View Full Version : Should the Lakers propose a Howard for Asik/Chandler Parsons deal?

My friend and I were discussing this. Would this be a good trade?

I think it is a def good trade for LA.

Imagine,

Nash
Kobe
Parsons
Gasol
Asik

Not sure the Rockets would do this though, but having Dwight with Harden is insane too. I think it can be a win-win for both teams.

Nope. We could just sign him outright.

That's a perfect deal for both teams.

Nash
Kobe
Parsons
Gasol
Asik

Kobe/Parsons/Asik are all good defensively, allows to mask, Nash/Gasol (who isn't too horrible on defense)

Houston

Lin
Harden

Robinson
Howard

High potential PF in Robinson, Defensive C in Howard, Harden... As for SF, it would be delfino for now, but with all of their pending cap space, they can clearly fill that void.

LA dun goofed.

If they do a SnT, that would be a good trade with a 1st rounder from Houston.

He has actually been pretty good, and for what you get at his salary the next couple of years, would be an ideal piece to help cut a little salary and still have a legit starting SF.

How about Kobe for Asik/ Parsons? That way you have depth on the front line.

Not just tonight, but all year. If you watch Metta shoot 3s all night, anybody who can hit it will look like Larry Bird.

Of all the white small forwards that have been slapped with that label (Adam Morrison, Gordon Hayward), Parsons is easily the best of them. I don't see him as a franchise guy, but he has no obvious flaws in his game. Id say hes the best 3 in the league outside of Lebron, KD, Melo, Pierce and Deng.

I don't think he is that high yet, but he reminds me of AK47 with a smoother stroke in his prime.

Yeah I see the Andrei comparison. Hes just got a great all around game and on that contract his trade value has to be through the roof.

Paul George/Rudy Gay/Iguadola>Parsons

Forgot about George you're right, but theres an argument for him over the other two. Shoots almost ten percent higher than Gay and passes better, much better shooter and more efficient than Iggy.

When I made my decision I took into account the economic impact. With Jeremy Lin and Kobe, the Rockets will certainly have full support from China.

Lakers full on rebuild and cut cap room, mull a run at Lebron.

well, it wouldn't be a smart basketball move in the slightest. Even if you think Kobe is still better than Harden, during the tenure of Harden's deal, he will easily be the better player, and you give up your starting C/SF for a position you already have. Makes literally no sense.

Daryl Morey isn't the type of GM to prioritize finance over winning. Even if they got a lot of support from China, how many Chinese citizens are gonna show up to games. They tried that with Yao already

Performance won't really matter when you're selling out all your merchandise and selling out your arena. Part of the reason Kobe is the highest played player in the league is because he's 'box office.' People fill up staples center to watch Kobe play. Everywhere the Lakers go there is a sold out arena. If the Rockets are perennial 7th or 8th seed it would be a success.

Even with Yao/TMac, the Rockets were middle of the pack in attendance. And the Rockets are not going to be a perennial 7-8 seed. Youngest team in the NBA in experience level of roster, with max contract room this summer dude. Houston just isn't the basketball market LA/NY are. Never will be consistently.

The only negative about the deal is Chandler Parsons is an excellent 'bang for you buck' type of player.

Asik's better

Lakers fans get really sensitive and defensive if you mention Dwight leaving the lakers, even in a hypothetical situation.

Dwight is a FA at the end of this season. Why would Houston trade good players for someone they can sign out right.

Agreed on the Rockets having no need to trade for someone they can sign aside to unload Asik

I think trading dwight howard would be a foolish move, he isnt %100 but still a threat in the paint everytime an offensive comes within 10 feet of the basket. dwight should improve his game and get healthy, lakers should trade world peace and steve blake and fillers for a atheletic wing player. someone like arron afflalo would be perfect.

Verbal Christ
03-03-2013, 10:45 PM
if dwight can have his cake and eat it too, he'll try to persuade a sign and trade situation to maximize the value of the contract, i think something like 30 MILL more with the bird rights. signing a FA contract he'll lose out on a bunch of money, but he could dictate where he goes, and my money is on brooklyn. his shoe deal has that clause where dwight gets major $$$ for signing in one of 3 or 4 preferred locations, houston not being one of them.

i think morey has the leverage if the lakers want to open up talks, we dont need to trade anyone. parsons is showing that he can get better fast. he's a legit 3 point threat this year, whereas last he struggled from beyond the arc. exciting young guy, and he's a + guy on defense. im sure if at all possible morey may want to ship off Lin before parsons.

Lin/Asik/Terrance Jones/2nd rounder for Dwight/Steve Blake

Houston could put Dwight at PF if they just signed him, let Robinson grow for a season or 2.

Lin
Harden
Parsons
Dwight
Asik

Damn

if you look at base numbers, yeah looks great

but howard is among the best if not the best and not just blocks but preventing players from even SHOOTING in the paint. NO one in the nba causes other teams to take more midrange shots than dwight howard.

ManRam
03-03-2013, 11:09 PM
Yeah...why would Houston give that up in a S&T? If it comes to that, LAL has no leverage.

Jimmer55
03-03-2013, 11:31 PM
HOUSTON would be DUMB to do this, IMO. Parsons is the real real and a future all-star. Asik is easily a top 10 center and maybe top 5.

Sure, but what if Dwight's agent is looking for a SnT for him to head to Houston, because it will allow his Bird rights to be moved.

Harden

Damn

Dwight/Asik frontcourt would be redundant. Neither can stretch the floor, so they would crowd the lane. But after this season, Asik will be easy to move in a trade.

Yeah you can get a solid PF that can start for a couple of seasons and let Robinson gel off the bench or just go straight to the T-Rob starting project.

yeah but then that means that he WANTS to go to houston. if i'm houston and that's the case, i just offer asik alone.
