Thats crazy. This is the 2nd time he shot that many free throws. He set the record with the most attempts vs Golden State when is played with the Magic. He made 25 tonight.

Damn. Had school all day so I had to miss the game, but holy ****. Was there an abundance of questionable calls or were most reasonable?

He did well tonight on intentional fouls. 16-20 in that scenario

Nice. and 16-20 on those as well? I know how Stu Lantz says one game doesn't get you in or out of a slump but hot damn that is nice.

That's just a bad strategy. Most guys aren't actually back free throw shooters, like Shaq, Dwight, Duncan, ect, they just don't shoot well if they aren't in a rhythm. You put them at the line over and over, their rhythm gets better and their percentage goes up. On nights when they shoot more, they generally (though not always) shoot better.

Team are smart to use this late in the game, but it is foolish to use it all night... even if he only shoots 50%, you are essentially making sure the other teams gets a point on every trip up the court.

25 for 39? My god that's terrible.

I'll take Dwight shooting 64% from the free throw line any day. That would be great.

Reason why he shot so many was because he was 1-8 to start the game and they just continued to foul him but second half he shot 16-20 which is amazing...

That was horrible. I hate that type of strategy. Its not a competition at that point.

It was fun watching Dwight soak in the boos and hit hem one after another in the second half.

That said, I couldn't be Kobe or Nash or those guys, as they literally just walked up the court and stood in place a lot tonight to watch a ft shooting binge. Horrible for offsensive rhythm

The Orlando Magic are an EMBARASSMENT to the game of basketball. Good for Dwight to knock them down like that.

It is stunning to say the least. However, LA is improving as Dwight becomes more engaged.

It's time for them to finally change the intentional foul rule so that this doesn't happen. It really does harm the competitive nature of the game, to say nothing of the entertainment value.

New rule: If in a ref's best judgment an intentional foul occurs to excess, the ref may impose one or all of the following:

1. Technical foul against the Head Coach that ordered the code red, errr, intentional foul. A second tech will result in said coach being ejected from the game.
2. 2 free throws to be taken by any player of the fouled team's choosing.
3. Possession of the ball to the team that was fouled.
4. Technical foul against the player who commits the intentional foul. A second tech will result in said player being ejected from the game.
5. If intentional fouls occur on consecutive possession, team is automatically placed in the penalty irrespective of the previous number of team fouls accrued. Each foul thereafter, intentional or not, results in the fouled team shooting two free throws and receiving possession of the ball.

I know, I know...none of this will ever fly in the NBA. But I wish that they'd do something to preserve the flow and integrity of the game.

Jacque Vaughn shouldn't be a head coach, he doesn't know how to coach at all.

Really?? Have you seen that roster? Yet they play competitive basketball the entire game. We can't also forget that they've dealt with injury problems. Harkless/Harris/Vucevic/Nicholson are bright spot in that team. Vaughn's been good for them.

Wait you say look at their roster then you name bright spots on their roster, he must have some talent if you named 4 young players as bright spots.

Really D12? Really? They're prospects, which I named because they have shined under Vaughn's tutelage. That team is crap, and you know that when you can only name 4 bright spots out of 14.

orlandos green coach took it way too far.

he was 16-20 on hack a dwight, coach should have taken that out of his game plan after he made ten.

props to dwight for maintaining his focus during an emotional game.

bruh you're an idiot. They were losing by damn 18-20 points in the 4th so why not put a man who has been shooting terrible all career at the line to not only hope for empty trips but to stop the clock? One day you'll learn the game of basketball and strategies that are in it.

Jacque Vaughn is a better coach then Mike D at this point btw.

Kind of a slap in the face to the fans. The place was sold out, the crowd was very emotional and very loud, and the Magic completly took the fans out of the game by making them watch free throws all night. Also a wasted learning experience for the young Orlando team. Instead of getting in game experience on defending Howard, just hug him all night at center court - great idea.

I guess if your team can't compete, it's the only strategy there is. But as bad as the Lakers played earlier in the year, they've never made me watch one guy shooter 39 free throws on the other team. I'm thankful for that. If every team did this garbage it would ruin the league. I think the Lakers should have hacked-a-Magic player in the middle of the 4th just to have nothing but free throws for 5 minutes and expose the problems that this strategy creates for the league.

Theres absolutely nothing wrong with this strategy... if a coach wants to play it that way, so be it, as it was stated before, even the worst free throw shooter will eventually get a rhythm going and should be able to make them. IMO theres no excuse for a professional basketball player to not be able to make 6 outa 10 free throws.
