View Full Version : Should Serge Ibaka be suspended?

Make your case....

I say a 1-2 game suspension is what he deserves for the punch below the belt

Probably. It was obviously intentional and I can't imagine the guys in the league office approve of such a literal "low blow"

I only saw the highlight and not the whole game, so I don't know if anything led up to it which would change my mind, but I honestly didn't think he meant to hit him in the nuts. It seemed like he was trying to break his arm with a chop, and just hit his junk instead.
I will look at it again when im off my phone, and if it looked intentional, 2 games. If unintentional, 1 game. Either way, I think he is getting a suspension.

If he had been ejected in Sunday when the flagrant was called, I don't think he would of deserved a suspension.

but since it was a flagrant 1 and he didn't get ejected, he deserves a one game suspension.

Damn, I rooted for OKC last season because they were playing the heat, but there are some hardheaded cases on that team. Serge is dirty as f---, Dumbbrook is dumbbrook, and scottie brooks is even dumber than dumbbrook. Dumb and dumber.

I wouldn't mind seeing the clips or spurs take OKC down in the playoffs. It'd be terrible for ratings, so stern may not allow it, but without harden, OKC may not have enough to get back to the finals.

haha, good one!

Blake Griffin gets under a lot of guys skin, he is aggressive on the boards and flops around a lot which bothers people. he also posterizes people a lot which isn't appreciated either. I think Ibaka should get suspended a couple games, but I doubt he does. I doubt they do though, because the thunder are the team the nba is trying to build up now

Yes, but I don't want him to as a Laker fan.

I would rather the Lakers beat a full strength OKC than one without Ibaka. We should be the hungrier, more urgent team in this game and if we can't beat them then what's the point of even making a push for the playoffs?

After rethinking it, Ibaka definitely deserves at least a two game suspension for that shot.

BG already gets hacked at enough with hard fouls, but to go for the balls? The league needs to protect him and make an example of Ibaka. We look at Blake like this beast of a man, which he is, but he's also a 23 year old kid.

No suspension coming for Serge Ibaka, I'm told. Fine only for the crotch shot on Blake Griffin.

So Cousins gets 1 game for this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lQPBSI0W9o4

Will Bynum gets 1 game for this- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNR3OBWItMM

But it's looking like Ibaka is going to get away with no punishment other than a fine. Absolutely ridiculous the way the league handles certain punishments.

Hell Even D-Wade got a suspension for kicking Sessions. Maybe Wade got it cause the next opponent was the Pistons (game he missed)

Ibaka has the Lakers tonight and it's on TNT, I guess they have to make sure the stars are present for that one.

Must admit, there are times where it seems like it's true. Westbrook doesn't get techs for a lot of his reactions over bad calls that other players would get.

Yup. Westbrook literally cusses out refs and shows them up with gestures. Durant this year is becoming a douche with refs going after them constantly. It's a miracle they still have the refs su**ing their dicks. On top of that Brooks yells at refs as much as any other coach.

They get away with a ton of **** and I'm getting tired of it. My hatred for OKC grows. Imagine if Artest for example gave a nut shot like this? He would get 3-5 games no question. BTW for those giving examples of recent things that got a suspension how about this one? Barnes got one game for a violent shove on a MUCH bigger player than him. I'd rather a dude shove me hard than hammer fist my nuts.

People are surprised but if you watch closely Ibaka's always been a douche/prick. Maybe not "dirty" normally but he's disrespectful. He's constantly getting in people's faces after blocks yelling "get that **** out of here" even in blowout wins. He just lacks a basic respect for the game.

http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/nba/story/_/id/9020356/blake-griffin-surprised-nba-suspend-serge-ibaka-punch-groin

Blake responds brilliantly.

"From what I heard, I guess he's saying he was just trying to get his hand away from mine," Griffin said. "I actually didn't have his hand. He had my arm, so I don't know how it's going to be interpreted. It is surprising [he won't be suspended], but it is a big game tonight and I don't think they want one of their .. I really don't know. It's a big game."

Griffin stopped short of saying the Thunder's game against the Lakers had something to do with Ibaka only getting a $25,000 fine instead of a suspension, and just smiled when he was asked again.

"I don't know," Griffin said. "I don't know. It's a big game though. It's kind of a mess. It's kind of a tough situation. Whatever the NBA wants to do and however they want to handle it, we'll let them handle it that way."

Kobe Bryant said Monday he would have "smacked [Ibaka] in the mouth" if he were Griffin and "dealt with the pain after."

Griffin, who was on the floor in pain after he was hit in the groin area, said that's not something he would have or even could have done at the time.

"It's not really my job to start running around punching people and hitting people because it doesn't really solve anything. It really just gets myself in trouble, and I don't want that. When something like that happens, I feel it's best to let someone else take care of it because me going and punching somebody isn't really a part of the game.

"I understand what Kobe is saying. You can't really tolerate that, but especially in that point in the game, I didn't need to be getting into a scuffle with the game being on the line and us trying to claw our way back in it."

"I saw some of Kendrick's comments, and they didn't make sense to me, to be honest," Griffin said. "I think what he was trying to say is I was grabbing his jersey and I started it all and I deserved to be hit where I was hit.

"But if I started swinging every time I got my jersey tugged at, I probably would be swinging on every single play."

I tried to tell my fellow Lakers fans that this would happen...

It's hard for us to see the change as we have been the nba's golden boy for so long... those days are over though. Stern didn't want anything to be taken away from tonight's big game... ironically enough, he has made it an even bigger situation than it previously was.

The NBA is not rigged but there is also no consistency from Stern or the league office. This non-suspension is a joke. Pathetic is the only way I can describe it.

Funny comment by somebody on the article and so true.

NBA should have to issue statements regarding decisions like this. It makes zero sense. I don't think its because Stern wants the Thunder to beat the Lakers and doesn't want them to be missing a star, I think he doesn't want the casual fan or the older generation 'college basketball purist' type fan tuning in to catch a marquee game seeing clips of why the best defensive player on the Thunder is suspended for the game. It would be a major talking point and a black eye for the league and the perception of its players, but now its going to be a big talking point regardless because of the reaction to the non-suspension. Lose lose for Stern, he should have done the right thing.

I'm more surprised that Barnes, Odom or one of our other goons didn't lowbridge him on the next play. I bet the regret it now considering Ibaka got no punishment. All I know is... I pray to God that we get OKC in the playoffs. It would suck so bad to not get to play them. I know some retaliation on the court is in order both in terms of hard fouls and victories.

this pisses me off, metta gets a flag 2 over something unintentional, this jerk gets a 25k suspension for obviously trying to hit griffin. He never looked at the person with the ball, never looked up at griffin, never tried to get his body into positoin or back him out, he was trying to hit him.

Thats the thing the NBA has previously set the precedence for preferential treatment and or biased treatment because of who you are. See Ron Artest being suspended a game for glancing Brandon Knight vs. Ibaka being fined for punching a dude square in the nuts.

The Lakers being vetoed out of the Chris Paul trade "for basketball reasons" when that offer would have fielded a much more competitive team and still set up nicely for the future is another example.

This league has no integrity. Will be interesting to see how things change once the evil empire and David Stern are out.

Stern could care less. But yea he will be ripped.. He's been ripped before CP3 deal, Dress Code, Lockout etc, The dude doesn't give a ****. He will still sleep comfortably at night in piles of money regardless of what people say about him.

The veto of the CP3 trade was such a joke. I agree with you though, the NBA seems to have too much leeway in how they can interpret a rule and issue a penalty. They go strictly by the book in some situations (like stepping 6 inches off the sideline in a 'brawl' and getting suspended playoff games) and completely use their own discretion in others resulting in lopsided penalties for the same freakin' offenses.

I mean Lee gets suspended for pushing Hibbert 3 days after Tyson shoved Hawes probably more aggressively with no fine or penalty. Pop gets suspended for doing something he's done every year for the past 10 years. The same sort of **** trickles down to the way the game is officiated - you have violations that occur everytime down the court but the refs have free reign to only call them when they feel like it (travel, 3 seconds, carry violations, delay of game, and a technical that ranges from looking at a ref wrong to punting a ball to the upper deck). They are permitted to referee games strict and call every touch foul or let them maul eachother with no rhyme or reason behind it, and it ****ing changes from quarter to quarter.

It just doesn't make any sense and it gives you a sense of the totalitarian dictatorship-like league that the players seem to vent their frustrations about whenever they get the opportunity. There doesn't even seem like a 'book' to go by, just do what Stern feels like doing on that particular day.

I believe once they make the decision it's over with. But there are crazy double standards. I mean wade got suspended a game for kicking sessions in the groin I believe (and he deserved it) and ibakas was just as bad and the fine is like $150K less with no suspension.

Remember, Wade appealed his suspension/fine for Sessions groin kick. Ibaka ruling means he likely will get everything back but missed game.
