Must have most or all of this qualities: Easily recognized on and off the court, very marketable, worth atleast 20 million a season, transcends the game of basketball and a future hall of famer.

I can only name 2. Lebron and Kobe. KD maybe but he is not as recognized, not marketable doesn't transcend basketball.

A few things, pretty sure KD is recognizable..he's been doing more and more commercials, ads, etc.

Worth 20 million a year just from basketball? Or everything included...b/c lebron doesn't make 20 million a year in his current NBA contract

Also, when I think super star I think of on the court performance, not neccessarily off the court

But following your criteria, I'd have to add Blake Griffin and Chris Paul to that list

Lebron, Kobe, Kd, Melo, Dwight. Shannon brown too...girls love him even though he's average. I feel even people that don't watch basketball know these guys. And kyrie is about to be up there too.

Did you read what the OP posted?

He makes 20mil a year.
He is easily recognizable off the court.
He has endorsements.
Has been in a couple of movies (Valentines Day/Just Wright)
He's future Hall of Famer/

I dont think dwight is a future hall of famer, especially if he never wins a ring which is looking like a real possibility right now.

Pretty sure the commercials that Griffin and Paul have been on daily on national tv is enough attention off the court. I'd still not put Griffin as a superstar but Paul for sure.

Ewing/Barkley/Drexler/Miller...

Dwight isn't close to those players. he is mentally weak, and when he doesnt get his way it shows with his lack of effort. Probably the most mentally weak top 15 player in the league.

Sooooo you have to be in a movie to have attention off the court?

Everytime I turn my tv on I see blake griffin in a Kia commercial, followed by Chris/Cliff Paul state farm commercials

I also saw you mentioned Kobe Bryant in you list...according to you he shouldn't be considered because he hasn't been in a movie

So Bosh will be a Hofer, but Howard won't?

Right now, bosh has a much better chance to be a HOF. I know you are incapable of understanding statistics and advanced formulas so this is for the people who can.

Notice how Bosh's name is ahead of Dwights. :)

I feel like Kobe and Lebron are on a different level than the other "superstars". They are in the MJ/Magic tier of Superstardom.

Durant, CP3, Griffin, Wade, and Dwight should all be considered "Superstars" in terms of how recognizable they are and the numbers they put up, but they simply aren't the superstars Kobe and Lebron are.

Kobe is more of a superstar off the court. His on court performance is not superstar level.

Only lebron and KD are both on court and off court superstars imo

Chris Paul

What is your criteria for efficiency? He's having one of his most efficient seasons ever. He's shooting almost .50pct from the field and has been efficient most of the year. His assists, rebs, etc... are all up this year as is his ts% and PER.

What's even funnier about this is that Dwight didn't make the final cut in Valentines Day so he was never technically in that movie.

Also Just Wright was a huge flop in the box office kind of like this Lakers team. Lol

I can guarantee you more people have seen Blake Griffin's TV commercials than Howard's cameo in a film that completely flopped. Lol

The Clippers have the best record in LA still they get no love from the media. Why?

Because LA has two household names Kobe/Dwight, even if we suck we still get more attention than the Clippers.

True. You go to China and ask a kid who their favourite baller is, it's going to be Kobe or Lebron (outside of ethnic Chinese people like Lin or Yao). They would have no freaking idea who Kyrie Irving or Durant is. Sure Americans would know, but not the rest of the world.

Exactly.

Essentially, I ask myself if a middle aged non sports fan woman would know who the player is. My mother would have no clue who Kevin Durant was. But she would absolutely know Lebron or Kobe.

being a Superstar has doesn't necessarily mean x player has to be better than y player...it's a players skill combined with how "box-office" he is...for example Steph Curry and Kyrie Irving are on par as players but Kyrie is much closer to Superstardom than Steph...

smood999
03-01-2013, 12:11 PM
another example...many have Kevin Love as a better player than Blake Griffin...but Griffin is the bigger star..

I dont like your criteria on being a superstar in the NBA. You basically just asked who are the two best players in basketball in my opinion. By your criteria, only Lebron, Kobe, Julius Erving, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Shaq would EVER make the list.

Chris Paul, Kevin Durant, Carmelo Anthony, Dwayne Wade, should be added to the list as well. These guys are highly marketable and have done numerous commercials/advertisements that are outside of the basketball realm. Carmelo is part-time on a reality TV show for example. Chris Paul does insurance commercials.
