View Full Version : Lakers a better TEAM without Kobe? Amnesty?

Coming into this game, Laker fans were concerned about the status of their team as Kobe's health was a question mark b/c of the severe sprain. The Lakers record against .500 on the road was a measly 2-16, and many already threw in the towel even before the opening tipoff. Without Kobe, who would lead this team in scoring? Who would take the shot at the end if things remained close?

Fast forward to the final buzzer. Without their superstar (Kobe left after the 1st), the Lakers somehow managed to defeat a very good Pacers team on the road, but even more noteworthy was the way they found a way to squeak out a W. Everyone else on the team suddenly sprung to life. World Peace, Jamison, and Blake played hard, and played well. Nash returned to being the distributor, a role that he obviously favors. Howard clearly outplayed Hibbert and his defensive stops down the stretch were a big factor in this big win.

People say that a picture says a thousand words, but there was clearly something in Howard's smile at the end.

Seemingly out of nowhere, this team, without their revered leader, and in a sense, what many could call their "ultimate life support", just did the unexpected. And they had taken a very different approach to achieve their goal. You could see the joy and excitement in their faces, just like a bird being let out of its cage for the very first time, ready to flap its wings and fly freely, gracefully in the sky. This was clearly the brand of basketball they've been wanting to play for a long time.
