to a bunch of conservative play. We kept attacking. Now we just need more Kreider and less Boyle/Pyatt. It was a fun game to watch.

Torts says he's worried bout J.T. Miller (7:08 ice time) & Chris Kreider (3:23). Not mad, just not sure he always can trust 'em in close gms

I tend to agree with him but that's what you get with young players. It's just too bad we didn't have a full season with the two of them to let them work on their flaws, the shortened season and our failure to get further up the standings are forcing the coaches hand to put players he trusts on the ice when the game is on the line.

We really need to not land in that 8th spot, playing the Pens the first round isn't ideal. I know we lost all games to the Canadiens this year but I'd rather that match up I think.

We have 7 fwds (Cally-Step-Nash-Zooks-Richards-Gabs-Hags) that should play almost every 3rd shift in my opinion. I think Kreider has played better than Miller and Boyle lately but since Torts trusts Boyle I think he will play. I really do not want to see much of the 4th line or the 5th-6th dmen right now. I think the forwards could thrive by playing 3 lines more often. I would keep Powe dressed as a penalty killer. I think Pyatt-Boyle-Miller have been pretty bad.

I would just roll:

Cally-Step-Nash
Zooks-Richards-Gabs
Hags-Boyle-Kreider

Forget the 4th line as much as possible.

Depends on goaltending for me. I'd just rather face the weaker goalie or whoever is not hot. We do not have to settle for 8th. 13 games is almost a 3rd of the season.

I'm ok with that and I think by the looks of things that's what we'll see. We don't generally use the 4th line much anyway. I thought Gaborik had one of his better games in a while tonight. We really need him going, as much as people dump on him and Richards we aren't going anywhere without them, they need to be better and they looked better tonight for the most part, I know Richards missed a couple chances but atleast they were competing and getting chances.

I think that was the year they brawled all series and set records for pims in a playoff and Quebec came out on top in the end. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Peter Stastny put them out with a breakaway goal? Is that correct NYSPORTS?

Hartford upset the Nords in 86. The payback came a year later as the Nords turing the series into a hockey war. They lost the first two games but wore out the Whale by unleashing a physical attack all series long. Yeah, Stastny ended it.

Not as violent but he Isles did the same thing to the Pens when the unleashed Kasparitis and Malakov in the early 90's. The Pens had no answer for the attack.

I'm ok with that tactic, in a sense of the way today's game works, but I don't think this team has that in them.

Pittsburgh is no push-over either. Especially adding 3 hard-nosed guys in Iginal, Morrow and Murray.

We have nobody for that type of game other than Asham. Boyle isn't scaring anyone. We've gotten a lot weaker in the toughness department from last year. Remember when we had the line brawl against the devils last year with Prust, Bickel, Rupp, Dubinsky all on the ice? Who'd we put out tonight? Boyle.............crickets.

A lot of fans and some media people feel the same way you do. Last night it did seem like Miller was sat after his miscue but I can not understand why Kreider is being benched so often. I think we need him on that 3rd line.

I'm so infatuated in the idea of having Dubi back right now... Gaborik for Dubi and our 1st back?! That would be awesome

Honestly I don't think Columbus would do that deal. I think they feel they made out ok in that deal and a 1st round pick that should have been a 26th-30th just became a mid pack pick in a strong draft year.

Clowe will most likely be in the lineup tomorrow, look for one of Miller/Kreider to be sent down or Boyle/Pyatt/Asham to be dealt before the 3PM dead line tomorrow.

That's perhaps why Sportsnet's Nick Kypreos said to "look for [the] Rangers to dump some [salary] before 3 p.m." tomorrow. He also reported Clowe will be given an extension.

Lots of interest in Boyle

Yeah, that's the problem is that they have made out just fine with the deal I think. And of all pieces I have to assume Dubinsky has worked out best with them barring the Rangers plumetting further and the pick becoming a high one.

Funny how 24 hours ago I was clamoring at the idea of adding Dubi back, and now that we have Clowe I am completely fine. I like the Clowe addition and I think it's highly more likely he bounces back then continues down this path.

Richards with 2 assists having a good period as well.

I just realized Boyle has more points (3) tonight than in the previous 30 plus games. I bet he is happy!

Think it's fairly obvious that Miller and Kreider weren't ready for the NHL yet. They will be good players some day, just not this year.

He was in the practice facility today with the team and was working out, also saw his new helmet with the visor on it.

my buddy and I used to play franchise mode in NHL when we were younger so after the gaborik trade I immediately texted him "That is not a trade that would ever cross our minds." Maybe Gaborik and something else for Malkin... but this? no way.

A complete game, with great fore-checking, defensemen attacking on the rush and plenty of secondary scoring, couldn't ask for much better. Of course the greatest gain was on the PP. We should have been 4-4, I don't know how Powe missed the empty net from 2-feet out - lol!

It would have been nice for Powe and Mats to get their first goals too. Boyle had a career night, maybe a combination of playing with new linemates, playing the wing or most importantly relieved to still be on the team.

I know we won't score 5-6 goals per game, but aside from Stepan's assist, we didn't get any scoring from our top line. You have to love the secondary scoring, special teams and complete game effort by all. I hope it continues!

I think this is the turning point of the season, we need to carry this momentum into Pitt tomorrow and do it all over again, just completely outplay them again and keep pouring it on, though I expect us to see Vokuon tomorrow, a goalie we tend to struggle against.

But honestly, we are now 3 lines deep with a decent 4th line to grind it out. Boyle's play will improve now that he has Hagelin and Brassard on his line, two young, fast players who do everything. Finally Boyle has woke up, I guess it is because the trade dead line has passed.

metswon69
04-04-2013, 04:50 PM
We just outworked Pittsburgh last night and it was very obvious. We played harder, we hit better, and we showed some toughness.

They didn't let the Penguins skill players get a ton of open ice and they look like a team determined.

I know some can say the Pens didn't have Martin, Letang, and Crosby but the Rangers outplayed Pittsburgh from start to finish last night.

Zooks has used a different move overseas that I saw on video. I'm okay with that move but I'd like to see him step back 6 inches and try to roof it once he gets back to the forehand. Fluery is a pretty flexible goalie. Jussis move on Lundy was super fast.

Can't afford a let down against Carolina. They have lost 3 straight and actually have a better road record than home record. At least if we go to a shoot out, Jokinen is no longer on the Canes roster. He has one of the best shoot out percentages in the league.

I would have never predicted getting 3 out of a possible 4 points from the Pittsburg home and home series, but can't have a let down against a team on the ropes like the Canes!

Added:

FYI: Martin Biron started both games in Raleigh last season, winning 5-3 and 3-2, and is on an incredible 9-0-0 run in his last ten starts in Raleigh with a 2.17 goals against average - NOT BAD!

Maybe some of the guys are burnt out, it's been a pretty long week for them. After we're ahead by a couple goals maybe the coach wanted to save our players for our games against Toronto while at the same time giving Boyle some ice to get some confidence back, who knows?

I really liked that the team is playing more offensive. I can live with more risk and more chances. "safe is death" is a quote a coach made once upon a time. :)

We have a better team now. We had atleast three guys that shouldn't have been playing for us at this point. We added another mobile defenseman something that was sorely needed. As I said before when people were talking about getting rid of Tortorella, my biggest concern was that we'd get rid of Tortorella only to find out that we had a mediocre team that was coached into a top spot in the East last year. I think with the player changes and the success since the arrival of Zuccarello, Brassard, Clowe and Moore it's pretty apparent that it wasn't the coaches problem that we were losing and it might have been the only reason we were still in a playoff hunt.

Does Torts have an old enough daughter that Boyle is dating or something?

LOL I believe he does but the conventional wisdom is that Boyle has some dirty pictures of Torts or that he bought him a lifetime supply of JAM for his bday. :)

WOW!!! That is dedication. I'm impressed!

I'm glad you got to see a win.

Playing Boyle almost twice as much as Zooks and 5 minutes more than Nash seemed ridiculous to me watching on TV. I have been a Boyle supporter in the past but we are not going to win a cup if Torts plays Boyle like he is the reincarnation of Cam Neely.

I was wondering during the game myself why Boyle was getting so much time to be honest. The team looked great in person and to be honest new players or not they all seemed to be skating with purpose and with speed not seen for most of the season on any consistent basis.

He never left :hi5:

This..

He's 5th in the league in GAA, 3rd in save %, 7th in PP save %, and 3rd in saves this year.

Typical Lundqvist type season.

The only strike on his resume is not having a shutout.

What sucks is that he won't make the 30 win mark this year, something he's done every years since he came in.

The worst part is one of the people i work with is a Devil's fan who says Lundqvist is overrated because he hasn't won a Cup. He also tries to say the Rangers save Lundqvist by blocking so many shots.

But he completely dismisses the neutral zone trap when i bring it up to him in regards to the Devils and their past success.

I have found all goaltenders win totals to be over rated nowadays. It is not their fault but their totals do benefit from the shootout wins where goalies in the past before the shootout would get ties.

It likely has very little to do with size (pun intended). Really though it shows just how little Torts trusts Zooks on the defensive end. He didn't play in the OT against the Canes for the same reason. I guess size does matter!

They're having a hard time getting the puck to the slot area, all our shots coming from the outside.
