Gery Woelfel:

Suns, some NBA officials contend, are top cinders for Smith. Gortat, Dudley and 1st rounder being discussed.

Wonder which 1st it would be. Would be a great trade if it's the Suns pick. We could get a Shabazz type in the draft with a top pick + our 2 other 1st rounders. Next season:

Teague
Shabazz
Dudley
Horford
Gortat

That'd be a solid lineup

If we get a SF, Center, and a 1st for Smith, wow.

What is Phoenix thinking? Do they really want to build around Josh Smith?

If I'm the Hawks I'm jumping all over this one.

A Suns 1st? Mhm.

Gambo and Coro already shot down a Smith deal, im inclined to believe them. Doubt this is real.

It'd obviously be pretty heavily protected. Wouldn't be in the Shabazz zone.

Its already been confirmed locally that Suns aren't going to deal a package like this. Seems like ATL is just trying to drum up interest.

Suns are not expected to participate in any major deals, sources said.

What happen to your Josh Smith love? You must have had 50 trade ideas in our forum for him in the past.

We lost Nash, so what's the point in getting him now?

Because he would have been perfect with Nash.

He is an awful fit with this team going forward.

Josh Smith isn't getting traded for that much.

If we want him so badly, then we can just sign him during the summer. Nice try tho, Atlanta.

Dudley and a 1st is way to much. Maybe Gortat,Wesly johnson, and lakers 1st. We know he wants Max money, we know he doesn't want Atlanta no more. What's the point of trading him.

Every team should offer like 2nd rd picks for him. Atlanta has no leverage. We all know they won't pay him so teams can either trade for him now or just wait 4 months and sign him then.

Unless a playoff team thinks he'll help them now. But more than half the teams interested in him aren't even going to make playoffs.

It's funny how much value a player can lose. Right now Josh Smith's trade value is so much lower than the player he actually is. That said, why would Phoenix give up top assets for him? Unless they want to give him max money I don't know why they'd be interested.

You are just like your front office. Desperate to get something in return before he says bye bye ATL. We can easily get him in the off-season without giving up all of that. Paul Coro, Gambo and even our GM has stated we have no interest in him and that this is all rumors made by ATL out of desperation to raise the offers. I would much rather offer Dudley, Gortat and LA's 1st for Cousins and Evans and then negotiate to where Sacramento feels comfortable.

There aren't too many teams left that J Smith has been rumored to...ATL should keep him and try and trade Horford/Harris/pick to the Lakers for Howard.

LA:

S Nash/D Harris
K Bryant/J Meeks
R Artest/A Jamison
P Gasol (I)/E Clark
A Horford/J Hill (I)

Gives them a competitive team and cap flexibility next season. Howard just isn't working out with Kobe.

Still hope that this is false and Smith gets traded to San Antonio for Spliter, Blair, Cory + 1st

Two things you're missing:

1. Teams over the cap can't just sign him in the offseason. If they want him they have to trade for him. All it takes is one team like that, who're willing to give up something for him, and suddenly the price is a lot higher than a second round pick. Not full value, because of the risk of him walking, but much closer to full value than to just nothing.

2. Even if only teams with cap room wanted him, there's still an incentive to get him now, in that getting him part of the organization and city and showing him how much you want him gives you an advantage when his free agency comes.

If it was a one-on-one negotiation between ATL and PHO then you'd be right about ATL having no leverage, but there's 28 other teams that you're forgetting about.
