The Cavs are expected to offer free agent center Greg Oden a two-year contract with a team option for a third year after the Feb. 21 trade deadline passes, a league source said….

Oden is living nearby in Columbus. His agent, Mike Conley Sr., said last week Oden has been to see the Cavs a couple of times already, but was evasive when pressed as to what capacity.

“Greg has been up there (to Cleveland) before and he’ll probably be up there again in an official capacity,” Conley said Friday.

Oden will jump all over that, he isn't getting a better deal than that.

How much money are we talking about? I mean Varejao is playing amazing.. Don't see why they need Oden.

I still think he's worth the risk for a team like Cleveland. They HAVE to take gambles to win there. This is a good one.

Of course, that all depends on what the dollar figures are.

I mean he can. It's not like he was a bust. He just had injuries. We'll see.

Odens offense was garbage, but if healthy he could really be a defensive post presence, if im thr cavs 2 yr 5 million dollar deal is worth the risk

Has any news been put out about his recovery and condition at this point? I haven't heard anything about the kid for a couple years. I really hope he is healthy because I honestly thought he would be the best center in the league at this time if he hadn't gotten injured.

He's taking the next season off to heal as well.. Not sure if this is a legitimate review though. I don't trust Oden. He's probably going it because he has no other source of income. Once teams find out he can't really recover anymore, he'll be long gone with the amount of money he made.

Same Bowie's early career was marred by injury. When he finally was able to get on the court he was an extremely productive big man. But no one remembers that. They just remember him as the guy picked before MJ.

Isn't Varejao out for the season and a free agent this summer?

I don't know if I go to CLE if I'm him. They haven't been able to keep AV healthy so that should be a concern.

Good risk for Cleveland to take. Even 50% of Oden is better than a majority of back-up bigs in basketball. I could see him being a Brendan Haywood type big in a 15-20 minute role

I still think he can be a near double double player in about 20 mins. They should give him 12-20 mins for now to ease him back in.

This is a great point. Both Bowie and Oden were in similar situations with both the injuries and being drafted before a superstar. I hope Oden can bounce back as well.

He's out for the year but he's not a free agent this summer. He still has another year and a team-option left on his contract.

Most likely the language in the contract will protect any team that will sign him. Probably if he miss certain amount of games due to knee issues, contract void or around those parameters.

Wrong.

Wrong again.

This. Beat me to it, I love it when people talk out of their a$$3s about stuff they know nothing about...by saying he was wrong in his first statement, you meant Varejao isn't playing amazing now because he's out for the year correct? Because he was leading the league in rebounds and having an All-Star year when he went down

I hope he gets another shot. That guy was a monster in colege. To bad injuries got the best of him.

This. SVG right on the money, as per.

I was rooting for the Sixers to gamble on him for the last couple years, until we got Bynum, so I'll be glad if someone does, and who better than Cleveland?

Yeah, that better check and see if they can get that deal insured first....

And Bowie had a little skill (although he put up so-so numbers on a bad team if I remember correctly). I've never watched Oden and thought "skilled"

GREATNESS ONE
