They're equal scorers...and sometimes that aspect of their game isn't always great. But George is a better rebounder, defender, passer, shooter etc. And he does score more efficiently...at least this year he has.

Gay does have a penchant for big shots...but gimme George.

Ask me again in a year. As of this year it's obviously PG since he's having his best year and since Rudy Gay was having his worse year. I think they both have that it factor during crunch time.

I'd have to say, looking at their per36 minute stats, it is pretty clear that Paul George is the better player this season, but I stress THIS SEASON. Who is the better player right now? I think it is clear that George is having a better season. He's getting more boards and assists, and slightly more steals and the blocks and scoring are a wash. George is shooting the 3-ball better, but their TS% isn't too far off from one another and Gay has generally had a higher FG% before this season.

If you compare their careers so far, Gay is the clear cut pick here. But if you are only comparing THIS season, then George is ahead of the game. Gay isn't playing to his max potential this year though.

I think by the time their respective careers are done that George will likely be considered a better all around player so long as he keeps his current numbers up for a few year, but I think they will generally be considered near equals. I like George a lot, but I don't see him getting much better than he is right now. I see him refining his game, maybe improving his percentages, but he's already at a high level, he just isn't a dominant scorer, though he is a good one. He's young, so there is the potential that he is just hitting the tip of the iceberg and may excel even further in a couple seasons. I would love to see that happen, but I think it is more likely that he will maintain his current level of play for a few seasons with his number staying steady unless there is a change of scenery where he ends up playing with a couple other all-stars and his numbers dip a little.

I like both guys a lot though.

This year, George.

There was already a thread about this in the NBA Comparisons forum, where it belongs.

It's far too early to be making this comparison. George requires more seasons under his belt considering as of right now he's having a career season while Gay is having a down year. Both guys need to be compared side-by-side during their absolute best. And with that in mind, give me Gay.

Yup. Although to be fair, like I said, George needs about another 3-4 seasons more to be compared with Gay. Then can we compare the two because as of now we can't considering one of them is having his worst season in 7 seasons while the other is having his best in 3 seasons.

Probably because he is amazing. He's basically in the mold of a superstar. Certainly in the mold better than Gay was in his 3rd year.

not taking anything away from George, who has been nothing short of spectacular, but he's still pretty much inefficient. he shot 8/19 today against a question on and off raptors defense. I would still consider George a chucker.

Gay has been nothing short of spectacular the last few games but he's shot horribly against Boston and Indiana - two very good defensive teams. I think over the course of the season as the main guy, he's shoots >45% like his career average, or probably even better consider he will get the ball early in the clock and less clog in the paint.

very comparable i would say. Gay has been pretty efficient his whole career. I'm sure George will get there soon as well.

I believe Gay is the better player right now but maybe next year. Gay went head to head with George today and he struggle all game long but realistically speaking- George had nothing on Gay in the last quarter and overtime.

Do you consider Chauncey a chucker? Cause he regularly shot in the sub 40's but is one of the most efficient PG's of all time. 8/19 would only look bad if PG didn't make any 3's or got to the line (he made 5 of each).

I have them both on my fantasy team and George has been killing it all year (granger being out and all). Gay was limited in his role in memphis. but ever since he has been a raptor he has been on fire.

He's played 4 games as a Raptor, not counting this game (9/25 :puke: ) he's shooting around 43%, about 6 boards and 2 assists. Meh.

I'd like to think he's mentioning dunking as a novelty skillset, in any event just cause he lists off irrelevant aspects doesn't mean that it matters in the grand scheme (which my question was about :) )
