Jordan won it, Kobe won it, so all that's left for lebron is to win it, and he'll join those two.

Greatly enhance? Are you serious? Its a dunk contest... its a show for the fans. Does winning 3 All Star Game MVPs make Kobe's Legacy greater? Hell no. It doesnt relate to anything but entertainment, let alone his legacy.

Yes, I don't see how HOF voters could consider someone that has never won or at least participated in one.

Yeah.

Probably knocks him from first ballot to maybe having to wait a few years.

I'll be telling my kids some day about how "LeBron was really, really, really good...BUT he never won a dunk contest", and they'll hold that grudge against him forever.

Same here. You beat me to the post. I had no clue he won it. I just saw it was in 97.

It would be cool to see Lebron in a dunk contest, but I don't think it would enhance his legacy.

Dwight has no legacy

Jordan won it, Kobe won it, so all that's left for lebron is to win it, and he'll join those two.

And Nate Robinson won it 3 times? He'll join Nate too. So many greats to join.

BTW, does dunk contest make anyone less of a ballhogger? That would affect someone's legacy tremendously though.

Nate Robinson's legacy>Lebron's

Isaiah Rider is both an NBA champion AND a Slam Dunk champion. Not many people can say that. Dude is mad underrated.

Harold Minor?! Those two Dunk Championships probably are vaulting him into the HOF.

Is this question for real? Who cares about the dunk contest, it means nothing.

kobe and jordan both open doors with their left hand, lebron needs to do that and he'll join the greats.

In my opinion, winning the 3 point shooting contest is a bigger notch on your belt.
Fancy dunking isn't as practical as good shooting in a game.

In my opinion, there is not a single way anyone can impact their legacy during All Star weekend. Not anything at all.

wade won back to back skills contests, who cares right?

the only thing out of that weekend that matters is being an all star selection

100%. If he does win it he becomes the goat. If he doesn't win one he struggles to get into the hof.

Hahahahahahaha no. Does it mean I wouldn't like to see it? No. Does Lebron care about that? HELL to the NO. Nor should he, if he decides he wants to, he will do it, if he doesn't, he owes it to no one.

This.

The dunk contest has evolved into a joke since Kobe and MJ won. The guys who win it or are in it are often journeymen now.

I do think in 20 years when people are looking back on the game, and seeing the best dunkers of every era including some of the biggest names in history all having memorable dunk contest moments they are gonna ask 'why didn't LeBron do it?'.......when they look up their answer, there gonna be left with 'he didn't want to'. I do think that will taint his legacy to new fans trying to study the history of the game 15-20 years from now. Not going to make anyone think less of him as a player but it might as a competitor and person. Also as a guy who recognizes the fact that his job is to entertain fans and those fans are the sole reason he is a mega millionaire superstar.

Well would his legacy take a bit of a hit if he lost a dunk contest?

Yes, which is why, amongst other things, LeBron will never be remembered as the same type of fierce competitor of the MJ's, Bird's, Magic's, Kobe's. A guy who went ring chasing before even entering his true prime is the main reason but things like refusing to heed to the fans wish to see the best dunker in the game in the dunk contest only add to it.

Dunk contest is the sign of competitiveness? Since when? Who is he gonna compete against? Jamario Moon? Nate Robinson? Bunch of nobodies? WoW! I am not sure whether you are an idiot or just mad because LeBron didn't go make the knicks relevant

Ring chasing? More like building a dynasty.

Lol... the dunk contest is a joke now but you're going too far back. I'd say after Jrich won it a few times the dunk contest started going down.. Early 2000s were still entertaining.
